I'm happy for you. It sounds like your sister has decided to be an individual, and to accept you as such also. If only we could all have the same experience.

hello to all i am new here, well as a member anyway, i have been browsing the posts now and then for a good 4 years!
thought id thank you all for your help since i left, i think that there are so many of us that you have all helped and never hear from.. all of my family are still in the org and i could not have gotten through the initial couple of years of leaving without the support that i have found here, even if it did not involve direct communication with you all.. thank you!

Elders are Judges
by stillajwexelder inwhen i quoted from it after my dad said elders aren't judges, my dad said, "where did you get that book?
from another post .
when a fellow elder once said on a body of elders meeting - the co shot him down in flames.

That's my biggest argument when I talk to my family about disfellowshipping. How can we say elders are imperfect and not blame them when they screw up, and at the same time allow them to judge people, sentencing them to death in effect? We are told all the time that only Jehovah can read the heart, and then we watch as elders sit in a closed session and decide the fate of people's lives. They are given so much lee-way that the regular jw is not even allowed to know the slightest detail of a judicial committee meeting.

Gary, thanks for the laugh. I would love to go back to a meeting and attempt to be the last one to leave. I bet I could keep a couple of elders there all night trying to out-wait me!!!

unconditional love
by John Doe ini'm rather sick of hearing the term "unconditional love.
" there is no such thing.
love must be earned--it is not something given with no strings attached.

I agree with Gary - the action required in the case of a baby is on the part of the lov-er, not the lov-ee. The baby deserves love because of it's very being. It does nothing to earn love except the most important thing of all: it exists.
Along the same lines, I agree with JoJo - just like pizza and beer, sometimes people do absolutely nothing for us in return, but we love them anyway.

awesome!! I just picked up my guitar after I posted and started playing it. I have been in a hellacious funk too, but I just realized (thanks to Heathen) that AC/DC is a pretty good pick me up. Have fun.

Hey UBM's - good things about being in a commited relationship with a JW??
by Why Georgia inin the spirit of jgnat's poll's.... let's name some good things about being in a commited relationship/marriage with a jw who actually follows wts doctrines.
i know there will probably be a lot of sarcastic responses.
i'll start.. because of my husbands faith and actual belief in the way he was raised - i know he won't cheat on me or be out in the bars.

Um, I can't think of a whole lot besides the free time on tuesday and thursday night. All the things I like about my wife are personal characteristics of hers. I don't think they would be any different if she wasn't a jw. The only difference would be that I wouldn't get hassled so much by everyone at the hall because we could avoid the witnesses together.

Heathen - not only AC/DC, but a lot of Johnny Cash, Elvis, Neil Diamond, etc! Of course, if you don't like rockabilly or oldies, you might want to discover power chords, then you can play almost any alternative song.
I like www.olga.net for tabs. If you have particular artists you are interested in, you can do a google search and almost always find a fanatical fan that has posted tabs. Also, the monthly Guitar magazine always has several tabs for popular songs. I learned a lot by studying free tabs and listening to the songs at the same time.
