Festivus - Revisited
by berrygerry ini have been a devout promoter for many years.. sadly, today, of all days, i was forced to re-examine some of the practices involved with the celebration of this holiday.. i was leaving a store, and was stunned to see a festivus pole struck down and abandoned.obviously, this must have taken place at night, and the culprits were hunting poles without a license or permit, and were interrupted at the last moment, and then fled.what a senseless slaughter!how often is this happening?.
and then, i got to thinking.how many festivus poles are left outside - vulnerable?how many of these poles then wander the neighbourhood in search of prospective mates?currently, in my city, there are no by-laws regulating pole mating behaviour.. and poles being poles, baby poles are thereby brought into this world, and tragically abandoned (and in winter, no less).is there a worse sound than a pole cub mewling for its mother?
i think not.. so, festivus people, if you keep your poles outside, please, please, at least have them spayed or neutered.. happy festivus!.

Welcome to the forum.
Am I the only one who finds the story suspect? She says the reason she came forward is because dubs don't lie.
Look, I'm all for a domestic violence survivor standing up for herself and taking credit for her own work.
But...to credit dubs seems so disingenuous. It's just a reason to credit the society where credit is NOT due, and to use the media to witness to others. Nothing more.
- Dubs do not believe in, or teach, that women should oppose men. Yeah, I know he was an evil nonbeliever and all that, but those of you who've been in since the 70s or before must admit there is at least a covert discouragement of this type of behavior. Even for nonbelievers. I have never seen or heard any indication the society encourages women to stand up for themselves in this sort of situation.
- Dubs do not believe in notoriety, putting oneself in a place of fame or adoration, etc. Jesus, we couldn't even say the word 'adorable' because of it. It's creature worship according to their doctrine. I know of exactly zero teachings saying you should speak out to get credit for your work in this situation.
She's just using the society as a prop here. JMHO

Those stupid jw.org cartoons will never be serious competition for Santa.
The tradition began in 1955 after a Colorado Springs-based Sears Roebuck & Co. advertisement misprinted the telephone number for children to call Santa. Instead of reaching Santa, the phone number put kids through to the CONAD Commander-in-Chief's operations "hotline." The Director of Operations at the time, Colonel Harry Shoup, had his staff check the radar for indications of Santa making his way south from the North Pole. Children who called were given updates on his location, and a tradition was born.
In 1958, the governments of Canada and the United States created a bi-national air defense command for North America called the North American Aerospace Defense Command, also known as NORAD, which then took on the tradition of tracking Santa.
Since that time, NORAD men, women, family and friends have selflessly volunteered their time to personally respond to phone calls and emails from children all around the world. In addition, we now track Santa using the internet. Millions of people who want to know Santa's whereabouts now visit the NORAD Tracks Santa® website.

IIRC they don't even call it homosexuality. They call it same-sex attraction to minimize the belief that one must act upon one's sexuality.

Could the allowance of blood fractions be curtailing the growth of the religion?
by Apognophos inso, imagine that you're just a regular joe who's not familiar with the witnesses and is looking for the answers to life, the universe, and everything.
you hear a knock at your door.
before long, you are studying with a jehovah's witness.

What the OP described happened to my family, except it was back when fractions weren't allowed (early 1970s).
They don't tell you the worst things until you're mostly hooked. Manipulative.
What is going through your mind at this point? Isn't just about anyone's BS Alarm liable to be going off at this point?
What happened to my mother is, "But my daughter is hemophiliac and needs fractions weekly right now. She's almost died without it. I can't follow that teaching, knowing she's going to suffer and die." (Let's just remember that bleeding to death is slowly suffocating. It's not a quick or painless death.)
Response from jw: several weeks of cult programming, resurrection to petting zoos, Abraham ready to sacrifice his son, the fact that both of us will be executed and permanently dead at jehoopla's hand for taking blood products, and fake medical facts about taking on the personality of the criminals who were donating blood.
My mother suppressed her logic in favor of this thinking, because she was so eager to be in a group with strict, hard-to-follow rules so she could prove to god how much better she is than the Great Unwashed. She could have had her social status highly elevated if I had died one of the times she tried to sacrifice me.
