What is more unbelievable is the fact that this CO is supposedly asking these questions... it's only a matter of time before he is dismissed from his position. Unless of course, I am reading it wrong. I understand the entire paragraph to be what the CO is saying, yes?

CO Comments
by dothemath inthe circuit overseer in a neighboring circuit has been telling audiences in his visits to the congregations the following:.
the governing body feels that the massacre in rwanda happened because satan wanted to get at the witnesses in that country.. i agree that satanic influence could have been behind it..........but do you think the thousands of casualties were caused solely to affect the small minority of witnesses there?.
i suppose it's the same logic that ww1 + ww2 happened to get at the remnant of the 144,000. any comments on this?.

Should Jehovers Witnesses use Heinz 57 products?
by Elsewhere inthe other night i was listening to npr on the radio while driving home and i heard a very interesting piece of information... the "57" in the heinz 57 brand came from occult sources!
the container says "heinz 57 varieties" but the number was never meant to literally mean they had 57 varieties of products, instead the numbers 5 and 7 have occult meaning.. i looked around on the internet and found these articles:.

Heinz 57 is still the best ketchup, occult or not. However, this sounds like one of those obscure references that the sunday public speaker brings out... "Satan has completely permeated society!! Movies, video games, books, all feature the OCCULT... even ketchup bottles!" *gasps from the old-sister-row.*

WHY did you exit god and the bible when you exited the dubs?
by gumby innot all that post here threw the bible and the bible god out the window when they exited the dubs, but many have.. for me personally, i never doubted god or the bibles authenticity untill years later when i began doing a re-search on the bible canon and how it was formed.
from there, i began looking at the sceptics view of the bible and it's god which then changed my views.. i guess my question is, why did you ( those who disbelieved god/bible upon exiting the dubs)... throw god and the bible out the window before you had re-searched it enough to make you believe contrary?
if all you really knew was that the wtbts was bunk, what made you feel the bible and it's god was bunk too?.

My faith in the Bible has drastically dropped since my faith in the WTS went out the window. THe reason is that everything I have been taught theologically was from the WTS. I do not know the Bible apart from them and their interpretation. The New World Translation was the first thing I began to read and hear as a child. Part of why I lost faith in the WTS is because of the inconsistencies and contradictions found in the Bible, especially between the Old and New Testaments, and also problems I couldn't settle in each. I apreciate Jesus message, but doubt that if he really did everything the Bible says he did, that he would want or need some type of man-made organization to misrepresent him, which seems inevitable. I don't think the 1st Century Christians had it all right, either... it sounds like a lot of them were quacks like what we have today - true zealots. The Apostle Paul was so blatantly egotistic it put me off even when I had full JW faith. The more I consider the Hebrew scriptures, the more it just seems like a tribe trying to see God's hand in everything they did by re-telling history and applying moral conclusions.
A lot of it is because I am just put off by anything having to do with what I was taught for so many years. When I hear some scripture, I think of the ORG. over my head, announcing some decree about how I should live my life. -

The Preaching Work

"Isn't there a mathematical conundrum to the preaching work? The JW's are 6 million trying to preach to 6 billion, a fair whack of whom are having babies. Is there any way that a group could conceivably call such a work "complete", when there will always be more people coming of age in a given day than there are people preaching in a given day?
If you could stop them all and run around and preach to them, ok. But since you can't, I don't think it's possible. With God all things are possible, of course, but he's agreed not to make a show in this effort, true?"
.
Dave, this cannot be explained whatsoever by JW's. In response to this, they will stammer or respond with guffaws and general rhetoric about how we should be "doing it anyway" or some such nonsense -

Did you drink to get over being a Witness?
by free2beme inwhen i first left the witnesses, i had some times of being really pissed at all the wasted time and the way the people acted.
i remember one time, my spouse and i decided to just get ripped.
we did and as we did, we laughed and even cried at times over the issues.

Many of my old jw friends were/are heavy drinkers. I spent a few years drinking with them, although not "heavily" as they were, until my conscience finally caught up with me. I never liked it because it was just a way to put off your problems indefinetely and they were just throwing their lives away in the process.
Now that I am stepping out of the 'truth,' I am actually drinking less. Sometimes I have a nice micro-brew or a bit of scotch but all I need is one or two drinks to make me feel a nice buzz. This is about 2 times a week. I do have alcoholism in my family, and I have gotten drunk many times (while a serious jw of course) but not any more - it's just not rewarding in the least.
I agree about the above: it is a vice generally tolerated within the organization, although it often renders husbands life-wasters for their wives, and fosters a sense of hopelessness. -

Now I see why the missionary life has such a high attrition rate. All those missionaries you see in Gilead twice a year are replacements. The missionary life must SUUUUUCK. Not only do you have all the regimentation of Bethel life, but you have 150 fucking hours to report (may have changed since the 70's) every goddamn month. I especially apreciated the part about how if they get df'd for any reason the Society "will have nothing to do with them" and they must find their own way home.

So that we DON'T spread lies: How Many Downsizing?
by AuldSoul inspeculations have been all over the board on this issue, i have seen as little as 400 and as much as 15,000 put forth as the expected number of cuts.
all of these can't be right.. does anyone know how many?.
and if not, can we please stop posting with a number if the number isn't known?.
-
daniel-p
From my source at Bethel the immediate number of those leaving will probably be around a hundred. Of course, with the implications and nature of the down-sizing it stands to reason that this number will climb throughout this year. Remember, they are also taking advantage of the inherent attrition rate (i.e. not replacing those that leave unless they are general laborers)
