I'm wondering if your grandma was counseled for remaining in contact with you, and they coached her to ask you those questions so the elders can decide for her she can decide whether or not you are "worthy" of continued contact. Pathetic. Did you ask her why the questions & where they came from?

Any new announcements about DF'd/DA'd family members?
by Low-Key Lysmith ini'm really curious, my grandma, who has pretty much been the only family member to check in on me on a regular basis since my dfing, called me about three months ago and asked me a list of questions that sounded like she was reading them off of a teleprompter or something.
the questions sounded really rehearsed.
"do you believe in god?

You might also want to mention the UN fiasco with stuff printed off from the UN's website PROVING that the WTS was an active member for over 10 years.
OP, I think the UN thing is a great topic for your project tomorrow. I don't have much knowledge on this topic, but I heard that the WTS also told the press they never really were members....they just signed up for a library card to have access to the UN library. Yet, apparently, in order to be a NGO, there are application forms that must be submitted and re-submitted to maintain NGO status....not just a library card. In other words, the WTS lied about it!

My thoughts on hating the WTS.
by kwintestal in" i was thinking today about hating the wts, and you know i really do, and for many reasons which i won't really get into here.. on this thought, i imagined the jwd (jesus' wacky discussion forum) website of 2000 years ago.
i'm sure many of jesus' new followers would start threads about having their hands cut off, being stoned and the secret backroom shenanigans of the pharisees.
all there is, is hate here!

I have to agree with Kwin on this subject.
I see no reason in hating. I think the things they have done are wrong, and sometimes outright evil... but, again, in the words of Jesus, "forgive them, for they know not what they do".
First of all, hating is a personal choice. There is no right or wrong about it.
Second, there is a "reason in hating". It is a part of the healing process, not separate from it. Before a person can really heal, they need to acknowledge what happened to them was wrong in the 1st place. When a person doesn't identify jw mental/other abuse as wrong in the first place, the healing process cannot go forward--there would be nothing to heal from, if it wasn't wrong in the first place.
The natural outgrowth of that acknowledgement is anger and hate. Being angry and expressing that feeling is therapeutic and brings on catharsis. The healing process then proceeds after the major anger phase.
The only danger is to get so stuck in the anger and hate that a person cannot move forward to the next step in healing. Some have been so terribly victimized, it may not be possible for them to avoid that. That is understandable.
Another point I would like to make is that forgiveness is not necessary in order to heal oneself emotionally. Acceptance is, forgiveness is not.

Getting your Congregation Record Destroyed
by rebel8 ina while back, there was a discussion about dfing and asking the elders to remove records of yourself ever having been a jw, publisher records, etc.
i responded that i didn?t believe there was a legal basis to force the records to be removed.
i can't find the thread and don't remember who started it....whoever you are, here's some interesting info for you!

upside/down,
But I was told by my RC church that they do not remove the records, they simply take you off the list of parishoners...2 very different things. Baptism records and so forth are not removed. Anyone is legally entitled to create records about someone else and keep them; you can't force someone else to destroy records about you.
That's why I was surprised the jws would be willing to remove all the records. There was a poster on the last thread that said he wanted to have the publisher records destroyed so there would be no record he had ever belonged to the jws. If that's important to him, at least he is afforded the opportunity to have the records destroyed.

It does appear, though, that there is a rule made by the wts that allows records to be removed upon request. Last night, I came across the following quote in the elders? handbook (Pay Attention to Yourselves and to All the Flock, pg. 102):
If a baptized person insists that he does not want to be part of the congregation and requests that his name be removed from all our records, we should comply with his request. Since he takes such an adamant position, encourage him to put his request in writing. If he refuses to do this but states resolutely before witnesses his decision to disassociate himself and not be known as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, the witnesses to his statement would be asked to put this in writing and sign it. In all cases of disassociation, a committee would consider the evidence regarding the matter. If the person has definitely terminated his status as a member of the congregation, the elders will make a brief announcement of his disassociation. (w86 10/15 p. 31 ) The Society should be notified using the S-77 and S-79 forms. He would be viewed as one who has disassociated himself.

I wasn't DFd. Decided I knew it wasn't the troof and wanted out. Stopped going in service and to meetings. Was 18 living w/my jw mom. Mom said I had to go to a JC as a condition of living in her house. (Had $0 to move out with, since she had prohibited me from having any of my own money. All proceeds from my part time job went to car/gas for pioneering and the rest to mom. Good strategy for keeping me under her thumb, huh?)
Went to JC. There was nothing to discuss. They interrogated me...asking me if I'd smoked, had sex, etc. No to all. They said, "We can't DF you because we can't find any scriptural reason to." (said w/a tone of disappointment) Asked me if I want to DA. I said no. They asked why, I said, "No reason." Real reason was I didn't want to give them the satisfaction of making an announcement that I was DAd.

I think no positive thoughts about the wts. I know it's an evil organization and everything they say is either a lie or incorrect.
who has left and gone to another religion, or who is from another religion?
I was confirmed as a RC a few yrs ago. Was RC before being JW, but wasn't old enough to be confirmed before converting to jw. Wanted to be confirmed for several reasons....1, I admit, was so I could get married in the RC church (important to husband)...2 was therapeutic...I felt I had been mean and hateful to the RCs when I was a jw...wanted to make up for that I guess...I also felt that RC confirmation was the ultimate rejection of my jw past.
I don't consider myself RC really though. I don't believe in their view of God, although I do have a lot of respect for the modern day RCs.....My personal beliefs can best be described by: www.spiritualhumanism.org/faq
who is an athiest.
I accept that anything we believe about God existing or not is just a guess, however, I think I'm more agnostic than anything else.
anyone left the jw's changed their mind and gone back?
Nope.
anyone, like me, had a study but not been a jw?
Nope. Was pretty much forced to get baptized when I was 16. 1 yr later I graduated from high school and began the process of leaving the jws. -

Gill, I don't mean to hijack this thread.....
prone to getting beaten by her father with his walking stick if she misbehaves. Apparantly he does the same to her mother.
...but is there nothing that can be done for this poor girl to get her out of this abusive situation? Is there some way she can be helped? Would she visit us here in cyberspace for some encouragement to get out? I got nauseous (yes, literally) when I read that. No one deserves that kind of treatment!

What I remember from 1975
by Big Dog insince i am sort of late to the party this has probably been beaten to death and if it has just kick this thread to the curb.
i was 11 years old in 1975 and i remember being scared silly the whole year.
i mean there was so much hype about it and the tension in the air was so thick it was unreal.

The WTS is a master of making people believe and act in certain ways without explicitly printing it. Sometimes, they print things that read one way on the surface, but which they expect members to interpret totally differently.
You are totally right. Although I think the 1975 issue is one of very few exceptions to that. The 8/15/68 article does say that the End is going to come within days or months of 1975, not years. That is very directly telling people it is going to be in or around 1975.
David2002, Most other issues are difficult to prove, a lesson I've learned all to well. The literature says one thing, taking a less harsh standpoint on an issue. Then you hear the hard line stance from the elders and anyone giving talks or at assemblies. Most of the hard line stuff is said orally, not in writing. The literature hints strongly at it, then ultimately says <fill in an issue here> is a matter of conscience. Elsewhere in literature and orally, the dubs are instructed to not use the "it's a conscience matter" as an excuse to do something....those with the harshest conscience are considered the most spiritual and strongest in the troof. You know all these things if indeed you were/are a jw.
