I always thought it was ridiculous that they didn't have some sort of Sunday school. I was expected to sit still but I was allowed to read the Bible Story or Great Teacher books. Non-JW books or games were forbidden. During assemblies, my older cousin used to make up theocratic puzzles, games and word searches for me. I must have been pretty good because I don't recall ever getting punished for not paying attention.

Children at the meetings, how did you cope
by Mrs Smith inmy son was about 5 years old when we stopped going to the meetings.
the other day i asked him what he remembers about them (his now 14 years old).
he remembered the puzzles i bought him to play with during the meetings.. he remembered that i packed a sandwich and some juice for him to eat in case he got hungry.. when he got board i use to take him outside for a walk around the kh garden.

OK EVERYONE.... WHEN DO YOU HANG YOUR CHRISTMAS LIGHTS???
by Lady Liberty inhello again.... ok..i have the christmas bug already, and am wondering when everyone actually puts up all the clips and hang their lights?
i understand traditionally lights go on the day after thanksgiving...right?
so...my question is do you start that day or weeks before so you can sit back and enjoy the lights getting flipped on the day after thanksgiving??

The first year I celebrated I put the Christmas tree and lights up after Thanksgiving. Last year, I put them up right after Halloween. Why go through all the trouble just to have them up for a couple weeks? I had quite a display. An outdoor Christmas tree with lighted presents around it, two animated reindeer, the driveway was lined in candy canes and big lighted snowflakes hanging in all the trees. The JWs must have really enjoyed it because they kept driving by real slow. ;)
I put my Jack-o-Lanterns up right after Canadian Thanksgiving (Oct. 8). I'm really excited because I live in a big subdivision and the neighbours told me that they had over 200 kids last year. We used to live in the boonies and hardly had any Trick-or-Treaters. We even went out and got our puppy a witches costume so she can help hand out the candy. -

Exciting announcements at service meeting
by truthseeker inwe've already had a post on this, but there were other interesting comments.. the brother giving the announcements said that there would be a new understanding of jesus' reference to the generation as discussed at the annual meeting.. an elder giving a service meeting part review of different watchtower articles from the current year brought out the new light concerning 1935.. he asks: "when is the sealing of the anounted ones?".
elder answers: "there is no specific date".
later after the meeting, i asked an elder if the new understanding of the remnant now meant that younger people could go to heaven.. he answered with an affirmative "yes" and that we would be getting the new understanding of the generation jesus spoke of in a future 2008 watchtower.. .

This is hilarious. My husband and I are now Christians and my mother-in-law recently asked us what we believe will happen to us when we die (since we no longer attend the Kingdom Hall). He told her that we believe that we are going to Heaven. Of course, she responded with a gasp and eye-rolls.
I wish I could see the look on her face when they make this announcement at her hall. Maybe we should call her and tell her that we've seen the light and now realize that we are of the Anointed. ;) -

IF.....
by AK - Jeff inthe jw's brought doctrine into a form you could tolerate, reformed the religion to allow better tolerance of those who disagree, and made prolific apology to those whom it has hurt [i know that some have been hurt that are not any longer with us, etc.
that's not my point.
], would you forgive them, and if you still believe in god, would you consider going back?
-
Saoirse
With God's help, I've already forgiven them. But even if they became mainstream Christians, I still wouldn't return. Too much bad history. Besides, I'm quite happy with the church that I attend now and see no reason to leave.

New Generation Understanding
by momzcrazy inhello everyone, i am new here and newly freed from the snare of wtbs.
my sister, also newly freed, said our mom told her at the annual meeting there was a new "understanding" on the generation confusion.
it is now the annointed that will not pass away.. has anyone else heard this?

Saoirse
Welcome and congrats on being freed.
My husband and I quit attending after the 1995 generation change. That wasn't the reason we left but it was the straw that broke the camel's back. -

Have a wonderful time! My husband and I are planning to attend next year's convention. I will definitely pray for you to have a safe journey.
By the way, I think you may have sent something to my inbox a while back but when I tried to open it, nothing was there. I moved and haven't been online for awhile and I just now remembered it. It might not have been anything important but I wanted to mention it in case it was. -

It makes me sad to see Ray Franz looking this feeble...

It's wonderful to see Ray Franz traveling around the world at his age. My father-in-law is 75 and we can barely get him off the couch.
Are those fellow ex-JWs with him at the airport? They look so happy. That one man is grinning like a Cheshire cat. If I ever met Ray I'd be doing the same thing.
Ray has helped so many people and my husband and I have nothing but the deepest admiration and respect for him.
