  "College, oh no!" PT 1-New guy here

  hello everyone, i have been keeping up with posts on this board for about four years now, been a member for about one year but have never had the courage to make my first post.

  so now i'm going to make that first step to get rid of that fear i had of betraying myself, and vent my experiences and frustrations with this faith.

  i think this board will be a good way for me to make acquaintances of people with similar feelings that i have regarding the jehovah's witnesses, as well as a good outlet for my frustrations as a jw, and get some advice as to maybe getting a reasonable exit strategy in the near future.

  now that i got your attention, here`s a quote from the wt, february 1952:.

  The issue of white and black is still very much alive in the states I guess.

  Here we are much more integrated, but have a lot of problems too. Things are changing.

  Until recently thinks about the country of origin could almost not be publicly spoken about. Extreem right parties have since sprong up and got a lot of votes. (we have more then 2 parties).

  Now, the remedy of ultra right, seems not to ignore the facts but discuss the facts and try to improve.

  For example: before if you told the fact that people who where born in couintry X were ten times likely to end up in jail, it was considered rasism. Now it is considered a fact and acknowledging this is a first step in changing. Now we can ask ourselves: why? Wat do we do wrong that that happens?

  Sport and JWs!!!

  just wondering what your experiences are.

  were you "encouraged" not to devote time to personal exercise, gym or sport in general?

  i remember this one time co gave a talk how "we do not need sport" then he proceeded to explain how walking up the stairs in field service was exercise enough for our legs, then how we didn't need any stretching exercise as making gestures while explaining the bible verses would do the job, and so on.

  Recreation sports was ok. We always did some sport (football, tennis or whatever) with the whole congregation. Including most of the elders (not the ones very 'near to the gate').

  However a person can not be a MS or elder if he plays competitive sports. although I did and all elders knew, but not the CO

  Proffesional sport is out of the question

  Do The JW's Really Believe The Bible?

  they make all these claims about believing the bible but always refer questions back to the governing body of jw's.

  so, who is the final authority on the scriptures for the jw's?

  is it really the bible or what some men decipher to be what the bible says?

  in the bible, its says that the hebrews made bricks?

  when they were slaves,what were the bricks used for?.

  also their burden was increased by not giving them straw to make the bricks.. if straw was a vital ingregidients(sp?

  Any "Miraculous" experience happen to you like the ones said at Conventions

  i had to sit through those experiences at the convention, i was wondering, did any of you used to be one of those people on stage giving an experience about how something miraculously happened like getting the exact amount of money you needed to pay your rent on the day it was due?

  i always hear the stories, but can anybody actually tell me something like this has happened to them when they were a good little witness?

  and if it has, did these sort of "events" stop taking place after you left?

  I have to admit that I am one of them, who once gave such an experience on a convention.

  It was somethig about preaching, and it was a great coincidence. But anyway if you preach long enough coincidences happen. They are not miraceles. Just statistics.

  Anyway nobody did check the truth of the experience. It was just assumed to be true. And of course I did give it a bit more flair then it actually was. As most did at that time, I talked to the others. Just told more juicy etc. Left out some thigs that would make it less a 'miracle' etc.

  Danny, I`m not englishspeaking either,I`m norwegian. The racism was the "meek"-part, it`s like saying "the blacks should be happy that they`re easy to fool". Look at the secong quote I posted, it`s post 28, if you think they weren`t racist. yes, that one was bad. But I think in the time (1914, in america) this was not a strange thought or arrangement. I think that they way for the acted in South Africa for example showed that recendly they are far from racism. I have to give that to them that they were positive i this way. I think other discrimination in the borg is much worse. Discrimination of Woman, the us <-> them thinking etc. Danny

  Actually I did not find the remar in the opening post shocking.

  You can say a lot of things about the JW cult, but I do not think they are racists.
