some witnesses speak to me quite normally/.
others avoid me like the plague.. how are you treated by the witnesses?.
I have a very distant family member that I see once a year at a family reunion, last year she was was all hugs and laughing with me, this year... cold shoulder.
I honestly can't remember the last time I seen any witnesses from my old hall around town, it's been years, wonder where they've all gone ?

this is another list thread, we can list alll the things that really anoy us, heres mine:.
people who ask me to call them and then turn out not to have a answer phone!.
people who do not have locks on their bathroom door!.
I hate TV commercials with a passion !! I have a DVR, but still have to fast forward through them, which seems to take forever.
I despise clutter around the house, I believe everything has a place and should at the very least, be near it.
Buying groceries and finding items, after getting home, that are outdated !! I need to pay more attention before buying.
Products that are packaged in such a way that it takes an entire military force to open it, after which, I'm so frustrated I could care less.
People who think they are better than others, and refuse to listen to anyone else, much less consider that their point may also be valid.
People that hurt others just for the fun of it.
The list could go on and on...

1. getting baptized at 14 and not knowing what the heck i was 'signing' up for.
2. dating worthless, lazy, no work ethic, selfish 'brothers' who were supposedly approved all because they were baptized - but in the end - were a waste of my time and younger years in dating.. 3. subjecting my bf (back in the day) who was a non-jw to the whole jw experience!
i demanded that he study, i demanded that he change his religion in order to be with me, i made him sit with my parents and listened to them berate him (and myself) while they fed him all their haughty beliefs and requirements in order to date their jw daughter.

I understand what you're saying, there are times when I really get down on myself for what my girls went through, especially the school years.
At the time, in my area,"Home Schooling" was the thing, I took my oldest out of reg. school to finish high school at home, and my youngest was home schooled the first 5 years.
They missed out on so much.... for nothing basically.
Sometimes the guilt is overwhelming. I have apologized many times and they say they are fine, but I see the longing in their eyes when we go to school functions for my extended family.
they have all forgiven me...
i just havent been able to
forgive myself for that... yet
I sincerely hope that one day you and I both, will be able to do just that.

I still do not know how my beliefs will be replaced, I am pretty much agnostic at present. I do know that organised religion is never the answer.
I know the feeling, take your time... there's no rush when you're free to explore.

Goodness, Babygirl... I'm so sorry you had to endure all of that
I wasn't born in, so during my 13 years of "imprisonment"... I regret subjecting my 2 daughters to the strict JW routine.
We are all out now, and for that I am grateful.

anyway, i just finished watching the nightline special on scientology.
martin bashir (the guy who did the michael jackson interview that brought about the second child molestation complaint) interviewed a spokesman for scientology and 3 former high-ranking sea org members.
As Hubby and I watched this, and I learned they have approx. 10 million followers, I kept remarking how in the world could anyone buy into such teachings. What kind of mind set would a person have to have, to believe something that came from a Sci-Fi novelist ?
The more we watched and discussed it, my husband looked at me and said... "Isn't that basically what you did?", (he had never been a JW).
I was rather taken aback by that, my only defense was the same as stated below.
Same here in many ways. For one thing, the JWs at least pretend to base their nut-ology on the bible and semi-traditional christianity, which has been around for centuries. Most of us have been involved in it to some degree and thus are kind of de-sensitized to some of the extremism.
This bunch is actually worshipping and conforming themselves to the far-out ideas of a 1950s science fiction author!!!

Something that really struck me was how similar Tom Cruise's current demeanor is to that of the church's leader, David Miscavige. It's as if Tom Cruise has meticulously modeled himself after the guy. Pretty creepy.
I thought he seemed severely brainwashed. Not the Cruise I remember from other interviews.
Also thought the spokesperson came across as an "Ass".

my cong was very keen on having the meeting no matter what.
i remember one occasion when we had a power cut in the middle of winter.
due to the fact that there was no windows to the hall (!
During a CO visit, he made it very, very clear that all were expected to be out in service the following day.
At the time meals were provided by the congregation and all who went out in service ate together at the hall.
Later that night, we had a major ice storm, as of 8:30 that morning the meeting for service was still on.
Many bundled up, braved the ice along with all the cooked food and showed up at the hall, by 9:00 a.m. the CO canceled the meeting and told us all to go HOME, because it was too "Dangerous" for anyone to be out.
Such a jerk.
