Do ever think that the internet and boards like this are our modern day "fruit of knowledge of good and bad"
Seriously, our eyes have been opened up and we do now know both sides to the story. Why withhold knowledge from people?
god told adam and eve not to eat of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
if this were the only venue through which they could understand the difference between good and evil, how could they have known that it was wrong to disobey god and eat the fruit?.

just to say hello.
been lurking awhile.nice site!
will tell my story real soon.
Welcome!!!
i posted here a bit a while back.
quick background- df-ed when i was 21 (10 yrs ago), left the jw's as a single mom with a 3 yr old son.
jw mom helped me raise him for the first few years, so my departure was a sticky family mess.
The worst part of the JW religion is that they SEPERATE families. I told my mom that my family (my new husband and myself) are a family unit, take us ALL OR NOTHING into your life. If and when we have children if she can't speak to me still and treat me like family she will have no access to my children.
It's your family. I think maybe you need to invite her over to your house for a FAMILY dinner. EVeryone sits around together in your home and eats like a family. You can set up some rules too, you don't have to accept all their stupid rules. I think standing up for yourself is a great thing!
i now enjoy telling people about the things jehovah's witnesses can and cannot do.
for instance, witnesses can work in a store that sells lottery tickets and tobacco but they can't own the store themselves.....whole blood is forbidden to be transfused yet blood fractions are acceptable.
donating blood in any form is wrong but accepting blood fractions is a conscience matter.........can you think of other jw oddities????
You can stand up to show respect for the flag/country when they are doing the "pledge of allegiance" but you can't mime the words or put your hand on your heart.
(BTW I used to hate that part in school every day, I was ALWAYS made fun of)
hey there.
i'm new to this board, so i thought i'd introduce myself with a story.
it details the kind of thursday night we all dreaded as a young jw.
You forgot the part where you fall asleep or at least nod off during the meeting and then your mother elbows you in the ribs.
Welcome!!! that was hilarious!
of all names...have you ever wondered why the flagship magazine and of the society is called the "watchtower"?
Because back in the day, a guy would sit in the watchtower and actually watch for incoming threats, like an army approaching etc, then he would WARN the townspeople of the incoming attack.
The JWs said that the magazine was like a warning about armeggedon and they were the "watchers of the world heralding the Lord's presence" or something like that.
after leaving jw, being a former regular pioneer for many years, i wanted to still help others is a meaningful way.
this year i am raising money for the leukemia & lymphoma society.
i am training to run a marathon, 26.2 miles as part of my fund raising.
Have you ever wondered if all the Bethalites and all the pioneers and all the volunteers ever put their time and effort and energies towards curing cancer or doing something that actually produces results where we might be?
I pioneered for years and when I look back at it, I don't feel like I did any good at all. I would be so proud if I were you for training and getting into the marathon. Not only are you helping out a good cause but you are using your body in a healthy way to prevent disease yourself. That is just WONDERFUL! Cheering your on 100%!!!
as you can see afin, from soj's thread started today, your pompous attitude is not going to get you anywhere here.
obviously we had an effect on soj and we will eventually have the same effect on you.
i for one don't like your preachiness or holier than thou attitude.
And as for your life being better or worse, here's my living testimony. I was miserable, unhappy, and unsatisfied with swallowing their lies. My life was crap.
My life 10 years seperated is filled with great friends, happiness, satisfaction and a great life.
Your worst day as a Witness is just that - terrible.
when a witness starts thinking, there comes a time when decisions have to be made.
when you know that their bible chronolgy is unsupported or that the revelation climax book is absurd, it begins the process of 'what are you going to do now?
'......what could get you motivated is the realization that "love" is not the hallmark of this organization.
I can't fake anything in life. I like living in honesty. There is no way I could compromise my own honesty and do it.
just a question.... what if the wts came out with a for sure prediction based on new light that without a doubt armeggedon will be here in 2150?
well, that means that our generation will all die, but we can hope for a resurrection and we have to continue to preach and our grandchildren or great-grandchildren might actually be the ones to walk through the "end" into their "new system"
the question is how many jw's would there be?
I don't think an apocalyptic religion can survive without its apocalypse!
I like that. That sums up my feelings.
