mst, duane floyd checketts, 77 died in his sleep due to complications from pneumonia.
he is survived by his wife bette and two children, douglas checketts, patty smith, and 8 grandchildren.. duane, who was fondly called duke by everyone who knew him was born in farmington, utah on march 8, 1924. his father floyd, was one of 10 children raised in a tiny house built by his own mormon father who immigrated in the early 1860's from birmingham, england.
I haven't been around long enough to know you, but my heart goes out to you. I think that in this post, you have captured the lives of so many of our fathers, and I think we can all identify with the grief that you so eloquently express. Thank you. Please know that you will be in my thoughts.

not counting your personal regrets, what was the greatest waste of life and talent you ran across in the organization.. i have 2:.
1. a guy who was a brilliant grand master chess player who gave it up when he became a witness.. 2. a beautiful young lady that i dated (the last i dated) who gave up a scholarship to julliard school for music to study opera and who was working as a bank teller.. can people be prosecuted for murdering dreams?.

My own. I have been writing music since I was 4 years old, but the only ones who ever heard any of it were "the friends" at gatherings. I would always hear how wonderful I was, and wouldn't it be great if I could write a Kingdom Melody .... Now there is a body of work that I would like to be connected to ..... You do recognize sarcasm when you read it?

Thank you all for your kind words. Bill, you made me cry. I do not want to lose all contact with my family. I don't want to sue and find out for sure which side my family will chose to support. I don't want to know for sure that their loyalties lie with this group and not me. Deep down, I know that their love is conditional, I just don't want to force them to prove it. The truth is that I love them very much and will no matter what.

Actually, I havent been active for years. I have to much integrity to even pretend to make converts. But I have managed to not be df'd and that is the step that scares me.

for some the memory may be too painful, but i'm curious.. me.
it was 1966 in vancouver, bc.
Frankfort, KY. October 8, 1983. I was baptized by my Father. It was the first time I had ever seen him cry. The second time was as he was refussing to walk me down the aisle. You see I married a "non believer".

I have survived more than 14 years of abuse, left the "borg", married a man that is amazingly supportive and NOT a JW, sought counseling and recovery, given birth to a newborn baby boy ...... every one of which has required courage and intestinal fortitude. But for some reason, whenever I try to tell my story, or even think about joining in the lawsuits, I feel my blood freeze. What is it? Why can't I take that last final step? Am I the only one who has experienced this? Am I the only chicken out there?
