There is a real spirit of complacency or 'anything goes' in the congregations these days. What really kicks you in the teeth when you step back from things and analyze is how much the meetings are all the same but are so different somehow than they used to be.. the subtle things. Its really obvious that that hope isnt even real for a lot of them. Its just a social club. They arent allowed 'worldly' friends so they really don't have anything else. They just don't know any different and don't even want to learn, or are too scared to. Its so sad.

An Apostate Myth
by nicolaou inhaving read both of ray franz' books and more recently 'the gentile times reconsidered' by c. o jonsson you'd be forgiven for believing that losing the 607 b.c.e date for the destruction of jerusalem would end in disaster for the society.
sorry but i just don't think so.. i'm sure many of the long-time witnesses who know the history of the society would truly have problems but most of the dubs just don't care!
think about it, remember all those dubs you used to hang out with.

The Moral Bankruptcy of the Governing Body!!!!!!!!!
by frankiespeakin in.
do you feel the gb is morally bankrupt?
to lie to those that put great trust in them is a sign of moral bankruptcy.

At the past district convention this summer we had a member of the GB give the closing talk. He spoke with a think Scottish accent and had an overly gentle stage demeanor.. I can't remember his name. Anyways.. man if he does not sincerely believe that junk than he must be the antichrist himself and a DAMN good actor.

: Killing off inocent children, how barbaric.
I remember a speaker at a district convention two summers ago mentioning something about this. He talked about how some people found it hard to fathom that God could 'bring an end to' (KILL) children in the upcoming Armageddon. To convince the audience that this was not really inhumane he related a recent news story of some ten year old kid that shot his parents to death. He then said that as the world continues to get worse in these 'last days' we could expect to see the madness and evil in children continue to get worse.
I couldnt believe what I was hearing. I looked over at the couple I was sitting with with a shocked expression on my face, mouth gaping open. They were just placidly staring ahead, soaking it all in.

'Who Wrote the Bible' - terrific book!
by GetBusyLiving ini bought the book 'who wrote the bible' by richard friedman.. wow!
this guy is a really respected scholar, not some crackpot-prediction-making jackass.
as a typical jw, i didn't know much about how absurd the idea of moses writing the first five books of the bible really is.

The reason I said that Friedman is a respected scholar is because I've read a lot of reviews of his book and that seems to be far and away the general consensus. I don't really know how else you would go about proving someone is a 'respected scholar'.. he's a Harvard grad.. been in the field for a long time..
I never quoted anything about a 'human aspect' or whatever, one, you have me mixed up with another poster.
As far as giving a synopsis goes I wouldnt want to do that since I haven't finished the book. Maybe someone else would like to do that though, that would be cool.

What are the WTS leaders planning?
by doinmypart inwhat are the wts' long term (5+ years) and short term (up to 2 years) plans?.
the leaders know the end isn't right around the corner despite what they tell the r&f.
otherwise they would not have built patterson and purchased new presses.. the leaders are faced with mounting problems: declining statistics in developed countries, the internet, lawsuits, etc.
