  Noah's Ark - Close to being found? What effects would it have?

  personally, it makes no difference to me if the ark is found or not.

  if it truly exists, then it would be one of the largest finds of the millenium.

  Excellent point about the iceman mummy. Did it suddenly convice the society that people lived in Europe prior to their date for the flood? And his body could hardly have survived with all the tools, charms, and arrowpoints if the flood had washed over him later.

  This Oetzi is a fossil of reality. They choose to not believe it.

  Ark is a "fossil" of failed expeditions and tabloid legend. They choose to believe it completely.

  Maybe we should also ask "what would happen if they revealed the UFO in area 51"?

  I think most people would find a way to agree or deny based on their prejudices. Just like the WTS and Oetzi.

  We could radio-carbon date it and see if it matched the society or Usher's date: 2349 BC.???

  Wait, the JWs would never accept a radio-carbon date. Well, they could measure it and make sure it was rectangular.

  If it were boat-shaped it would have to be a trick of Babylon the Great.

  You know, if I had been Noah - I think I would have recycled the thing for building materials. Seems like a lot of work went down to just abandon it.

  Of course, word has it that he got pretty drunk post-flood.

  Was Jesus sacrifice really a sacrifice?

  i would like to state firstly that i in no way intend to offend anyone.. its just when i was in the org i had major problems with the blood issue/death because of persecution.

  many times we were taught that god does`nt ask us to do anything that he has`nt done himself.

  now imagine everything the bible says about jesus really did happen.

  Jambon1, you are so right about this subject having the power to pizz a lot of people off. But there is a great logical point to be made here if you look at things in an open-minded way.

  I never got this either - not only was he going to come right back to life again, but why in the world was this necessary in the first place? It wasn't Jesus fault that Adam did what he did. I personally have never had a satisfiying explanation as to why murdering a god-prophet somehow washed away the sins of mankind. Couldn't we have just believed in his message without the blood rite? If proving resurrrection was the point, didn't the Lazarus story pretty much do that in a more direct manner?

  Further, didn't God always condemn human sacrifice? Burning your children before Molech? Well, OK - he did kind of suggest a faith test human sacrifice, but stopped it before anything happened and provided an animal. Also, I don't know of anything in Jewish or OT thought that even suggested a ritual human sacrifice in this manner. I.E.: Animal sacrifice by priesthood = good worship. Human child sacrifice by priesthood = pagan false worship = murder. Passover = good worshiper sons spared, bad worshiper sons killed.

  No disrepect, just don't get some aspects of this.

  i'd keep on living the way i'm living right now.. i'd say, take me or leave me behind.

  Why not turn this upside down for a moment?

  What do you think a bonafide JW would do if NASA announced that a rogue asteroid was headed for earth within the next 7 months?

  I will bet you that the WTS would first deny evidence from telescope or radar because it was NOT THEIR IDEA. I further submit that finally they would take it as a sign of Armageddon coming just before the rock hits.

  Certainly you would not see them volunteering for Civil Defense, or contribute to any effort to shunt the thing off into space, etc.

  But you can bet that a lot of them would still be scared of it, faith in Jehovah or no.

  Well of course they do, and it is about as far out as the Heaven's Gate starship hiding behind the Hale Bopp comet.

  Example? All human history is encompassed in around 6000 years. All CREATION (meaning all history of life on the planet, cosmology, and geology) are about 48000 years or so. Also the sun and all the stars are in that time frame.

  Neanderthal man is a hoax. All man spoke the same language before Babylon built the tower. There was a huge undefinable water canopy over all earth before the flood, and it protected everybody from harmful radiation. That is why people could literally live 900 years or more.

  Then it fell in the flood and covered up all mountains; including K2 and Everest. Somehow it then just drained away and left dry land.

  Jesus Christ came back in 1874. No, he really came back in 1914. No, he really DID - you just can't see it because he came back invisibly (and apparantly has done nothing for us since except build up the WTS).

  and so on, ad absurdum...

  well, i've decided to try my hand at a different type of writing.

  my atheist's book of bible stories is nearly complete, so i thought i would write the epic masterpiece history of my family, from the time that they came to canada until today.

  i am calling the book "east of edenwold" (which is a small town in saskatchewan).

  It just so happens that I attended that very assembly in Vancouver summer 1969!

  Do you remember all the hoopla over looking around to see delegates from far-away lands "in their bright native costumes"?

  Sort of like in the 1930's when they were looking around for Daniel or Jeremiah...

  i was puzzled by the numerous references to this as we don't have this product in the uk , but realise (after googling) that it refers to the jonestown massacre.

  the implication presumably being that jws are so dumb , they will do anything that those in authority ask them to do.

  (shame this doesn't apply when i am looking for volunteers to stand in for the tms.

  I believe that I remember Time or Newsweek making the comment that Jones had his lost sheep drink sort of a pseudo-death ritual fairly often to brainwash them into being ready for the big moment. The theory was that they didn't know if there was poison in the coolaid (sic) or not, (in these rituals) but they showed loyalty by drinking it anyway. If true, it could mean that he was always a suicidal loony who was looking to kill all these people all along. Also it would mean that these poor people had lost all sense of reality a long time previously.

  There were a lot of the JWs taken aback by this news. More than a few had a sort of epiphany on cult behavious. I know for a fact because I was an elder and several of them came to me to talk about it.

  now i had a father that was at the forefront of the society's activites, and i know about some of the "perks" that come with that.

  I feel the same way Nina. Indeed, congratulations to them. I hope Ben may be reading this. Maybe you don't know me too well from this site but I have actually met both father and son way back when in elder school and liked them both. Perhaps we are missing the point, though. Are you saying it was OK for Albert and wife to have an education and a Bethel provided car and a private apartment and also have a kid? And it was OK for said kid to go marry into money and quit bethel to go get a law degree himself? What about the regular bethel guys?

  I say all of the above actions are completely OK. My own stepdaughter just got her law degree and passed the bar in southern California. My problem with all of this is that the WT Society says these things are <NOT OK> and they deny them to the rank and file.

  Kind of a "fairness thing". Care to comment?
