From a selfish perspective, I would want you to do it for the purpose of maintaining a pipeline of "inside" information for those of us here. But I agree with AK, to live a lie is to surrender your soul. "To thine own self be true."

My Very First Post
by leaving-jws ini have been so reluctant to post basically because i am so torn about exposing my personal life.
i happen to come across this website by mistake about 6 months ago.
i agreed with your opinions of the jws view on higher education and independent thinking that i found on this website.

The "not having children" doctrine has done much damage to thousands of couples. My wife and I came in in 1973 and bought the whole thing, hook, line and sinker. We strove to be as "exemplary" as possible, thinking that meant we were following in Christ's footsteps. At the time we were in our early 20's, and influenced by this teaching, decided the truly spiritual course was to wait until the "new system" to have children, and concentrate on the preaching work during this time. Alas, now we are approaching 60. I left in 2001 and my wife in 2005. It's too late for us. If you really want children, DON'T WAIT!! We really wish we had, especially now that we realize the "new system" is a land of Oz.
Here's something to chew on, that you mentioned: How arrogant is it for ANY human being to decide which prayers God listens to and which he doesn't? Isn't that the ultimate?

Judicial Committee being formed
by Bumble Bee inyes, sad to say.
i just got back from a birthday lunch with mary, and it's true, there is going to be a jc formed because of my pagan and hedonistic ways.. she did give me one saving grace though.
she said i could "approve" of the elders that are going to take me into the back room for a little "chat"!

Hey Roy, I'd say she needs a sound spanking and private reproof. Is this for real or just a chance for fantasy?

Regional Building Committee decisions boggles even a dubs mind...
by undercover inso i'm talking to someone from my old hall and he tells me that there are some disgruntled jws (including elders) who feel like some bad decisions are being made by the rbc.. for instance, one hall needed a new roof.
an elder, in the construction business, made a deal with a local non-jw roofer that if the brothers cleared off the old shingles, the roofer would come in with his crew and do the new roof for x amount of dollars.
the rbc elder in charge got wind of that arrangement and nixed the deal.

The comments in this thread are at total variance with my experiences with RBC. My business provided security systems for many Kingdom Halls in the area over about 10 years. I provided my labor at no charge, and charged only my cost for materials. There was no profit involved. If the comments above are true, this must vary by area. In addition, I provided monthly monitoring service at my cost for years. Only recently, after years of being inactive, have I raised their rates to the going rate, and most have cancelled their contracts.

Is it possible to download the MP3 file and listen to it offline? We don't have broadband available here and it's maddening trying to listen online. It buffers for 2-3 minutes and then plays 30 seconds. Over and over. Thanks.

When YOU went out in the field service.....
by JH inwhen you used to go in the field service, did you go out to have 2 more hours on your report, or did you really want to save somebody's life by preaching a message of salvation ?

Like a lot of you, Lenny and I both pioneered. He loved trying to help others. I felt since he had pioneered for a year and was able to do it, while running his own business, being an elder & all the stuff that involves, I had to follow his example. I was not sure I could do it, since I didn't feel I knew what I was talking about most of the time. However, I did really get into it. There was a good base of ladies to work with that, showed me how to make the most of your time. That didn't include long breaks like most believed. They took me on their bible studies with them. Soon I had my own students to take them on. After Lenny stopped going to meeting, my thoughts about field service changed. No more weekend hours, during the week when no one was home, to spend time with hubby. It was a stuggle to get more than the average hours or less, but who wanted to, let the young people do that! Weird how your views about fs change as you start thinking for yourself. It was like Snakes & others have said on this subject.

Barb's response to the WT's Media email and site
by Dogpatch inanyone else care to comment on the watchtower's media site response to the pedophile issue?

Yes, the anonymous phone call from a pay phone booth to me was one of the juicier tidbits from Barb's research. This apparently was the stock answer from the Legal Dept when elders from "reporting states" inquired. Talk about "doing things in the darkness"!! Such policy is clearly intended to shield the organization, and consequently the pedophile, from nosy law enforcement detectives uncovering "the rest of the story" while being able to claim they were "in compliance" with local laws. Yes, the letter, not the spirit. And as we all know, it's the "letter of the law" that the WT is most concerned about. And all this to the absolute detriment of the victim, as well as future victims. They thumb their nose at civil society and circle the wagons. I nominate Barbara for sainthood. If the X-JW "movement" ever wanted a spokesperson, we couldn't do any better than our girl.

get rich quick schemes, multilevel marketing, pyramid schemes and JWs
by marmot infrom my experience growing up in the jws there were two big recurring themes when it came to making money: .
1 - window washing or other janitorial work .
2 - cheezy "get rich quick" schemes and other cult-like sales practices .

Many times I tried to warn friends in the cong not to get involved in these things, as I had been myself and gotten burned more than once. Some became quite upset with me because they were warned that others would speak negatively of their newfound opportunity. (Sound familiar?) I remember in one congregation, right after the Thursday meeting, car trunks would be popping open as brothers exchanged boxes of "Mix-I-Go", a gasoline additive MLM scheme. I'm sure there are more than a few who still have boxes of stuff like this in their attics or basements.
One elder, who had a book study in his home, was an Herbal-Life devotee. We all had to enter his home each week through the garage, which was a virtual Herbal-Life store, with shelves upon shelves of product lining the garage wall. Immediately after the prayer each week, he would have his order book out. I was so offended I spoke to the PO about it, but they were very close friends and both quite well-to-do. Hey, never, you know them, Lloyd and Jim.
