if you wash windows for a living and own 12 suits.....you might be a jehovahs witness.... if you engage in "self-abuse" then pray 3 hours for forgiveness....you might be a jehovahs witness..... anymore?.

Tetra,
Are you sure this wasn't the closing prayer at the latest D.C.??
in the years leading up to 1975, there was an implicit (if not explicit) discouragement of having children given the proximity of armageddon.
for the most part, this seemed to have been ignored.
my jw grandma now has great-great grandchildren.
In the years leading up to 1975, there was an implicit (if not explicit) discouragement of having children given the proximity of armageddon.
For the most part, this seemed to have been ignored. My JW grandma now has great-great grandchildren. And on and on it goes. I have always
wondered how the dubs reconcile this in their minds. The catch-22 for the WTS is obviously that they cant afford losing more door-to-door
salesmen (especially the young and energetic) but they cant reconcile the logic of bringing babies into a wicked, wicked old system of things
that is about to be destroyed. Would you ever envision a time when the WTS will have no choice but to explicitely encourage the dubs
to "increase" their baby production to ensure their financial survival??? +=
what strikes me on this board is the number of adult converts that have left the borg, either fading out or getting df'd.
from my experience (i was born into it, 2nd generation, left before getting baptized) most of the faders or escapees were also like.
me, born into it, never really accepted it and just bowed out at the first opportunity.
My impression from this thread is that those born in are WAY more likely to leave then those converted as adults. We are now well over 80%
"born into it" or "almost born into it" relative to the adult converts that left. Having said that, I think the results may be skewed for some of the reasons
GBL mentioned. However, my feeling is that, you have more to lose once you have consciously decided to give up a "normal" life for life in the borg and
perhaps more importantly, the underlying reasons for adult conversion seem to be a critical, disastrous life event leaving the convert vulnerable to
manipulation. Seems like most of the "kids" that left, had issues with the religion while still small and silently endured for years until they slip below the
radar safely. I wonder if the WTS actually keeps stats about this kind of information? It would certainly help them in formulating future propaganda
for the "mental regulating" of the dub kids.
.
just wondering, any from bc, vancouvr/chilliwack area?.
thanks,,orbi
Welcome and Bienvenue!!
I'm from Ontario eh?

gbl
errr, did anybody see the latest pic of Carey Barbour posted awhile back? I think I would rather eat sand......
i've been having a bit of a browse around on www.myspace.com looking at the jw groups.. there are so many listed there and heaps of young jws seem to frequent the sites.. how feasible would it be for someone to setup a jw group under the guise of being pro and slowly but surely bring up questions like... 'hey my history teacher taught from <insert publication name here> that jereuselum (sp) wasn't destroyed in 607bce but in 587bce.
is that true?
whats that all about???'.
Miss Peaches,
An excellent idea! They have no problems invading our space....lets return the favour!!
greendawn asked this question at: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/94462/1604122/post.ashx#1604122 (hope i did that right).
i think this question deserved a thread of its own.. rose.
i hope that's ok, greendawn.
They had this notion of "sinning against the holy spirit" which scared the hell out of me as a kid.....it was the one sin for which there was absolutely no chance
of forgiveness at all.....just the lake of gehenna!!! Not sure I remember now exactly what constituted such a "sin" but I am sure it involved questioning the GB in some way.
LOL.
well i made publisher a couple of weeks ago.
i shared that story on here.
but now iam getting pressured into being baptized in september.
Buck,
Please RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love should never be conditional on anything.....
