Regrets for knowing the TATT? Strange feeling overcoming...
by BluePill2 intoday is a strange day.. i have been out of the borg for a while now.
some years have passed and i thoroughly enjoy the freedom, not having to bend my mind and rape my soul to force myself to do and say things that i don't feel or believe.
i started my own business, got a wonderful girlfriend and made some friends (that are not monsters like the wt$ likes to portray others).. my parents, siblings, brothers-in-law, cousins, aunts, uncles, ex-wife, "friends" and my daughter, have cut their contact to me.

I wonder if they'll get all modern and release a version of this new translation as an App.
It makes sense. If they can release a version that will be written in simpler english that can be downloaded from an App store, which people could be encouraged to download, then that could save them a heap of cash.
But as other have said, I await all the comments (like from my mother) that this shows how close the end is, etc. etc.

my first post and some questions
by wallievase inthis is my first post after deciding to finally open an account here after months of 'lurking'.. a couple of issues i want to address-.
i have issues with people who go from being a witness to losing all faith in god or the bible which seems to be the case with some members of this site.
i just don't think you can let any religion change how you view god or the bible.. second-i don't feel the gb are bad people, i think most witnesses including them are misguided by something that has been drilled into their heads since they were little and are actually sincere people.

Second-I don't feel the GB are bad people, I think most witnesses including them are misguided by something that has been drilled into their heads since they were little and are actually sincere people.
I understand your point of view I really do. As others have said they are captives of a concept. I certainly can't say for sure whether the current GB know the truth about some of their teachings, but in the 60s and 70s the reality of 607BCE and the destruction of Jerusalem was making VERY clear to then GB. 607BCE is of course critical as it underpins so many of JW's beliefs. When the kingdom begins to rule, Satans expulsion from heaven, the last days beginning, the resurrection of the apostles, the appointment of the F&DS...
They had an opportunity to deal with a difficult problem. That they had been, for decades, preaching and teaching something as true but was actually false. Did they grasp the nettle? No.
That's why I can't believe this is Gods organization. They know what they teach is as fact is false. They may well justify in their hearts by saying evidence might come to light later on, but that's false reasoning as 539BCE comes from the same evidence as 586/7BCE. So as Deut 18:21 says...
And in case you should say in your heart: “How shall we know the word that Jehovah has not spoken?” 22 when the prophet speaks in the name of Jehovah and the word does not occur or come true, that is the word that Jehovah did not speak. With presumptuousness the prophet spoke it. You must not get frightened at him.’

I've looked at the site Gopher listed.
In 1976 there was a talk end with elders discussing how shepherding can be preaching work...(surely not!)
And in 1979 there was this talk: http://www.centralprint.net/jwtalks/DC/1979%20Drama%20-%20The%20Need%20of%20the%20Fatherless%20Boy%20-%20Can%20You%20Help%20Him.mp3
It's focuses on compassion and being understanding. And doesn't bang on about the ministry. (But the wobbly music and hissy soundtrack don't help either).
Although the theme of taking interest in the fatherless boy may have given some other ideas...
But couldn't find one with like the one gbrn's aunty said.
Neither sound much like the modern day 'DO MORE' dramas. More compassion. The Ray Franz influence?

When did the Last Days start in the first century
by wizzstick ini've been reading coc and rf highlights that luke 21:28 says: "but as these things start to occur, raise yourselves erect and lift your heads up, because your deliverance is getting near.".
i'm thinking on how no one who saw the start of these things is alive from 1914. as a comparison point, does anyone know when the wt suggests the last days started in the first century?.
was it when jesus said the above?.

Or in 66BCE?
Or don't they speculate as such?

One of the most interesting things I've discovered of late is how the House of Egibi records confirm the reign of the Babylonian Kings.
Thus helping again to shoot down 607.
Oddly, and I can't think why this is, the 2011 WT made no mention of these incredibly important line of evidence.
Scholar - what are your thoughts on the House of Egibi and why this was left out of the 2011 WT?

Relevant JW bits are from:
1:38 - 2:15 and
3:03 - 07:28
It's from a 2007 BBC documentary called: Apocalypse Now And Then. But the clips are from a 1969 episode of a show called Braden's Week:
http://ftvdb.bfi.org.uk/sift/title/70677
Really fascinating to see that in 1969 the year 1975 was being so openly talked about by the BBC. Not that the JW's ever predicted armageddon in 1975 of course. No never.
*cough*
Be great to get a copy of Until Armageddon...

Have The Witnesses Changed All That Much In The Last Few Years?
by minimus inwhen i was in it, especially as a young person, it was rules oriented but not like it is now.
to me, the religion is a lot more fanatical than ever before....what do you think?
is it the same religion even as it was 20 years ago?.

Last Sundays WT perfectly sums up the JW's today.
It's not about 'deep' scriptural discussion.
It's no longer about prophetic understanding around kings of the north and south, or wheels within wheels, or revelations to John.
It's about obedience to the organisation. Sundays WT made the structure clear and the message was go to meetings, go on the ministry, confess your sins to elders and get their help. Was their any mention of apologising to God through Jesus for your sins? No. Bit by bit Jesus is being removed:
It is good for us to consider the work that is involved in making sure that we receive this regular flow of healthy spiritual provisions. The Writing Committee of the Governing Body oversees the process of researching, writing, proofreading, illustrating, and translating our printed publications as well as material posted on our Web site.
Really? As Jesus was king I would have thought that he oversaw such matters...
GB 2.0 are replacing Jesus more and more.

BluePill2 - you've got a PM.
Not sure if I've had any weird experiences. One I remember was working with a stand in CO who was black and we were in a white neighborhood of a town which (at that time) had almost no people of colour in. The stares he got were clearly very unsettling for him.
I did have a great call who was always suggesting having a drink. I took him up on an offer of russian vodka and had a very giggly few hours. Ended up in a shop buying hi-fi speakers I didn't need! Still, all time on the sheet...
