Quite simply, the WT bans its members from all social activities that involve mixing with non-JWs...under the guise of paganism. This starts at childhood and continues into adulthood- as is the case of b-day sand holidays. They allow wedding anniversaries because they involve the couple, and maybe close friends- presumably other JWs.

Why do JW's only pick on Birthdays, Holidays, when so many other things are pagan
by Joliette ini've always wondered this, and with the holidays coming up, why does the watchtower only pick on certain things, and leave other things to question, or to the conscience?.

With the latest Australian Special Talk, we now have a complete picture of the Organizational Plan
by WingCommander inper this australian talk, found here: http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/beliefs/203281/1/latest-special-talk-in-australia id say we have now seen the future........ ah yes........the governing body is now starting to show their hand, to begin to show their future plans for this false-religion-cult of fear and oppression.
it has been said on here for the last few years now, that with the elimination/combination of the book study at the kingdom halls instead of at homes, the introduction of new rule books (keep yourself in god's love) and the new elder manual that a "tightening of the reigns" was beginning.
and so, just as the members of jwd and the internet have written, so it shall be done by the governing body overlords.

WC:
Again, I'd like to emphasize that I didn't say it would be a DF'ing offense, but merely seen as the person DA'ing themselves, much like if a JW accepted a blood transfusion, they would be DA'ing themselves and henceforth shunned. The hardline, ultra-fanatical, crazy-cult era of Governing Body 2.0 has begun. Let the hard fist of oppression land squarely upon the jaws of the downtrodden and weak rank & file.
My reply:
ALL dfings/Da'ings now carry the message 'so and so is no longer one of JWs'. A person seen as da'ing themself is not seen as such by the people..the announcement is identical.

LWT:
If a person is merely inactive and no longer wants to be shunned (if your theory is correct), does he knock on a few doors and have his "status" changed? What is the reinstatement process?
Is an announcement made that a particular person is now inactive? Will an announcement be made when a person has been reactivated?
My reply: Exactly. It would be counter-productive. Many who are inactive still believe in the org and feel guilt. Df them and many will give up entirely.

LeavingWT, I agree completely..While I acknowledged the possibility, this is still speculatory. Nothing stated at this assembly is different from past statements- that a JW is not a real JW if they don't preach. The only difference is how the comment is being taken- but nothing corroberating that this will now mean inactive ones are not JW's- as is df instead of just real JWs- has been put forth. That is called speculation-possible but not established. Unlikely- as it would push away inactive believers.

Latest Special Talk in Australia
by jwfacts inno, i don't mean the visit by oprah.. there was a special talk on sunday relayed to all the aussie congs from sydney.
apparently the speaker had an american accent, but was stationed in a latin american country.
he was really pushing field service and pulled out the old one that: if you do not witness you are not one of jehovah's witnesses.

Wing Commander, you are right- they have gotten away with it over the blood doctrine, why not over door to door. Door to door is fre publicity for them (although quite ineffective) and busy work to keep the members slaving for them.

Wing, no it is not a stretch...and quite possible...and EXTREMELY cultish. They would also lose many, many inactive ones who would otherwise have come back at some point in time.
Would it be an enforced shunning?? I hope they do it. I hope you are right.
