Also, good point, AuldSoul. We wouldn't want to crash the site and do the WT's work for them. But I do think it's good if as many people as possible have copies of the site.

Here's one that has been on my mind lately.
Matthew 15:3-9:

In reply he said to them: "Why is it YOU also overstep the commandment of God because of YOUR tradition? 4 For example, God said, ‘Honor your father and your mother’; and, ‘Let him that reviles father or mother end up in death.’ 5 But YOU say, ‘Whoever says to his father or mother: "Whatever I have by which you might get benefit from me is a gift dedicated to God," 6 he must not honor his father at all.’ And so YOU have made the word of God invalid because of YOUR tradition. 7 YOU hypocrites, Isaiah aptly prophesied about YOU, when he said, 8 ‘This people honors me with their lips, yet their heart is far removed from me. 9 It is in vain that they keep worshiping me, because they teach commands of men as doctrines.’"I keep thinking of this scripture whenever I have a discussion with someone about petty rules like the no beard thing, or writing hours on a little slip of paper, or the judicial process and reinstatement.
Also, AlmostAtheist - In my opinion, I would use the NWT whenever possible if you want to reason with a jw. Even if another translation may make the point better, it would be to easy for the jw to blame it on the fact that you are using another translation. Use their tactics; the NWT can be a common ground. It seems to me that even using that bible there are a multitude of scriptures that can make a jw think.

Huge cheers and claps for you!!! You have done a great service. It is also great that you added the link to download the site. I suggest everybody download the site so that it can never be destroyed. No matter how many times the WT nails one, it will pop up somewhere else just as quick. They are rich and powerful, but they can't compete with the power of the mighty internet.
if you have followed our story you know we were moving out of state to start over and get away from tons of extended jw family.. we are officially moved.
hundreds of miles away from our old life.

for those who may not remember my previous posts, i'm someone who has been studying with the jw's for about two years but didn't commit (i.e., get baptized) because, as i thought then, i was just too selfish and cowardly to join up with the jw's.
that's before i found this site and watched the dateline video on the child molestation problem.
Lynn, this is a great thread and a great question I had never thought of. I will add to my arsenal of great questions for jws.

To answer your question, yes, it has put some strain into the marriage. My wife does not complain about going to meetings and service by herself, but she gets frustrated if I complain when I am treated badly by witnesses. She will often say that since I have made my decision (by stopping meeting attendance) then I shouldn't dwell on it or try to bring up things that I think are wrong at the hall or in the organization. I then say that it is very tough to move on when she is completely immersed in activity with the org, when I get many phone calls from the elders, when I have to work with other witnesses who are nosy, etc. I have been badmouthed very much in this area by witnesses, and don't feel I am out of line for being upset about it.
so that's pretty much the conversation we have over and over. That, and also, sometimes she comes home from the meeting upset because she gets hounded with questions about where I am, who I am associating with, etc.
On the other hand, in one way it did help our marriage for me to become inactive, because it took a huge stress out of my life. I was very unhappy feeling like I did not fit in and could not ever really speak my mind on anything. I always felt like the square peg and it really ate at me. I guess I wouldn't even mind her being so active, if I didn't constantly have to worry about the witnesses gossiping, or the elders harassing me.
i still consider it a bad habit with health concerns.
but i am honestly attracted to the idea of a pipe and cherry tobacco.. i have joked of it some with wifey, but not too serious.
maybe though just an occasional pipe or a cuban would be ok?.
Jeff- thanks for the offer, that sounds good. Ditto for you if you ever come to Phoenix. A Cigar and a Beer, plus intelligent conversation - that would be a treat for me.

Yes, she does have a pretty good idea of how I feel, but whenever we start talking about it she shuts down. Her defense mechanism is that she thinks I am just mad so I see things in a certain way. If I start to criticize the FDS at all, I can see the change in her expression, and the conversation is over. She has no problem saying that people have different situations, and only Jehovah can judge, but she does not let herself criticize the organization itself. She is very, very involved in the congregation. I don't know why, but she has been even more active since I quit going. It kind of hurts, but I try to let it go because she has not criticized me for not going.

I would love to try a good cigar. I have heard that many practicing witness brothers indulge in cigars on occasion, of course only in certain company. If I had anybody to smoke one with, I think I would jump at the chance.
