man i hate the predicament that this religion has put me in.
i love my mom so much and to hear her cry is the worst thing in the world.
it's so frustrating when she thinks that things are so bad b/c i'm dfd.

Same problem with my mum (she and my father are at retirement age). The best arguement she can come up with is "well, it has to be the truth-what else is there?". Over the years, she has adjusted her behaviour to at least "agree to disagree" and we just avoid religious topics when we converse. A partial relationship is better than none at all.

earlier, i wrote, "then and now" on military service and dating practices .
onacruse and alanf encouraged me to do this.
i am 64, so i really do know the religion of the 40's and 50's.
Anybody know the "official" and "unofficial" org. stances on this today? It was extremely discouraged in my day (early eighties).
I had a younger sibling (early nineties) that did play high school rugby (my dad had decided it was better to keep him busy than hanging around with other kids in their local cong. We laugh because our father was so embittered by then with local elder cadre (the majority's "strange" lack of desire to discipline one of their own in regards to his sons' behaviour and the stink he was obliged to kick up right up to the DO level but that's another story) that once, he actually left a Sunday meeting ten minutes early to drive him a game (you'd have to know him to realize what unusual behaviour this was for him)!

my bookstudy was at an elders house that lived a bit out of the city.
a small road with only his house and another.
the other house was the first you passed.....unsightly....trashed cars.......broken down bicycles............not trashy, but not like the bit of paradise at the elder house.. i remember the elder telling us how the man had become ill and lost his job working for the waterworks department, a city job, with little wages.

as a jw, when i'd find out someone got disfellowshipped, i'd shake my head and think, "what a selfish person.
choosing immorality (it had to be immorality) over jehovah.
i hope i never make such bad choices.
Same in my region. Being "DF'd only meant the person was probably "weak" (and it was a punishment administered by the org.). A person who "DA'd" themselves were a "different" matter (rebelliosness was the worst sin anyone could commit).

what's the point i ask you?
here in the uk, it's an unavoidable fact that the majority of people are out at work, shopping etc.
if you really wanted to speak to people, and felt an urgent duty because the 'end is near' why aren't the jws in the shopping centres, streets, and generally where the people are?.

i have been a jw for more than 20 years, but during these past few years i have come to realize that some of the elders and regular publishers are very hypocritical and insensitive.
they have done things that really disgust me.
tare so arrogant that they cannot take any criticism form you.

as i read many posts there seems to be many that "closet" read and it isnt till many months or even years that they actually post something.
was just wondering how long it took other people to post and did they feel guilty?.
No guilt at all as far as joining any discussion forum or debating society
For me it was just a couple of days' worth of surfing and I jumped in. I faded away a long time ago so its more a curiosity thing (and a desire to learn) for me, but the word "apostate" is one that does make me think twice (still!!!!) when deciding whether or not to listen to someone or read their work! So, there is still some "residual porgramming" in there somewhere.
That and the quality of the posters I've read so far led me to jumping in so "quickly". (interesting topic idea, particulary for post departure behaviours for people like me)

i stumbled on this site by accident and i'm kind of glad i did.
in the past i have typically avoided these sites because most people on them seem newly bitter and i didn't like the tone.
i was raised a witness by an alcoholic father and an abusive stepmother.
