i'm not so sure the paper book is dead - there is something tactile about holding it and thumbing through it - how exactly do you flip backwards through an e-book to see if you want to buy it? now do that 20 times and tell me you don't need a bookshop....where is the serendipity in searching for a book title you already know about...? (and yes I get all the reasons why ebooks are great)
we have a few hundred 'real' cookbooks and love to use them - who wants to make a lazy weekend dinner for the family using an iPad? I want to feel the book, see the greasy spots from the last time I made that recipe, perch the book up in its stand - its the whole experience of using MY book that I love.
news media in print = slow death - I get that - even quality papers like The Daily Telegraph need online stores, advertisers, cross-sponsorship deals with supermarkets etc etc to survive - if you want quality journalism then you make a commitment to paying for it on a personal level I guess
there are new startups with new models in the journalism space - but I don't see anybody opening a print newspaper anytime soon...

Letter I wrote to the person the caused me to be disfellowshipped
by jwfacts ina thread on another forum reminded me of a letter i wrote to the person that went to the elders and started the proceedings to have me disfellowshipped.
i stopped believing in the religion when i was 25 but continued going for about ten years.
i finally started to fade at 35, but about 6 months after i had stopped going to meetings, a person wrote a letter to the elders about my website, which at the time was anonymous.

I've been reading Nicolas Taleb's book
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antifragile:_Things_That_Gain_from_Disorder
The concept of anti-fragile definitely applies to disfellowshipping. Although on the face of it, it appears to be a disturbing negative event, and one that JW's believe to be disciplinary in nature - in fact it frequently has a strengthening effect opposite to the intended outcome.
If you have benefited from being DF'd - you are anti-fragile. An attempt to break you has failed AND has improved you as a person.
Thank you Watch Tower :-)
(and thanks Paul - again)

The story is do Jehovah's Witnesses put the interests of the victim, including the right to justice, before the interests of the Watch Tower corporation?
If they truly had the interests of the victim at heart, they wouldn't need a Judge to order them to give evidence.
"did not try to prevent a prosecution" is quite different in meaning to "proactively trying to bring an alledged paedophile to justice"

by pixel inthe outline for the annual meeting with pioneers is out.
it talks about the gb and fds a lot.. look at this:.
those taking the lead have shown that they are not sentimentally attached to material things.. they are willing to move the world headquarters to warwick, new york, because it will advance kingdom interests.

Jesus has placed a weighty responsibility on the Governing Body. That responsibility includes overseeing material assets, the preaching activity, assembly and convention programs, and the production of Bible literature for use in the field ministry and in personal and congregation study
the time-tested scam of converting Jesus into cash and property using the gullible as raw materials for the machine.
I wonder if they might go down the mega-church route in urban areas?
