I have had this nickname online for over five years. When I signed up at this discussion board I really was looking for fellow JW believers, looking for some new freinds. What I found was something so much better. I became very scared to keep my nic as purplesofa as so many know me online as that and even in person I get called purple, purps, sofa.......
I have a purple leather sofa from Italy. I ordered it and waited for 6 months for it to arrive to the US. At the time it was very expensive and bringing myself out of welfare, no formal education (I became a buyer for a furniture store, and some of my design work was recognized at the International Furniture Market, and some other forms of recognition that was cool at the time.) It is quite old now but at the time it was a huge statement, symbolic of so much.
I gave up a very lucrative satisfying career to be a witness. I gave up my God-given talent, to be accepted by a handful of people on this planet. I gave up someone I dearly loved, without an explanation as to my bowing out. He never knew about my JW religion and the torment I kept inside being disfellowshipped. I will never forget one of the last things he said to me,
"I'm confused."
Everyone has something that this religion has tricked them about. My only explanation is Satan is very clever at deceiving. The pingponging in my head is exhaustive right now.
I am on Chapter 4 of the CoC book. My stomach turns and my head hurts.
I am not ashamed of who I am or my presence here at this site. If anyone I know comes here I would be shocked, and if they get far enough into the site to find me then we probably got some talking to do.
I am sorry for any confusion as I will no longer be using Thinking as a nickname here. This seems so dramatic but under the circumstances.......I think I will be grieving alot of my life as a JW for a period of time. I do not wish to be grieving who I am on top of that.
So this is me on the world wide web......purplesofa. When I would the nick Thinking it is just not me. I mean it is but .......you get the drift!
Greetings to all.
Since you all gave me a nice warm greeting already. It's not really necessary to do it again. I am gonna be around.
this book is fascinating........ciao -

The Myth of Unconditional Love
by frankiespeakin in.
i here this a lot all the time.
i think it is one huge myth,,based on a self-biased view.

I am a bit scared to post my thoughts.......but I have been thinking of this alot lately. In several different circumstances.
First in picking a marriage mate within the org. I rarely ever hear anyone talk much about endearing qualities in potential mates.......ones that last in a person...their character ...the essence of who they are. Like when a job is lost, or they drift away, or get disfellowshipped. They would still be the person you would be married to and obligated to stay with.
So, I find when the JW's are looking they first look for spiritual strength (well that is the suggestion) and then when that fades, the real unconditional love you would need for a spouse is not there. I find it rather difficult to hear over and over the advice the society gives for the commitment of marriage.
I have never once heard....Do you love this person for who they are without all the outside stuff cuz that could all go away. This person could leave the truth. Do you love them enough to stay commited even then? I think then we would be allowed to love differently, yes unconditionally and not so conditionally.
I know this is a bit off from the other posts. After dating several brothers, I find myself saying to my friends. I must love the man, not if he is an elder or pioneer or whatever.
The love must be unconditional. The very essence and truth of who we really are. Does that make sense? -

WTS Leaders strong arm tactics
by doinmypart inwts leaders don't want to give up their authority.
they fear that doing so will give members too much time to think and pursue personal goals at the expense of organizational goals.. but in small ways they are being forced to loosen their grip.
out of one corner of their mouths they say, "voting/blood fractions/certain holidays are a conscience matter" while at the same time tyring to maintain control via strong arm tactics - -.

I have been reading your site for three days now.........like a new internet addict junkie once again. I was actually looking for a real JW site with some ZING after five years of being online corresponding online only with JW's. I find this site very insightful and intelligent and have a truely different idea of those that leave now. In a few short days after reading posts here, I am glad to know what I have been feeling is normal. I could spend hours telling "my story" but would just be the same in bits and pieces of others. But what made me fineally post was how true this post is. I have sat through many meetings thinking I just did not have the right "heart condition" to understand. And how hard is it to repeat a sentence out of a paragraph at the WT studies where's a persons brain? .......It was not like that many years ago, I truely did use to enjoy heartfelt, thought out comments from people, but now they are so unfeeling and automatic and if someone does comment out of the box.......they are usually new and or it is someone visiting from somewhere else. I find it difficult the way we are taught. Even in a book study, it's not like they are going to let us ask a question if we did not quite get a certain point. And.......if we did not understand before the meeting with personal study...I am sure we will get it on our own afterwards????? blah blah blah you are a smart lot of people.......thanks for letting me observe.
