OMG Jurs! That's where my daughter and I attended our last meeting. Before settling in Golden, we did a brief stint in Castle Rock, and attended Franktown!!
What a small world, no? Are you still "in"? Hanging, drifting, fully out? What's your story, if you don't mind my asking.

Thank you slipnslider--I just hate to see people hurting and you see so much of that in the ORG. I think if you can cut through walls--organizational and otherwise, adn connect with the one thing WE ALL have in common: our humanness, we can truly communicate. That's what I missed in the org: permission to be human.

Hey, are any of you guys still in Colorado? I myself am in beautiful Golden. I work in Denver.
My Pet Peeve:
the utter lack of love. How the elders' wives and kids usually act so piggish, rude and elitist. Although, I understand and honestly have sympthy for the fact that they suffer and develop this psychosis out of neglect. However, they seem bent on spreading their misery to the minions. i.e., when I reassured my then 6 year old daughter not to worry when we moved away from friends and family because Jehovah's peole had friends no matter where they went in the world. After our first meeting at our new cong., my daughter exuberantly announced that she was going to meet her new friends! She returned crushed a few minutes later at having been snubbed by 2 little elder twits. I know it must have been quite overt, as my daughter is very gregariuos and at times can't take a hint. I never went back, adn will never ask her to choke down that brand of "love" again. She told me not too long ago "Mom, we're so much happier than when we were witnesses". Out of the mouths of babes.
I jsut feel sad for all those that are left. Even the poor over worked, neglected elders' families who know not what they do. My mother, who's still a dub, assured me not too long ago that the ORG stays on top of all this internet stuff, spying, etc. I said, great! I love speaking for those who can't speak out for themselves. So, if there are any elders trolling about, PLEASE, I mean this in all sincerity: go hug your kids. Go buy your wife roses for no reason. Maybe they'll feel inclined to give off a little warmth and a kind word to a new or discouraged face at the next meeting. The world is my country and to do good, my religion.--Thomas Paine

Organized religion- Good or bad?
by Vitameatavegamin inhello again friends,.
i have recently been pondering some over some thoughts on organized religion.
the jws always refer to other religions as part of babylon the great, in which we should flee from.

"Truth is a pathless land, and you cannot
approach it by any path whatsoever, by any religion, by any
sect." ~~Krishnamurti
I beleive we, as a species are evolving past our need for organized religion. I began to realize this upon my exit from the cult. I got to meet people of all kinds, and different thoughts, etc. I found that the ones I gravitated to most to were new agers and athiests. Athiests, most especially because they are good for the simple sake of being good-a sense of citizenship, and not out of fear of some angry, judgemental god. Whereas on the other hand, my fundamentalist friend seems to really NEED the laws written out in her little black book and to have those pounded into her head every Sunday. I've wondered if she'd be the least bit moral without them (she's barely containable when we go out but always feels sooooo guilty for it the next day). Hmmmmm.
I myself am nothing religiously. Then again I am everything. I am as comfortable at the Catholic Chapel in the hospital where I work as I am at a Wiccan Sabbat. I think I could even sit through a boring old meeting again (purely for the anthropoligical study it would provide) :)

The scariest Place on Earth........
by spike inno, i'm not referring to the borg palace in n.y. i was watching the tv show where they select a family to spend a night roaming around a haunted island, castle etc.
now if the god/devil concept isn't right, what causes the energy forces to scare the hell out of those people?
if this was discussed before, bear with me i'm a newbie trying to figure out what to believe.. never give up, and never under any circumstances, face the facts-r.gordon

Okay, I'll try posting again. This is just my two cents, and in no way is an expert opinion on the matter. I believe there are certain energies in the universe. Christians (and other pluralists) have broken these down into Dark and Light/ Good and Evil. If they can't understand something, they tend to place it in the "evil" or scary category. In the case of the "scariest places", I have to agree with the previous poster who felt that it was exacerbated by the power of suggestion. But if there are earthbound spirits in that place, I believe it to be the residue of people's psyches that were so brutalized there that a portion of "them" go timprinted there. Their essences, I believe have gone on. However, like a photograph, or hologram, some residual energy remains to "tell" their gruesome stories.
As I said that is just my two cents. I watched the first half of the show until I couldn't stand it anymore (the guy harangueing the poor guy who couldn't stop his nervous laughter) It was just a little too silly. But an interesting concept.
Just two cents from Bridgette (who believes very much that there is a scientific explanation for EVERYTHING--even if it turns out to be stranger than fiction) -

by ballistic indoes anyone know of any ex-jw get togethers in the uk?
anything from a pint down the pub to our own convention?.
i would really like to meet up with other ex-jw's, not necessarily to discuss religion.

<<However, I dont think that many UK posters are interested in Xtian style meetings, after all, compared to the Yanks we are a pretty godless bunch.>>
How can I immigrate to the UK? :)

Greetings all! New here. Breif Hx: I grew up in the "truth". Completely out for over two glorious years. For the most part, I keep busy getting on with and the most out of life. However, every once in a while I feel a "pull" to be with "my kind"--that is the only people on the face of this planet who can relate to the strange, weird, hellish world I came from--so I lurk about places such as this.
Anyway--I'm VERY curious about this Dateline program that is (if I understand correctly) going to highlight the covering over of pedophilia in the congregations. BTW, does anyone remember how BADLY the "SOCIETY" dogged the Catholic Church when it was going through something similar? Extra helping of KARMA, WTBS?The world is my country and to do good, my religion.--Thomas Paine
