By the way - I have it on pretty good authority that it is only the female mosquito that sucks blood and spreads disease.
If only Adam could have had a little more instruction before that disaster of a first marriage...

Do you know, he could have been president - if only he could have carried his own home state...

He needed something to carry disease, such as malaria, thereby to thin the species down to the finest few.
Later, those few became the governing body - who, mysteriously, absolutely hate the idea of innoculation, education, and medical science.
hi guys,.
i have posted earlier today about the witness translation of the bible.
i am trying to learn about the jw way of life from the perspective of an interested outsider.
Joe,
It must be obvious by now that most everybody around here thinks a lot of you, and we are impressed by your devotion and sincerety. It is always a good thing to see somebody come on board with your kind of intellect and attitude.
I have only one word of advice: be careful!!!
After all, black holes are a great deal of fun to observe (from a distance), until you fly the starship a little too close -

jehovahs (hidden) message revealed

Here is a quote from back in this thread by drew_sagan: Thanks for the article Randy. I've been convinced ever since I started pioneering that the work JWs do has nothing to do with reallly getting the message out to the masses. Instead they prefer personal conversion of a few individuals year by year. It's eaiser to keep controll that way.
They would rather have 10 fully indoctrinated and submissive followers as opposed to 100 people baptized only in the name of Jesus.
I've never even seen a Kingdom Hall that has a sign with a reader board saying what the public talk is going to be. Has anyone ever seen this? _____ The emphasis was mine - my point was this: What is about the easiest modern way to get a whole boatload of fundies into a church? Just build a super-monster like the Chrystal Cathedral and get a charismatic guy to put on the song and dance (sometimes literally) strong as possible? Run free day-care (so long as they tithe right), do a party night every so often, etc. This has been repeated at least a dozen times here in Dallas in last couple of decades - it gets young marrieds and even teens out like crazy... The conjecture drew_ makes is true: This kind of rapid expansion is anathema to JWdom - they cannot indoctrinate such incoming masses near fast enough in their system...that kind of new conversion rate would be rat poison to the WT with all these new internet wise yuppies starting to ask questions... Drew (and you others) are right - they don't really care about the message for purpose of U.S. expansion...it is much more for control of the existing economic base. I thought this up when I was cruising #401 to bring up the battery this weekend and saw a N. Dallas superchurch where they had more people for memorial day (and most other Sundays too) than the WTS has for District Assembly - complete with off-duty cops to direct the traffic. James
what are some false stereotypes and myths, recent or past, in your society?
things that are widely believed to be true but are in fact erroneous.
If you mean "the Watchtower Society" myths - (i.e. not "my" society - ) then how about this one from about 1979 or 1980?
When they were trying to convert to computer typesetting and offset printing process, they had to spend a literal fortune or two with IBM.
They actually put out the myth that IBM came back and gave them a super-special deal on the typesetting software & computers because "IBM needed the society as a test customer as they were the most advanced publishing company on the face of the earth..."
This was of course taken to mean that Jehovah had nudged the smug IBM corporation there in Armonk, NY to move to help the work - another modern-day miracle to be pondered in our hearts forever.
Similar miracles occured on special price and delivery on the M.A.N. rotary presses which are now sitting idle while the few bethelites left are cutting CD's...but then, what one person calls a miracle, another more cynical one might call just plain "good salesmanship".
I got this direct from a C.O. talk back then - he was the celebrated C.O. Bennett (the one who told me that oil came from the brontosaurus)...

i have stolen some text, quoted below, from the national geographic website, http://www.nationalgeographic.com/lostgospel/timeline.html.
i read their article about the supposed gospel of judas and found it interesting.
i offer no comment on the validity of their article, nor seek one.
Wonderful way to open a first post!
A few points on it from my perspective:
* JW's got their own organization started on the basis of other "worldly" translations of the bible. The NWT did not come along until late in the 1950's - by that time almost every core doctrine had been made up and confirmed by the Rutherford-Knorr hegemony. This all took place from 1880 or so up to the late 1930's. The blood thing came along in I believe the 1950's.
* AFTER the NWT came along many "glaring errors" in these other translations were found by JW translators. After all, they were done by false religion, no?
* And, yet, (and amazing in the face of the above two facts) - the selected list of books from the apostate council of 325 (sponsored by a half-pagan worldly government leader) are still considered to be Jehovah's true choice by the WT society. This is just the way it is - even if there were perhaps hundreds of other writings for Athanasius to pick from.
* And, finally - it is even more incredulous to notice that the Witnesses actually champion Arius (the gnostic view?) and put down Athanasius as an evil "trinitarian". Still, his list is the true one.
So, I guess they are not in the market for a copy of the book of Judas!
Welcome to the site, James
there have been plenty of threads where ye list words that witnesses love to use all the time.
oh god.
lets start whith a few that i know they dont like and identify if a person is apostate or not.

Wet mop on aisle three.....
just a few years ago, i knew of a somewhat prominent elder that was giving talks at the dc and during the times of the convention that he wasn't doing something "official", he was drinking nips of booze that he would keep hidden in his pockets.
as time went on, he would walk around the convention site to other parts of the city where he would drink alcohol and watch topless girls do their thing.
then he would return late during the sessions and look like he was just coming back from doing some official spiritual business.
One thing you could do (at least for District Conventions) would be to talk it up how you were going someplace really bizarre and remote. It is also required to be a scenic trip on good sports car roads - say, British Columbia if you lived in Dallas.
Then, take a really nice 1 or 2 week road trip; show up at the assembly where nobody knows you off Adam, shoot a few scenes on the old Polaroid, and hit those mountain highways again on the way back - pick a different and yet interesting route from the way up.
This works especially well if you should happen to have a pretty, fast, imported little Non-theocratic car.
This does not work, of course, for Circuit Assemblies.
Or, so I have heard...
our history is not what we have been taught.
the golden dawn history.
we see that russell was involved with freemasonry and used freemasonry symbols on his earlier magazines.
Is there such a thing as a website like the JWD except for ex-and-fading Masons where people who have an abiding interest in Masonic Criticism could go? Betcha the masons would be absolutely horrified to know if the JWs were tied to them, too!
Seems like since hardly any of us here could care less about FreeMasonry today - these threads are getting lost on us. And for use in reasoning with the JW trolls or actives, how are they going to read through and reason on this kind of stuff?
They can't even get the UN connection. In short, I agree with LittleToe; I don't want to read any more conspiricy from Russel's day -
But I will listen to solid and consice proof if they still have ties today; just as with the NGO thing.
And IMHO - it works for me better if I can see it all in one or two scrolled panes - not 50 or so.
