Do you truly WANT the Watchtower to collapse? If so why?

there are the abuses of course, the diabloical 'two witness' rule applied to allegations of molestation, the reckless 'blood ban' in all it's tortuous complexities (which by watchtowers own admission has resulted in many fatalaties) and the cruel punishment of shunning which has caused so much suffering and pain to many of us here.. is it for these reasons that you want to see the watchtower fall or is it simply that you want to see them humiliated and broken for what they've done to you?

most of us aren't bitter or selfish enough to want personal revenge against the watchtower but i'd be lying if i said i didn't sometimes think like that.. the reason for my original question is that i sometimes feel a bit hypocritical.

i try to accord respect to jw's and individuals of all faiths, (yes, even when i go off on one of my atheistic diatriabes) but whereas i allow myself to be hostile to the watchtower i shrink from being so forthright against other 'christian' faiths whose corrosive nature may not be so easily apparent but is there nonetheless.. i guess my question is; why do we want the watchtower to fall but do not wish all religion to fall?.

Some, when having overcome cancer themselves, are willing to just dismiss all others who suffer from the disease, since they are in remission. Others devote life and energy to the eventual elimination of the disease that so negatively altered their lives. Which is the noble action in your opinion?

If by naive you mean telling it like it is then I prefer to be naive rather than bitter and miserable. The only difference between your example is that those people usually want and need the help. Those that are still in this cult most don't want help and aren't asking for help. They are on it because they want to be in it. You can call it brainwashing, or stupidity but the fact is that if they wanted to leave all they had to do was leave and nothing else.

Bottom line, call me naive or lazy I don't care about trying to change peoples minds who don't want to change in the first place. Now, if they were to show signs of wanting to get out of course I would help. Otherwise I won't turn into a bitter person just because I can't change their views over the wts.

Bitter? You bet I'm bitter! And it's because it's personal! Yes, they are just one of many evil groups out there...But THEY are the ones who broke up my family. I'd be just as pissed if it were Moonies or Mormons..but it wasn't. It was the only true religion chosen by Jehovah's son Jesus to show everyone else how wrong they are. F*ck you and f*ck them.

LOL, you're even bitter and angry at me over a simple post in this forum. Calm down, your bitterness and your anger will not change a thing. It will not make your family come back magically from the WTS. You're just making yourself miserable along the way.

Learn to live with it, that's what most do. If you can't then I feel sorry for you, because while you sit typing on your keyboard acting all angry and screaming profanities at me, I'm living my life without worries about what some stupid cult might do or not do. So what if they have your family, your family is in it because they beleive in it and there's not much you can do for them. Hopefully they open up their eyes soon, but its really up to them.

we are all doomed to death, i think by the end of this year too, so we dont have long .

i heard that the work is going to stop, that would be kindof nice here since it is so cold in the winter and knocking on doors waking people up is really lame in the first place, i often wondered why we had to hit the streets so early and make people so angry?.

well supposely this new track is hitting him where it hurts, they are out right telling people they are going to die at the hands of god if they do not join up with the jws right now.

I saw somewhere on this forum where the km(?) or Watchtower (?) for January that is coming out in December is giving "the time of the end " again, but maybe not actual dates, just "soon", "rapidly approaching" "near", and shite like that.

It's always been like this. Nothing has changed nor will it change. Ten, twenty years from now, they will still be preaching how the end is near and we are living in the last days.

Yep, extremely bitter and angry from most of the responses here so far. Oh, and your family or whoever is in it isn't held hostage against their will. They are in it because they want to be in. The sooner you realize that the better for you.

I understand being angry because family members are in it. My mother is still in it, I have an uncle and some cousins still in it. But they are in it because they want to, not because someone is holding them hostage.

Well, looking at a high percentage of posts here it seems that bitterness and personal revenge is a big reason why most want the WTS to collapse.

I'll admit it, when I first got out of their clutches I was mad, bitter and maybe angry. But now thinking back I just say to myself, I don't beleive I let them do that to me. Because that's what it basically boils down to, you letting them do what they want with your life. All I had to do when presented with a stupid rule or something that I didn't want to follow was say no.

But now, I don't really care, and I don't wish them to collapse. The past is gone, nothing I can do about that, now I just live my life without worrying about what somebody else might say or think about me. Holding a grudge or bitterness can be worse in the end.

there are also a few elders and ministerial servants sick of the nonsense too, so liberate them also.

Yes, a national registry for sex offenders would work. I beleive most states already have something like this in place. I know I've seen one for the states I've visited. And I must add that this list is not only for JWs, this list is for everyone to search. You'll be surprised how many sex offenders you will find that live around your neighborhood.

Beards, when were they banned?

i know it has been talked about before, but does anyone have information as to when jw started banning beards.

my wife is telling me that it started in the 60/70's because of the hippies, but i know i read somewhere on here that it was much earlier.. .

This goes to show how different congregations interpret things differently. I was in both types of congregations. One congregation I attended, having a beard was no big deal and many brothers had beards. Then I moved to a different congregation and it was frowned upon, if you had a beard you could not have any privileges. Same thing with everything, it was always up to some overzealous elder to put his foot down and decide what goes and what doesn't in the congregation, instead of what the WTS said.

Maybe this will explain it:

I'm sittiing in my apartment one day and smell something like propane. I pick up the phone and call the superintendant who says, Yes there's a terrible gas leak! For God's sakes... get out of the building NOW!!! Your brother is already dead from the fumes and the whole place could go up any minute!!
I grab my wallet and race out the door. At the stairs, I pass my lifelong friend who asks, "Where ya going in such a hurry?" I reply, Nowhere, just gonna go outside for a while. In the lobby a see a couple of people discussing the gas smell... they Say hello as I pass and I smile and nod back at them. On the way out the door, I have to pause as a group of people that I had never seen before are heading inside... luckily, I squeeze past them and run across the street.
Once there, I meet another person that I knew from the 3rd floor, They too had called the super and got the warning. So there we stood, discussing our day, Talking about how terrible the coming disaster would be, and sharing our stories of how much we never really liked living in that building anyway....with all it's stupid rules and tenant committees.

6 million people live in that building... a lot of them are my family.

So basically you're doing the same thing the jws are doing. Preaching what they think is the truth. Good luck to you. As for me I will live my life without getting into other people's lives. Everyone chooses what they want to do. I'm not going to push my beliefs into others, I don't want to do the same thing they are doing.

I still think it won't be effective. Lets think about it, there's millions of dubs around the world doing their 'preaching' work. Now this plan presented in this thread will be excecuted by how many, 2 - 5 forum members? Ok, it doesn't take a genius to see who's more effective. I liked the other ideas better, like a website, or something more visible than just stalking jws while they go out preaching.

I mean who cares? Am I going to follow every single person that belongs to some group I don't like, just to scorn them? Deep down we all know that's one of the reasons why we might think of something like this. Just to show them how wrong they are and how right we are. In my case I think its better just to move on with your life and stop getting caught in silly things like this.

If you want to go preaching against the dubs, just go on your own time and follow your own territory. It will make you look less crazy with the home owners.

Just put yourself in the shoes of the homeowners. Most of them already don't pay attention what the dubs say anyways, but now after they dealt with them, here you have another person coming and knocking in your door to dispute what the previous one said. So now the homeowner who might already be irate from answering the door has to come back again and listen to some more propaganda from another person. I just don't get it, but everyone has their free will to do whatever they choose to do, so if you go ahead and do this let us know how it goes. Just seems like a waste of my time.
