  you got that right! lots of "singing" keys. i remember the saxophones having an especially hard time, ha ha!

  and yes, there was a lot of competition for "first chair" as i can recall.

  anyone go to that convention in ny back in the 50's?

  remember when they lasted until 8pm?

  in the summer?

  i think i went to the exact same DCs as you did; montreal, buffalo, 60's and 70's etc. i remember being caught in a huge snowstorm for one of them that was held in a barn. and we had to stay at this weird brother's house!!!

  oh, yes as a child in the early sixties. melting in a hot outdoor stadium/ being dragged along in my "crenalin" and patent leather shoes. 8 day assemblies lasting well into the evening. cloth diapers for my sister. ARRGGHHH! no wonder my mother has emotional problems to this day!!!!

  actually the soda pop, etc. was a real treat because we were not allowed any "junk" food as children (no candy, cookies, soda pop, sugary cereals, etc.)

  i borrowed a copy of "jehovah's witnesses; portrait of a contemporary religious movement" from the library and my never-wuz-a-dubbie boyfriend saw it.

  he looked a little pissed off and said to me "you've wasted 40+ years of your life with this stuff, i don't see why you have to waste even more time with this; but if you do, it's your choice.

  i guess you have to have been there.

  thanks for the backup B.C! i don't make a big deal of it, but i don't think my boyfriend realizes how "new" everything is to me, even silly stuff like wrapping presents! a daunting task for someone who seldom, save a 18yr old wedding here and there.. .

  at a pioneer's birthday party... YEAH THAT'S RIGHT!

  a few days ago i had the privilege of being invited to a regular pioneer's birthday party.

  i met her a couple of weeks ago, and even though she knows i am inactive and have serious doubts, we hit it off on a social level.

  so that's why i was invited... .
