Roger Zelazny on Guilt
by COMF ini'm visiting my son and his wife for a week while on vacation.
for the past few evenings, after we retire to our various sleeping quarters, i've been reading an old copy of analog magazine which i found on his extensive bookshelf (their library fills two walls from floor to ceiling).
analog is, or was, anyway (this issue is dated november 1975) a science fiction/science fact magazine and served mainly to provide genre afficionados the latest offerings from both sci-fi luminaries and young up-and-comers.

The WWII Vets and Me
by COMF inon the way from seatac airport to my son's hometown, we decided to stop for dinner at a golden corral restaurant in maryville.
the place was packed and had a waiting line, and it turned out they were providing free meals to all veterans or currently active military.
there were quite a number of guys wearing their vfw hats or similar identification, and many more who were not, but were easily identified by age as probable wwii vets.. we sat among them and ate happily, and i took time to study the crowd.

Meet Me in WA This Week?
by COMF ini'm flying into seattle for a week-long visit with my son in bellingham.
my older son, a staunchly loyal jw, is coming with me for our semi-annual father-and-sons reunion.. i'd love to be able to meet any of you who live in the general area, although i don't know for certain that it could be arranged.
my jw son does not shun me or his brother, even though i'm disassociated and the brother disfellowshipped.

Watchtower Article Titles We'll Never See
by COMF ini saw redhorsewoman's thread title, "the time is at hand", and knew why she picked it: because the society uses that phrase all the time (or used to when i was in, anyway... i'm betting they still do).
it reminded me of a district assembly part from along about 1983 called "now is the time" (can any of you brighter types guess which song they chose to accompany it?).
this got me to thinking of how the society has these pet phrases they use over and over again, often featuring them in some thinly reworked format (like going from "now is the time" to "the time is at hand") as article titles.

That Group Never Existed!

2. thus, i went back using the forum 'guest' default (because i thought that was what he meant).
after some time, uncle bruce started referring to me was lwf, lifesbeersfree, etc., etc., and he and others assumed i had a 'church'... or 'group' that called ourselves "lifeswaterfree", because we all issued the same invitation.. shelby said, on h2o:.

Look Yourself in the Eye and Say That
by COMF ina quick slip-of-the-tongue story from our weekly departmental meeting at work.
talking about requesting down time on the production servers in order to make changes to our live websites, he said:.
"they will examine your information minutely, and if you don't have everything documented, if you can't explain why each step is needed, they will eat you alive.
