Ah, sorry. It seems they've exceeded their daily bandwidth allowance. I must have pushed 'em over the edge.

i've been seriously taking a step back lately and criticizing and analyzing my beliefs, especially during meetings since there's nothing better to do.
however, every time i do this i can't help but think of the future.
how do you guys view the general moral bases of the future?

When a person poses a question such as yours, I will normally direct them to read Nietzsche's On The Geneology of Morals, to begin with.
"you people are all idiots" post reminded me of some the witness reviews i've seen on amazon.com.
enjoy!
weak and wrong, march 18, 2003. .
6669, I took a brief look at the link you posted to the watchtower.org site and something hit me.
"the Witnesses have deep regard for people of all ethnic and cultural backgrounds."
I can recall statements such as this made oh so very frequently in the literature. "The Witnesses" behave this way, "Witnesses" do this, or don't do that. When I try to place myself in the mindframe I was in when I attended meetings, I recall understanding that this was saying something to me other than what it said. The statement quoted above would seem to an outsider to say that there is evidence that Witnesses as a whole "have deep regard for people of all ethnic and cultural backgrounds". However, a current Witness, perhaps only subconsciously, interprets that same line as a command that in order to be a good Witness, you must portray this characteristic.
In the third paragraph:
At the same time, the Witnesses recognize the right of others to worship in harmony with the dictates of their conscience.
Ok, to an outsider who knows nothing of the org, that seems to imply that there is an air of tolerance towards other religions. Of course, JWs and ex-JWs know this to be utterly untrue. To a Witness, sure, we recognize the right of others to worship in other ways. But if you do, you're going to die a horrible death in Armageddon. It's such a subtle method for control that I still sometimes have a hard time pinpointing exactly where some of the specific control bits arose from. This is also why I think it's so difficult to get a currently indoctrinated JW to see all of this.
i am no longer a witness.
i've told all my worldly friends and my immediate family - my kids have told their friends.
i haven't been to a meeting in over a year (and have no desire to go to one) - but i'm not dad or dfd.
jgnat, those are wonderful suggestions!
seriously, there are more women dubs than men.
lot's more as i recall.
why would women be attracted to join such a chauvinistic, patriarchal and mysogenist religious group?

I went some steps further, realizing that perhaps the WTS, while utilizing quite overt methods for control over their constituents, may not be the only organization, religion, etc. with control over the hearts and minds of the masses as its goal, and have been attempting to clean the cobwebs out completely, questioning absolutely everything.
I now believe that the bible, and indeed every holy book, is more used as a tool for enslaving or at least controlling the masses than anything else.
My studies and experience in the past decade and a half have led me to understand that a truly divine connection may only be obtained through an inner discourse and that relying on any man-made device, holy books included, can only lead to misunderstanding, misinterpretation, and outright corruption ultimately.
I feel that a course of study and practice with this goal as its focus is the only true method for gaining a knowledge of, and relationship with, God (or whatever you choose to call It).

The congregation I grew up in did not seem to be that way. We had an enormous number of young, attractive brothers and very few young, attractive sisters back then. For us guys, DCs and assemblies were like mating season.
Being a single father of one, my parents have as recently as this past year mentioned to me that might consider going back to the KH to meet "a nice girl". As tempting as that is... um, no! I'd prefer a relationship that is a partnership rather than another person in submission.
I think I will generally agree with what others have suggested as reasons for women to join the JWs.
what do you like to drink, other than water, that quenches your thirst, when you're extrememely thirsty?.

hello fellow geeks,.
i have a question regarding visibility of devices inside a network behind a router running network address translation.
i have a router providing internet access to several machines / devices on a private (192.168) network in my house.
Is it even remotely possible for someone outside of my network to connect to - or even see - this device?
There is no such thing as an unhackable system. You have to weigh the likelihood of a hack attempt vs. how much you're willing to spend to quell your paranoia.
Otherwise, what donkey said.
Good luck!

i have this video and give it my wholehearted endorsement.
it is the story of the worldwide church of god which was started by a man named herbert armstrong, who had the same self-aggrandizing disease shared by russel-rutheford-knorr-franz..... the church began to reform after his death (which was not supposed to happen because he was "elijah" returned in the end times to "set things right" before christ's return) the video is the story of that reformation.. i am sure they still have some problems.
Excellent! Thanks cyp!
