  Been years since Ive gone - should I bother with a letter?

  sig other is half assed still in, one family member is in... its been years... wondering if i should just let it be or just call up hq and say i resign... i will be pissed if they announce shit at the kh, though i dont even remember the last one i went to... lol.

  for me, its none of anyone elses business... thoughts?.

  It is interesting what you wrote about attending that funeral and only recognizing fewer than 25% of the people there because people either moved, died, etc.. But, I have to comment about that rambling letter from the guy who attended fifteen+ years earlier.. You decided why bother making an announcement about somebody who nobody basically knew?

  The same mentality could also be applicable to JWs’ shunning routine when in public places and SO many years have passed that the shunned person doesn’t even recognize them. (Maybe they should go up and reintroduce themselves to the shunned person.🤣) The shunning routine doesn’t work without an audience that knows what’s going on. Witnesses are ridiculous people and don’t realize how unimportant they are and that shunned person in the store (who moved on with their life) doesn’t even know who the hell that person is who’s staring at them. (I experienced this and figured it out later on.)

  But, getting back to the main topic, I think most wouldn’t be bothered with any letter.

  When I read your post, I got angry for several reasons.

  Obviously you are donating because your family expects this… Please tell me you know enough (and are not ‘scared’) to speak up and contact the bank or whoever about this mistake! 🙄

  Sorry I wasn’t clear. What I was referring to was being privately approached by a brother asking politely if you would donate $ because a certain person in the congregation has fallen on ‘hard times’. (I wasn’t referring to them asking for $ for the religion itself.)

  This happened to me years ago when I was in. They look for ‘responsible’ types who seem good natured. But, I’m talking about back then - when things were relatively good.. It was a once in a while thing.. The economy hadn’t yet collapsed and all these pioneers living on the edge hadn’t yet reached retirement age with no preparation! Can you imagine things now?

  This is why I’m Glad to no longer be in the JW religion. The people who knocked me for working certainly wouldn’t be supporting me. But, yet I could guarantee some fool would be making their way over to me to ask for money for somebody who never wanted to work..I would end up telling somebody off!

  What`s the reason some of you think JW`s are in decline ?

  from what i can see no such thing is happening.i became a jw in 1960 and remained for about 30 years and the numbers of active jw`s today in the world are far greater than they were back then.. and here in australia the numbers are much higher than they were back then .. so i don`t see that their in decline or have any worries about losing support .. don`t the numbers speak for themselves ?.

  is it just wishful thinking on your part ?.

  Yes, I remember those days when the ‘Truth’ sounded feasible.

  I also remember some of those ex-hippie ‘deep thinker’ types. But, I have to say they were the most judgmental people in the world! So, I never really liked them. Probably some of them might still be around now hanging on as the Boomer generation. Sorry it all went bad. Sorry about the broken dreams.

  I stayed longer than I should have because I was ever-optimistic that things would get better in the congregation. But, I should have left a decade sooner than I did. The 1995 thing was the last straw. It was Over. I’m just Grateful I kept my full-time job.. What a mistake it would have been if I had let anybody in that religion (with their judgmentalism and condemnation) influence me about my life!

  I agree that in-person meetings won't necessarily make more JWs put money in the box if they don’t want to. Just like it won’t make them donate online.

  But, there are certain people in congregations who ask for $ privately in person and a few are accustomed to getting ‘green handshakes’. The Covid pandemic shutdown must have put a cramp in these JWs’ style and they must have had to get very ‘creative’ about getting money.. Also, what about brothers going around privately with an envelope approaching certain people asking for money? You can only do these things in person.. (Of course, some nervy idiot can call on the phone and ask (and I would press End Call).

  Point is that being in person has its benefits for some not to mention more intrusive ‘control’ over what’s left of the tired-out rank & file JWs.

  Sorry, I’m not buying it. If anybody wants to believe they are ‘building halls in Africa’, I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell them.

  I am inclined to believe like VIDIOT does that halls there would be relatively inexpensive to make.

  Confirmed: CO Discourages Zoom

  i can confirm that the co during one of his service talks stated that zoom is a provision for elderly, infirmed, as well as people who might need it on occasion due to health reasons, otherwise you are expected to be in person at meetings and in the ministry.

  this had to come down from the top.

  maybe they do not want to put it in a gb update or broadcast since that would be too public i suppose.

  I’m sure this is mainly about them not getting enough donations in boxes (maybe some missing those green handshakes).. besides the near empty kingdom halls.

  It would be too bad for JWs if they got rid of Zoom. I just don’t see certain people being forced back due to health, etc. If they totally got rid of Zoom then maybe these people might get a Sunday meeting in once in a while. But that’s about it.

  Back when I was in, I experienced soft shunning to some degree due to my full-time job.

  I didn’t have a name for it but the feeling was like being on a job where there was a clique that didn’t like you.. But, with the Witnesses, I didn’t care for what I saw at a distance (the judgy preachiness) and I wouldn’t really have wanted them around me.

  So, I’m out many years and retired…As others have said, it was no loss to me.. So, if the religion’s stupid shunning routine had a purpose, it failed with me. Thankfully.
