has anyone ever thought about going to a meeting just for the hell of it?
i mean maybe while out of town, putting on a nice suit.
sitting in the front row, even answering a question.
You've given me an idea. I just started studying with JWs 4 weeks ago and I'm asking some difficult questions, making the elder squirm, but in a superior sort of way.
If I can resist arguing too much when he is so wrong, I could go all the way and start attending KH meetings. Perhaps I could do some real good from the inside. Hey I'm giving this serious consideration.
i'm new here and only studied for 6 months before quitting, due to being told i had to give up my worldly friends so i could "cultivate my christian conscience" i have been reading the posts here and think i made the right decision.

i knew a man named jesus, and i am not talking about jesus christ, this man was a jw from spain, and he was named jesus, apparently jesus is very common in the spanish language, but when i first meet him and he told me his name i freaked out and i had such a laugh, i couldn?t help but think of the funny situations that can come with it.
so i saw him once at the district convention, and i walked up to him and said in a load voice ... ".jesus!

Why would a JW consider mis-use of the name Jesus to be blasphemy. Isn't blasphemy something that can only apply to God? I ask because a JW friend once accused me of blasphemy against the organisation leadership.
very seldom do you hear of a witness feeling like they are satisfied with what they have done in the "truth".
most feel like they "need to do more".
there's all this "urgency" to reach "honest hearted ones" before it is too late.
I'm with Greendawn in this. Their position seems to be that Christianity (a new covenant) is only for a tiny group of people, of which there are only 8,000 alive today, all of whom were (born/baptised) by 1935.
Those bits of the OT that referred to a future Messiah, and all of the NT, were not written for any of us, but only for the anointed. In other words Christ is no business of ours - he died for 144,000 people. He is not our mediator. The self appointed remnant of the 144,000 is our mediator in that we can benefit only by associating with and obeying these, the only Christians.
Even many JWs haven't really grasped what their leaders teach. I find that so hard to understand.

I have just read this thread. I think you are right not to send your original reply. It would make you feel good for a moment, but convince your friend how right he is and how wrong you are. You should take the high moral ground, perhaps consider the type of response someone like Ray Franz would send (he includes some actual correspondence to his uncle Fred and others in one of his books) The bit that confused me however was the bit that links Jehovah's Witnesses with Christianity. Now why would you want to pay them such an undeserved compliment. The JW religion is as anti-Christian as anything I have ever experienced.
I think however, that some reply might be worth considering. Assuming you once believed as your friend does now, please give some thought about what sort of wording would have had the most impact on you, and might have planted the seed of doubt about the organisation.
