Inappropriate "shepherding" calls.
by avishai inhow many have recieved calls by the elders that were under the guise of "shepherding", but somehow inappropriate, i.e, you were a woman alone with only one elder showing up, or you felt physically intimidated by both.
or say they show up at like, 10:30 at night for a shepherding call.
and you say "hey, i appreciate the visit but please call first!

how do JWs justify having children "in the last days?"
by kid-A inin the years leading up to 1975, there was an implicit (if not explicit) discouragement of having children given the proximity of armageddon.
for the most part, this seemed to have been ignored.
my jw grandma now has great-great grandchildren.

I always wondered this myself when I was a teenager and they drilled into our heads that you shouldn't go to college and pursue a higher education to support yourself because you would be wasting 4 or 5 precious years of your life and what if armageddon came and caught you offguard?!!
Then the very same year I got baptized at the DC in 1987 they addressed that very topic "childrearing in the time of the end" and it was negative and discouraged and I do remember the Watchtower study article that came out later; however I dont think they written anything about that since then.

JW kids who are currently in college LOVED the convention drama!

How many of these on the testimonials have supportive parents in the truth to back them up in pursuing "spiritual goals" and work for a family owned business or parents support them by letting them live with them? I doubt they have ones fresh out of high school with "unbelieving parents" and unsupportive and no way to make a good living up there saying I am going to skip college and pioneer and just get by. If they are, I will give them maybe a year and then they will be here.

You both are right. I have been on my diet (I know I shouldn't say "diet" since they seem only a temporary fix to a permanent problem), and I have lost a little over 10 pounds and still am going on it. Im doing the low carb diet; I would say the Atkins diet but Im not following it exactly the way it instructs in the Akins book since I do have frozen berries for breakfast and you are suppose to add those after the induction phase; but it has taught me to be more creative on choosing and combining foods. I avoid processed food and eat more foods in their natural form and in between meals if I get hungry or need something to munch on, I keep a can of mixed nuts around but dont have too many of those (nuts, not peanuts). This has worked for me so far. Amazingly on this type of diet I am suprised how much my appetite has gone down and I dont stay hungry.
