ok, now here's a question for the other side.
when you finally discovered enough information that resulted in your leaving the watchtower bible and tract society's organization, what convinced you that you just needed to replace it with a better more believanle version instead of questioning the whole concept of an invisible god?.
is it that you find the idea of no afterlife to hard to deal with?
I concur Mastadon. By the way your last album is not bad.
true or false?.
most atheists' beliefs are so much a part of them that they barely speak about it and infrequently even think of it.
this differs from ex-cultist atheists who tend to be more emotional about it because the topic pushes their buttons (i.e., this forum's atheists are far from being a representative sample of atheists in the world-at-large and sweeping conclusions about all atheists cannot be accurately drawn from us).
That is probably true. As a fairly recent agnostic/atheist, I normally do not speak about it to others unless I am asked or put on the spot. I believe one must reach this state on through their own research and study. I do find it funny that most folks think I must prove my non-belief when in reality, it's the believers who have the burden of proof.
i have a friend who has been in bethel for 15 years.
he is still single and looking for the right girl.
he is a really nice guy, he tries to help people in his congregation, the young people, the older ones.
Ditto with Yesidid. I have no issues with rank and file JW's. Some of them are the nicest people I have known.
though i've never been an elder (thank god), i was raised by one and know several.
it has been my observation that there is a tremendous amount of politics on bodies of elders.
this is probably not a news flash to most of you.. there is a saying that "academic politics are so bitter because the stakes are so low.
all the whack jobs and walking wounded were in one congo, and all the "superstars" where in the other.
I can identify with this. The congregation I was a part of (Farmers Branch) split from the Walnut Hill congregation and virtually all of the superstart JW's went with Farmers Branch. Many folks in the circuit noted that Farmers Branch elders had a large part of the assemblies and conventions that was our of poportion to the other congregations. Jarded Hardie was the man who ran the district conventions in Dallas-Ft. Worth (and still does to this day and was also featured on the JW documentary "Knocking"). Roy McWhorter was over all of the sound. Jack Addington ran the banking and donation portions. Poor Walnut Hill was left with the rejects and rebels. Many of the younger brothers had long hair and beards which eventually led to folks calling it the Flower Child congregation. I found it amazing that two groups sharing the same hall could be so different.

jws & atheists - great (cultic) minds think alike.
in the jehovahs witness religion, there is a ceremony known in those circles as the memorial of christs death, or just the memorial for short.
it is claimed and believed among members that jehovahs witnesses observe the exact same ceremony that is more widely known as the lords supper among christians.
Even if we find some unquestionable evidence that "someone" created the universe, it does not mean that its called Jehovah/Yahweh/Jesus and he had his words recorded in the bible. Jews/Christians/Muslims have no more proof that their god is THE GOD than any of the other religions. It's all based on opinion and what one is comfortable with believing. Most believers around me cannot even give up 16th century English to get a point across.

A question though, if you don't mind me asking is what are your requirements
My requirements would be something like actually hearing or seeing something that is unquestionably of Godly origin. I find it ludicrous that a being who desires so much attention and worship from his creation, does such a lousy job of being able to prove he/she/it exists. I would expect a Supreme Being whose thoughts and intelligence were far above ours and who did not act like a spoiled jealous brat.
