Bob Dylan
Bob Dylan's dead? ... let me check.... (seriously, I'm checking right now)... argh... IE is so slow, i should've opened firefox...
Whew, he ain't dead.
it's sad but it's true, when an artists death occurs, they often become more famous post humously ( after they've died ), than the fame they experienced when they were alive.
two that immediately come to mind for me are,
a. stevie ray vaughn (legendary blues guitarist)

just a thought.... looking through the greatest man book, something just occurred to me which i can't recall has ever been highlighted (but please correct me).. i always thought it a bit strange that jehovah allowed the three pagan astrologers to find jesus especially as they were obviously guided to him by satan's star (remember they were led to herod first who wanted to kill the messiah).
what purpose did it serve?.
well, a few pages earlier in tgm book, we see mary presenting a dove as a sin offering at the temple - this was the cheapest offering that was acceptable which must have meant that they were pretty poor at the time.. shortly after the three wise men visited the family had to flee to egypt when herod started to kill all the young boys in an attempt to kill jesus.. what would they need to travel and live as exiles for a couple of years?.
NECROMANCY!!!! Careful, or we'll turn out like Russell.
so napster is now charging 14.95/month for membership services, and its basicly, download all you can and want to in that month.
however, the files are wma files protected by digital rights management.
meaning, as soon as you stop paying for the napster service, they stop working.
This is the law in Canada: http://www.cbc.ca/news/background/internet/downloading_music.html
The ruling stipulates that:
- Downloading a song for personal use is not an infringement.
- Placing a song in an on-line music-sharing directory such as Kazaa is not considered distribution.
just read a thread about a child born with two heads and read some, well meaning but disturbing posts... .
here is the question: .
you and your spouse are expecting...a test is available that will reveal if your unborn child may have a physical disability... .
What's the difference between this and eugenics? If we allow babies to be aborted because of physical or mental dysabilities, how does this make us any better than the Nazis?
The thing about the book is that quite a few people take it seriously and the author fuels "speculation" by saying that certain things are true when there is no proof. This is what gets a lot of Christians in the US mad, though its just a book, eh.
And I read Focault's Pendulum too. It was pretty good, but its a bit confusing at the start and later it makes so much sense.
one of the latest announcement letters from the wts is that people should attend special.
classes setup for the purpose of preaching to foreign language communities.
these special classes are.
They have been giving Pioneers? and Special Pioneers? "bonuses" like this for ages. Pioneers? and Special Pioneers? have been allowed to count Field Service Hours? whenever they Volunteered? at Circuit Assemblies? and District Conventions? - do you think the Pioneers? would have been Volunteers? any other way??
Makes you wonder how much time is actually spent "preaching," especially considering that the main hour earners are the "Pioneers." Include lunch and coffee breaks and how much is left?
Well, anyway, less JWs in FS = good thing.

this is the headlines that should ber facing the wt organization!

In the Eastern Catholic rites, priests are allowed to get married before they are ordained. It is only in the Latin Church where this is not so.
The real problem is that for the past few decades the people in charge of the seminaries chose to admit many people who didn't have any sexual interest in women (big mistake). These things are detailed in Michael Rose's book Goodbye, Good Men, which was on the New York Times Bestseller list.
in my school the two jw kids sat out of assemblies and i always wondered what they got up during that time.
i always wanted to have the courage to say i had religious objections to assemblies but to be honest i just hated siting cross legged on the wooden floor for ages.
anyone experience sitting out assemblies (or whatever your school equivelant is) and what did you do?
This is a little off topic too, but I remember back in Gr. 9, our Jazz Band went on an trip for a few nights to Nanaimo for the Kiwanis Jazz Festival. Now I was not going to meetings at this time, but there were two JWs who were also on the trip (actually, pretty nice people). Well one of them had a mom who could only be described as a super JW. She made sure her son only stayed a day and when they were finished playing, she drove all the way to Nanaimo (which includes a ferry trip) to pick him up and take him home. He wasn't made fun of by other people like most JWs would expect, but everyone felt sorry for him.
Personally in assemblies that were non-holiday, I just didn't sing the national anthems (God Save the Queen at the start and O Canada at the end -- in the late 1990's). But in the holiday ones I just had to wait outside at the office, which was a throughly embarressing experience. Now that was elementary school. In Grade 8 @ Secondary, I was pseudo-JW, not doing holiday stuff especially for concerts, but by Gr. 9 I was doing all the holiday stuff and having fun doing it. Then in Gr. 10, I got to do all the Mayday Songs like Amo Amos, that chesnut song, the Coronation March by Meyerbeer, and the National Anthems.
could someone please tell me when the date for the memorial will be this year?
Thursday March 24th
That's the one. After sundown.
this is one of the things i never understood as a jw.
i was told that jws were not superstitious people.
as followers of the true god jehovah, we weren't to give in to false beliefs, even if others were practicing them.
Then the JW would have to call Jehovah's name out loud to overcome the curse.
This has to be one of the biggest JW superstitions ever. You'd think that they think that its a magic word.
They don't take part in common "superstitions" or what used to be superstitions because they just want to be different. The more they are different, the more they isolate themselves, The more they isolate themselves the more faithful the "flock" will be to their "shepherds."
