7 years ago i started on a path i had long ago given up on as impossible.

i met with my elders and told them i could not justify carrying on as a jw.

i went and got my high school qualifications and my higher education diploma (a levels with distinction) in just 12 months.

hello everyone it's nice to finally be able to post i had trouble getting emails last month and was never able to sign up.

this has been a very informative site which has really helped me grow and to think for myself.

please allow me to introduce myself.. i was born into a witness family and was baptized at a young age an was part of a small kingdom hall.

They may try and use Exodus 1:6 but actually the Bible doesn't help them. Genesis 50:22-26 says (emphasis mine):

22 And Joseph continued to dwell in Egypt, he and the household of his father, and Joseph lived for 110 years. 23 Joseph saw the third generation of E′phra·im’s sons, also the sons of Ma′chir, Ma·nas′seh’s son. They were born upon Joseph’s knees. 24 At length Joseph said to his brothers: “I am dying, but God will without fail turn his attention to you, and he will certainly bring you up out of this land to the land about which he swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.” 25 So Joseph made the sons of Israel swear, saying: “God will without fail turn his attention to you. You must take my bones up out of here.”26 And Joseph died at the age of 110, and they had him embalmed, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.

So what do we see?

a) Joseph was still alive when people were living for much longer (the dwelling for 70-80 years hadn't kicked in apparantly) so the WT are making a comparison to a time when people lived longer.

b) Joseph saw the third generation of his son, Ephraim, son's. So that's actually 4 generations that overlap across a 110 year period. Not 1 generation made up two overlapping groups over 100 years...

a new view of truth never can contradict a former truth.

I simply couldn't believe it was true. So I looked it up on the wtarchive site, and there it was:

Hi DoT,

I was a JW for 25 years. Aux Pioneered, MS, and went to Bethel. And now I've left. Why? I summed it up in one line to a close JW friend who was argung on the basis of "well where else do we go?". That line was this:

"It doesn't matter how 'right' they are, what matters is where they are wrong."

Look at it like this. You go door to door. You meet someone from Christendom. It could be argued they're in a better position than someone who is a Muslim, or Hindu, or a Buddhist. They use the Bible. They worship God. They believe in salvation through Christs death. And so on. Great! But then they have false teachings. Trinity. Hellfire. Immortal soul. So going back to you on the doorstep, you gently point out where they are wrong. After a while they get defensive.

"It doesn't matter that some points might be wrong. What matters is my relationship with Jesus Christ!"

And you reply...

"Yes it does matter. The Bible says we must worship in spirit and...truth. It also says that a little leaven ferments the whole lump. So can we have false teachings and still worship in an acceptable way to God?"

Do you get the point? What matters is where they (JW's) have been wrong before...

Multiple unfulfilled dates: 1874, 1878, 1914, 1918, 1925, 1975.

Multiple false statements, 'young people not fulfilling a career', 'the generation of 1914 will not pass away', 'preaching work to be fulfilled in the 20th century and so on.

And where they're still wrong to this day:

607BCE, the wrong location for the Great Crowd, Jesus not being our mediator and so on.

It is shattering to realise that this isn't the Truth. It really is. And most here haven't found anything to replace it with. But I also think most here would say it's better to live in reality than in a fantasy.

Funny thing about 'new light', I can't find any examples in the Bible!

You know, like how it works in the WT. Where something is preached as Truth, then changed, and changed, and changed, and changed...

Like the understanding of the generation of Matt 24:34. There's been SIX understandings, two times the same understanding, and our old fav:

Eveyone HAD to believe that in the Truth. If I said it was two overlapping groups I would have been disfellowshipped.

Why would God work like that?

Where does he make people believe in false teachings in the Bible?
