i dont know if you guys noticed or not.
but there is a general consensus among my friends and some witnesses that i talk to that there is something almost inherently wrong with californian witnesses.
(i'm on the east coast) .
I attended a congregation in California for about a month and everyone there seems pretty straight-laced.
Growing up in Maryland I heard several stories about wife swapping. There was even an incident where several couples were involved and they had the whole thing on video tape! The elders of course had to review all of the tapes to see what sins were being committed.

You only have to consider the limo's in NY.
Do the governing body members ride around in limos? I'm shocked, I always heard how humble they were. I remember when Fred Franz graced our assembly hall with his magnificent presence and everyone was talking about how humble he was for arriving in a regular car. Of course, no one said anything about the 15 member posse he had traveling with him.

My brother-in-law is a complete alcoholic. He drinks constantly, has huge parties and gets smashed. We house sat for him one time and found whiskey bottles hidden all over the house. We even found one stashed in the water closet.
He would never be counseled for it because he is friends with all the right people and DFing him would mean that the JWs would no longer be able to enjoy the big parties at his luxurious home.. Whatever congregation he goes to, he always manages to become best buddies with the elders. Of course, most of his elder friends are alcoholics too.

the conductor states that he used to have a 1948 magazine (watchtower ofrawake!
is unknown) that quoted a scientist that had discovered "blue crystals" on mount carmel.

raymond franz was a member of the governing body and was a jw for many years till he left.. he wrote a book which provides a great insight into jw's but what is really good about it is he isn't bitter when he comes across and so far i am really enjoying the read.. also in there are copies of letters sent from him to the society or the other way around and i recommend anyone who can find it should read it!.

Make sure you check out Ray's other book too. It's called In Search of Christian Freedom. That one is actually my favorite of the two.

My husband and I were both touched by his sincerity and humility. If he had been bitter and vengeful I doubt his book would have had the impact that it did. I truly admire the man.
What disgusts me is that my older daughter knows I have a serious disease and yet in spite of Christ's message being one of love and forgiveness my wife and I are treated as though ;we don't exist. How can a child ignore a parent with a serious illness? Just shows what a heinous, mind-controlling cult Watchtower is. Nothing Christian about it at all!
I'm so sorry that your daughter treats you so badly. I get so upset when I hear of children who have wonderful parents and mistreat them so badly. They have no idea how lucky they are. My father used to hit me, punch me, throw me into walls and tell me he hated me. I see no problems with shunning a parent who abuses you but shunning someone over a difference in religion is cruel and inexcusable.
Just remember, JWs aren't Christians. So I guess we can't expect them to act like they are.

No, you can be guilty of gluttony, greed and materialism and still be in good standing in the congregation.
I know two elders that would fit that description. They were very wealthy, hired JWs and then treated them like slaves. We had a couple people in our hall that would roll up to the meetings in a Mercedes Benz and designer suits. One thing I have noticed about JWs is that the ones that have it, love to flaunt it.
