Hi frog,
I had same problem opening my first message. The title was so small (hi) that I didn't notice it and was clicking in the wrong place. Look for a heading in small font, right of centre I think.
does anyone know how & where i can post a ms word document which is the letter i have written to my family?
i finally got the guts (yes an aussie) up to send it!
after several drafts, i am finally happy with the copy i have now written.

hi everyone.... i was "raised" as a dub and got baptised in '86...so in total i had been a jw for over 20 years.
i came to realize that the "way of life" i was living was in fact made up of mostly lies.
i started "questioning" the borg about 6 years ago and finally came out with almostatheist last sept. i know in my heart that they are mostly wrong and very legalist.
I believed in God but drifted away for 30 years. The closest thing I got to understanding if there was a God, or why we exist was through the very latest science, which blows my mind at times. Especially as the most up to date theories seem to say there probably is a God of creation after all.
Ironically, it is just since my lovely, & too trusting friends became JWs, that I started reading the Bible again after 30 years. Just to help them escape. This time I read it properly, not hop-skotch (as taught in my teens in a similar sect to JWs). I still have some doubts, but the truth of the Bible is starting to mean a lot to me. The Bible & history of Watchtower prove beyond any doubt that WTS are not what they claim to be. If there is a God, it is not compatible with WTS doctrine.
For me, it is only things like WTS that make me doubt my belief in the Bible. I would be willing to send you files I tried to send my friends, but they rejected them.

I've never been a JW but nearly fainted with shock at my 1st memorial & 1st visit to a KH last week. In the talk the guy pretty much said that unlike all Christians from Pentecost until 1935, we are not under the new covenant (which is the main purpose of the whole Bible) Until Rutherford changed the rules in 1935 all Christians were under the new covenant & went to heaven when they died.
So we are born too late to be saved by Christ's death, we have to rely on the FDS instead. Hey, if they get this wrong, what does it matter if they get anything else right?
to find that the watchtower continued (another) type of u.n. relationship even (after) they disassociated from the (ngo dpi) sections, these are the instructions i was given: 1. go to the home page of (who) world health organization 2. type in these numbers into the search engine at the top: (10184) and click go 3. when the next page comes up, you will receive one pdf listing of information.
click on it.
4. when the pdf file comes up, go to page 3 and you will find that the watch tower of jehovah's witnesses is listed as a (new idp site) and (participant center).
I've never been a JW but recently met a fairly senior one. I mentioned internet & he seemed to suspect I knew something of UN issue. He suddenly started name-dropping about good politicians in touch with JWs (uk & usa) inc Hilary Clinton. Mentioned helping JW brothers in S Korea & Rumania etc. It was weird & possibly preparing for something like this getting out. I haven'y even had my 1st bible study yet! Very strange.
i was sitting in the garden having a beer with my dad this afternoon, it was a beautiful warm spring day, and we chatted away .......it's a good thing, my dad and me haven't always got on.
i think he thinks i'm not the son he held a 3 day party for when i was born, at least i didn't turn out like he'd hoped.
you see he's a mans man.
The Bible makes it clear that more than 144,000 go to heaven. It says that all martyrs go to heaven, and the book of Acts makes it clear there were many tens of thousands in heaven by 70CE. There were about 250,000 very early Christian martyrs. There were certainly more than 144,000 qualified, even before the Book of Revelation was written in about 93CE.
Acts 21:20 NWT (large reference edition) says "thousands" in the text but the footnorte reads: Lit., "myriads: tens of thousands".
Just adding together those in the Book of Acts brings us to more than 100,000. Perhaps we desperately need more "new light" to correct this erroneous teaching.
i already heard one argument on this, that the scripture referred to (proverbs 4:18) in context was actually advice of a father to his son on how during his life he would continue to grow spiritually throughout his life.
but a closer look shows that there is no mention at all of new light, in any context.
it says "but the path of the righteous ones is like the bright light that is getting lighter and lighter until the day is firmly estblished" [analogy: from darkness of the night gradually to the full light of the day?].

The Society's "new" light repeatedly reveals that what they previously taught was false. Until 1980, organ transplants were forbidden, this was either true or false teaching. Then the Governing Body reversed its decision, was this truth building upon truth, or a reversal in doctrine?
Even the old watchtower taught there could be more clarity, or fuller understanding of a teaching, but not a reversal of that teaching.
Sorry if this is obvious, but I'm new to all this, and although I've read that verse several times before, the truth of it just hit me!
ish.
i've been lurking sorta kinda and in the chat a bit, but anyways, i thought i'd formally introduce myself.
not really, but i'm paranoid, so you can call me 'thy.
Hi apathy, a warm welcome.
in your post to me you said.... .
"the wtbts is teaching a truth and a law code that is in direct violation of what jesus taught.." .
alright start a thread that clearly demonstartes that thw wtbts is teaching a truth and a law code that is in direct violation of what jesus taught
Steve
Thanks, I'm starting study with a JW this week, having had an introductory meeting. From what he said to me, this is going to be of great help. Off to study!
many use their avatar as an indication of their personality.. how about your computer screen?
what do you have for a background and does it make a statement about you?.
i like to change mine every week or so.
trying to get my picture to work!

Now that's spooky, I just downloaded a pic of the Plaeides from the web (because this is where Jehovah lives according to the Watchtower) & I just noticed the filename is M45_Russell_big. Is Charles really out there on the other side of the veil, as Rutherford put it, as the seventh (the Apostle Paul being the first) of the special anointed ones?
