Pope Francis condemns child sex abuse and Church cover-ups
by pleaseresearch inthis is good from the pope and really puts a lot of shame on our gb.
i could never see them doing this.. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-45249109.
pope francis has condemned the "atrocities" of child sex abuse and clerical cover-ups in a letter to the world's 1.2bn roman catholics.. the letter to "the people of god" calls for an end to the "culture of death" in the church, addresses failures to deal with abuse and asks for forgiveness.. last week a grand jury report detailed seven decades of abuse in pennsylvania.. the landmark investigation found more than 1,000 identifiable minors had been abused by 300 priests in the us state.. thousands more are thought to have fallen victim.

Newspaper reports: Dutch government will initiate inquiry into child abuse within JW community
by Anders Andersen intoday a dutch newspaper published an in-depth follow-up item on jw abuse issues.. the most interesting part of the article is this:.
the politicians also let themselves be heard.
a month ago the house of representatives voted unanimously in favor of a motion to enforce an independent inquiry into abuse within the jehovah's witnesses, as the organization refuses to initiate it.

How did those in charge of the congregation respond to the accusations?
Probably, and I'm just assuming, of course,
very poorly
and with a view to prioritizing protecting the good name of the organization concerned whether that be the Scouts, Oxfam, the Catholic Church, or even Jehovah's Witnesses and the Watchtower.
-Are the religion's policies adequate to protect minors within it's ranks?
See answer to first question and take a guess.

I was in Cardiff last night (Saturday) and saw several of them walking around the city centre. Made me a bit depressed seeing the young ones in their teens and twenties as I thought of the lives they are wasting. They had their badges on while in casual clothes. I never wore a badge even in 'meeting clothes' let alone civvies.

Dutch House of Representatives formally requests the government to start an investigation re. JW child abuse
by Anders Andersen intoday the dutch house of representatives unanimously voted to petition the government to start an investigation into jw child abuse issues.. the request from the house of reps. came after jw nl refused to listen to repeated and serious requests from the government to start an independent investigation themselves.. now it's up to the government to either accept the request by the house of reps. and start an investigation, or refuse to do so and explain to the house why.
it appears the minister of justice is not unwilling to start an investigation though.... collection of dutch news items here.

Doubter said,
''If 300 people accused me of dealing illegal drugs because I am a doctor who writes prescriptions to sick people, that doesn’t mean I’m dealing illegal drugs.''
No, of course it wouldn't mean that you were actually dealing illegal drugs. That would be a bit silly wouldn't it.
However I have to say that if 300 different people accused my doctor of dealing illegal drugs then at the very least I'd want somebody, preferably the police in this analogy, to do some kind of investigation. Wouldn't anybody?

Are we losing our way a bit at JWN?
by nicolaou infirstly, i want to be crystal clear how grateful i am for jwn.
it's been my place of support for over seventeen years and it's the first online space i direct anyone to if they are taking steps out of the cult.
i am not bashing jwn - i love this place and appreciate the hard work and expense simon puts in to keep it going.

Cobweb,
''When i come to this forum i select hottest and latest to structure what i see. This means that Politics gets included and tends to dominate which i don't like. I don't know if there is anything i can do about that - maybe someone could make a suggestion.''
Me too. And I don't sign in unless I want to post. So I rarely get to see/read anything under 'members only.'
Any new visitors are unlikely to sign up and sign in straight away so are also unlikely to read anything members only. Maybe get anything political related moved to members only. But I don't know how practical that would be.
