Y'know the generation I grew up with had names more in line with one's ethnic background rather than biblical names, so I always found it surprising.

Names given to children
by the_classicist inwhat i've noticed, is that there seems to be a lot of recent jw parents who make sure to name their kids by some hebrew/biblical name.
so now you have kids running around w/names like ezekiel, reuben, isaiah, etc.
there were also a few strange names that i'm sure some of these kids would've been made fun of because of it.. have any of you noticed this?

Early prediction of Jackson trial
by freedom96 ini think hung jury.
second choice, found not guilty.. this family is going to get pummeled in court.
the kids 18 year old sister is already not looking credible on the stand, let alone the mom, and the two brothers.. they will be shown without doubt to be greedy, money hungry liers.

I have to say that Michael Jackson is one of the few celebrites, who I never met, that I hate. He's a freak by his own choice, yet he is adored by legions of fans willing to believe whatever he says. His money and his fame will get him out of this case.

The British NHS........ What is your view?
by ScoobySnax inthe nhs is a hot issue at present with the forthcoming uk elections pending in may, both main parties are trying to monopolise the issue of our health service.
it is a unique service where faults of course can be found (as in the current news story) but having worked and given my best for the last 15 years in it, i feel proud of it.
what experience do you/have you had of the nhs?

NHS sounds like Canada's heath care system. Some of the big problems we have here are surgery and specialist waiting lists, full emergency rooms, lack of long-term care beds (which makes the ER situation worse), and aging equipment.
I think the British copied our system (or the other way around), so I would suspect that the problems are the same. Once I had to wait 4 hrs. in an emergency room to my broken wrist taken care of. Although, whenever I get severe migranes I get in much faster. Migrane drugs don't work for me, and I would have to take an overdose of Advil to have some kind of relief, which some doctors suggested, but other level headed ones discouraged. The only drug that worked for me was an anti-sea sickness drug and the first time it was given to me was through an IV. Another time, I went when they were busier and they gave me a shot of this drug (not as effective), so they gave me demerol. And a third time they were even busier and they just gave me a tonne of morphine.
The care with GPs and specialists are very good, it just seems that the emergency services are really screwed up here.

I wouldn't go back. Like you, I left for good, plus, I like thinking too much.

How Far Would You Have Gone To Prove Your Loyalty To The Organization?
by minimus inwould you have not taken a transfusion?
would you make sure that your child was deprived of one, too?
would you have turned in your own family member to the elders?..........just how far would you have gone in showing allegiance to the cult?

I can be a pretty selfish person so I don't really know how far I would've gone (I definitely didn't spend much time in FS). And I wouldn't drink the red punch either.

Any Smallville fans out there?
by New Worldly Translation ini'm a big fan of smallville but i feel the series needs a kick of adrenaline.
some of the episodes are more like a teen drama mixed with an dash of scooby doo.
all the sexual tension between clark, lana, lex, chloe does keep me glued to the series though.

No, never been asked to be an extra, but a friend of mine, she's been in a few movies (minor roles, not an extra) and a Brittney Spears commercial.
Y'know I've never seen a killer whale in nature, only at the Vancouver Aquarium and I think the last one there was moved. So now there's only a dolphin and I think three beluga whales in the whale tanks.
BTW, technically its not a monorail, as it has two rails, but no conductor. If you haven't been on it in a while, they expanded the line and they put new cars on (though they haven't replaced the ugly old ones).
Just so you know, though, Kristen Kruek, in real life, is quite stuck up (or so I've been told by people who went to high school with her). And in a few months or a year you should see a scene in which there's a car chase with lost of bullets (they made a lot of noise that night, but the light from the spotlights is much worse ).

The KH I was raised in had windows, except they put those tacking, looking glass blocks in (the ones which you can't see through). Y'know, if they had more windows, they could save money on lighting.

"Music That Debases"
by xjw_b12 inthis was triggered by what bem said in angarhad's thread about the george benson cd.
does anyone remember that talk given at the district conventions in the mid 70's.
do you recall the next day, how we were all telling each other about how many lp's we destroyed?.

Wow, nothing like that when I grew up. The big no-nos were concerning what you read or what you saw on TV.
Anyways, we all know rock attained perfection in 1975.
