an ex brother and i were talking recently and he recounted a bizarre story.
he too left the witneys some years ago, got a divorce, and the two children (both boys) decided to stay with his wife since she was still a jw.. one of his boys (never baptized a jw) confided in him not long ago about the sleeping arrangements after he left.
she told the boys that she was feeling depressed and lonely because of the divorce and turmoil that their apostate father had caused her and asked them (ages 15 and 16) to each alternate and sleep with her every other night.. it took lots of courage for this son to talk to his father about it since he wanted it off his chest.

While I now live in the southern part of the state, I and my family used to live in Rogers (1966 - 1973), the NW part of the state, as you know. Worked at Daisy. I sometimes gave hour talks (boring, I'm sure) in those surrounding towns over the MO and OK lines. Watched the famed 1969 Ark / Texas national championship game on black and white TV, where Nixon attended.
Let me know when ya'll have another one of those get-togethers in Dallas.

I've learned so much about several facets of human nature during this busy thread.
First, make sure and get all the facts -- and get them straight. My bad.
This forum has the best and most generous hearts, bar none. I'd never experienced the kind of empathy seen here inside any Kingdom Hall I ever attended in my 21 years -- before I got out.
This forum also has the most critical folks around. Whether many of us like it or not, that is good! If we all had been as critical, we'd never had gotten mixed up with the Witneys in the first place and this forum wouldn't exist.
I have a good feeling about all this and may even play a round of golf.

i was wondering if anyone would know anything about a documentary that was made in 1959 about the divine will international assembly of jehovah's witnesses that took place in 1958. i am looking for a copy of it.. any help would be much appreciated.

Hmmm ... no. If you're talking about a video documentary it must've been done on some type of film -- although B/W videotape was around. I don't remember ever seeing one, but that was a long time ago.
For what it's worth I was there and I probably saw you amongst the 1/4 million folks divided up in two stadiums. My family and I traveled from New Bedford, MA, and stayed like many, in a private home.
Are you, or anyone you know, visible in the film? That was 1958, though, wasn't it?

I would prefer the old posts were not kept on file for so long, then we could change direction without all the baggage of passed posts showing up to embarrass us.
The thought occurred to me, Trevor, wouldn't the Society have loved to have printed on disappearing ink -- you know, disappears after 10 years or so because what they've said and what they've printed is probably their worst enemy.

I certainly don't pretend legal expertise, and laws vary I'm sure from state to state (and definitely country to country) but the above case in Massachusetts seems to imply that if one of these boys were having a recent (other cases indicate within last 3 years) mental problem as a result of the bizarre behavior then it may be something to look into. Heresay is an issue here but if the other boy backed up his experience (which is doubtful since he's still a JW), who knows?
