what do you know about philosophy and philosophers?
i know many philosphers who were inspired by the bible in their writings, but .
i'm more curious about the "secular" philosophers.
classicist: of course the greeks had morals before their Philosophers started using logic to derive them.
Talesin , I wasn't planning on taking this topic into a particular direction, I merely wondered what interesting philosophical wisdoms you could enlighten me with ( you know I started this thread out of selfinterest : ) Please do share what you know, I'll be glad to read what you come up with
SixofNine I heard read and was tought the Atomic theory was first proposed by greek philosophers living BC. I can't remember wich specific philosopher it was though. Was it Aristotle? Maybe someone else can help me out here, I'll try and look it up myself in the meanwhile.
thanks for the poem Trevor. Philosophy books are often quite dry reading, if only they wrote those wisdoms in the form of poems. Your poem reminds me of the fact that I regularly find philophical wisdoms in the lyrics of modern music.
I don't really have time now, so here's an interesting site to research:
let?s assume earthquakes were to be part of ?the sign of the end?
given by jesus.
if we follow this logic, then what does it mean in real terms?
Well, I think there was certainly an increase in reported earthquakes after 1900. But that's because of new communicationdevices like telephone and radio.

... what can i say, except, okay, i am being needy, but what's wrong with that???
hahahaha j/k.
hell, can't we i just be real for a change?.
I think you're a really honest, intelligent and kind person eventhough I've only known you for a short period of time and never met you in the real. You're an Angel but even angels are sometimes short on courage. Hope this helps you a bit and btw I love your posts and comments on everything and I hope you keep making them. Here's a little truth:

I'm more curious about the "secular" philosophers. The old Greeks for instance Philosophied about morals. They were able to rationally
derive morals without "devine" inspiration. This to me proves that morals are a product of humanity itself and not given to us by some
divinity in the sky. Important Greek philosophers are; Socrates, Plato and Aristotle.
Another thing about the old Greek philosphers is that they laid the groundwork for "real science". In fact they had the hypothesis
of everything consisting of atoms before Christ was born, and almost 2000 years before this hypothesis was proven by
phycisist/chemists/mathematicians. I'll see if I can dig up some more great accomplishments of philosopy, until then please leave your
thoughts/knowledge on the topic

to many religions but i dont understand why.
do you think there will be an understanding between the two?
Science and Philosophy have always have always been my "religion". I find it far more reliable yet less "black and white" than any religion. Though I'm aware of people who find peace in Christ and all that, I could never, being too rational a person.

The very word "secrecy" is repugnant in a free and open society; and we are as a people inherently and historically opposed to secret societies, to secret oaths and to secret proceedings. We decided long ago that the dangers of excessive and unwarranted concealment of pertinent facts far outweighed the dangers, which are cited to justify it.
