So Inquirer,
What's your story? Why did you leave the JWs?
i knew about this site ages ago.
and i always thought it was a good site.
there's always an interesting discussion here and there.
So Inquirer,
What's your story? Why did you leave the JWs?
follow this link to see another person's review of their circuit assembly:.

i can re-confirm the following from my weekend.. the district overseer, brother anderson, a very good, folksey speaker with lots of anecdotes, did indeed tell the story about calling on a distinguished british gentleman who turned out to be the retired head of the literature department at oxford.
Supposedly, this individual praised the Kindom Ministry School as the reason why Witnesses are so good at the door to door work, and that people pay $$$ for equivalent training in communications courses at school.
Oh gag me. (I say that a lot about JWs.)
That old, tired saying that they are getting the equivalent of a college education by reading the magazines and doing the ministry school...blech...another JW lie.
I have a Master's Degree, and I'm here to tell ya, it isn't true! Not by a long shot! I learned a million times as much in my 1st year in college than I ever did by all the years of JW brainwashing (which is very different than learning).
if the new testament is only for the anointed, why doe the great crowd get baptized?
Good point!
I think the real reason is to make sure the dubs are doing as many nutty things as possible, so as to set themselves apart from everyone else. More hogwash.
well the news is getting around within the congregations about the awake!
going to a monthly beginning 2006.. some reactions from active jws:.
one sister actually dances a jig.
A brother, "I wonder what they will do with all the new presses. You know the last time they improved the presses, the Berlin Wall came down, maybe this will be the same thing."
HUH?
"Isn't it amazing the Slave always knows what we need?"
...implying that they know magically.....yeah...as if no one TOLD the "slave", they just read the dubs' minds.
is it possible that the jw religion appeals to someone with an adolescent level of maturity, and that people leave it because they simply grow up?
those who are satisfied may be adults in other areas of their lives, but perhaps spiritually they are still adolescents or even children?
My answer to the OP's question is YES, but not in the same way as the other posters.
IQ is only one measure of intelligence. It does not measure much of what we would consider intelligence.
I believe JWs have not yet fully achieved the stages of development described here: http://www.childdevelopmentinfo.com/development/erickson.shtml It is possible for adults to pass through these stages without fully accomplishing them, or to regress. I believe JWs, among other things, have not fully accomplished the developmental stages needed to view authority in a balanced matter, have a strong sense of oneself, be willing to evaluate right and wrong in each situation (rather than accepting a blanket proclamation by the borganization), etc.
my mind is healing.
i know this because i am remembering things that i use to fear.
here are some examples of irrational fears that i had:.
My fear: If I even thought of a question or concern about the JWs (individually, or the borganization as a whole), then the big J would be reading my mind and would strike me dead on the spot.
"to study?".
"i can?t study with you.
) we don?t believe the same things".
Are you DFd, or just a non-JW married to a JW?
How much do I have to dissent to be counted with the undeserving?
The answer to that question is...any dissent is sufficient to be undeserving. Any at all.
.
i hear and read alot about peoples experiences and some are pretty horrendous....does anyone actually feel they have benefited from being a jw at least in one way or another...me personally i feel i benefited from the ministry school as public speaking is part of my job and has definately improved career prospects?.
g
Yes. I learned how NOT to think and how not to act. Whenever I am faced with a dilemma involving social interactions or involving how to critically analyze a situation and problem-solve, I try to determine what I would have done when I was a JW, and do the opposite!
i don't usually go in for conspiracy stuff in fact i'm usually something of a cynic!
however this has me interested!
have any of you seen the documentary "9/11 conspiracy, in plane sight?
I saw that clip, too. Then I Googled the subject and saw an article debunking the entire thing.
i'm thinking through my new position on blood transfusions, and would appreciate your 'pearls of wisdom.
i now feel that, while a blood transfusion is still dangerous, i would accept it as a last resort, if all else failed.
i would not die, or allow any of my family to die, for want of a transfusion of plasma, platelets, or red or white cells.
Yes they are safer. Pretty much "Fractions" are cooked and differented blood thats been washed in detergent.
Fractions, in the sense that's being discussed in this thread, are not always safer. There are many types of fractions and many different levels of purity. If you're thinking of being treated with one of those products, you really need to check out the specific product and discuss it with a hematologist.
Here's an example of products with different degrees of purity: http://www.clevelandclinicmeded.com/medical_info/pharmacy/julyaugust2002/table1.htm
Fractions may be purer in some sense than say, packed red cells. However, keep in mind that each unit of a fraction is made up of blood cells from 1000s of different donors. There are always going to be new diseases discovered. The pasteurization process is effective in killing the bugs we know about, but we can't prove it's effective in killing the undiscovered bugs.
