RIP Barry Humphries
by LoveUniHateExams incomedy legend barry humphries passed away yesterday aged 89. he was the genius behind dame edna everage and sir les patterson.. humphries was also an intellectual, with a huge personal library of first prints and rare editions.
he apparently dropped out of studying law because he found it 'boring', from what i remember reading about him.
instead, he created a number of comedy characters - as much for his own amusement as ours.. here's to a long life, well-lived 🥂.

Just read that Carl Olof Jonsson died yesterday
by slimboyfat infor newbies, who was carl olof jonsson?
he was a jw in sweden who was challenged by a householder in the 1960s, who pointed out to him that secular history books don’t agree with watchtower that jerusalem was destroyed in 607 bce, but instead place the event 20 years later.
the reason the date is important is because it is the starting date for jw chronology which leads to 1914 as the end of the gentile times, and the beginning of the last days, as jws understand it.

Turned off the video at “the seven anti-virus scriptures”. I’ve got no idea what that means, but I strongly suspect I can live without knowing. Chronology is a black hole that attracts crazies on all sides.
That reminds me, I wonder how Gordon Ritchie is doing these days, if I remember right he was the one who secured a meeting with Dan Sydlik to discuss his prophecy madness in the 1990s. Or our own JCanon for the matter.

I don’t agree. If he dwells on it at all, I think he probably finds it amusing that other channels are putting in so much effort and getting so many more views - yet only get a fraction of the money and donations that he does. At one time he probably cared a lot about numbers and the prestige of high profile interviews and connections (Steven Hassan, Leah Remini, Stuckman, BBC, Royal Commission, and so on). He finds it difficult to get credible people to work with him now, but as long as the money keeps coming in he will consider it overall a win for him. Who knows, if someone is such a tenacious liar and con artist, maybe in time will manage rebuild reputation, and start caring about views and rankings again. But as I’ve said before, he clearly hates doing these stupid videos nowadays, so it will be a hard slog. He’ll try to get others to do the work as much as possible and turn up for a few hours each month the keep the Patreon grift alive. If he ends up back on top and fully rehabilitated, he’ll take it, but just the money currently is victory enough.

Biden running in 2024 🤣
by LoveUniHateExams ini've filed this under news and world events, although i could've posted it under entertainment, lol.
apparently, joe biden will be seeking re-election for another term in the white house.. this, despite a recent poll showing that 70% of people don't want him to run again.. biden just has to be the worst president i've seen.
his gaffes, over-relience on a prompter, and, more than any other president, his refusal to answer journalists' questions, all go to make him top of the list in terms of bad presidents.. it will certainly provide entertainment, if nothing else..

Oh for crying out loud. The world needs new leadership, everywhere. We are in a terrible state. End the wars. End the profiteering at the expense of the health and welfare of the mass population. Like somebody posted on another thread -
And with new AI technology the corruption and propaganda is bound to reach new menacing heights. If I was in the US I’d vote for Robert Kennedy Jnr. I’ve hardly ever heard a politicians say so many things I agree with at once during the launch of his campaign.

I doubt LE gives a đź’© how many people watch his videos at this stage, so long as the crazy ones who do keep sending him their money, most of all the barmy $50 brigade. Making interesting videos and soliciting donations are two separate skills and LE definitely specialises in the latter.

I get the sense that scholar is not entirely serious but is performing a kind of madness.
It reminds me of a quote, which I can’t locate now, along the lines: don’t try on madness for size because you’ll always find the garment fits

When Did the Watchtower Introduce the "Generation of 1914" Teaching?
by Ding ini'm looking for help to track down the development of the "generation" doctrine, starting with when the wt first specifically tied the end to the generation of 1914.. russell taught that 1914 would be the end of this system of things.
when that failed, rutherford started touting 1925.. no need to talk about generations then; it was just specific dates.. when did they first tie the end in to a "generation of 1914" time frame?.
i also know that they changed the meaning of generation several times.. first, a person had to have been at least 15 in order to have seen the events of 1914 with understanding of what was happening.. i think they lowered that to 10 and then finally it was anyone who was alive in 1914.. of course, now the generation overlaps.. does anyone know someone where all these wt teachings are set out chronologically (preferably with citations to the literature)?.

The corrosive nature of CRT
by LoveUniHateExams indiane abbot has been temporarily suspended from the labour party whilst they investigate her behaviour.. what's she done?.
it was leaked that a first draft of a letter she was going to write had the claim that jews can't experience racism.. the influence of crt is obvious.
according to this warped worldview, there are two types of people, oppressors and oppressed.

Many of those who malign Antonio Gramsci have never read any Gramsci but are following a popularised and inaccurate caricature offered by a few conservative authors who use bits and pieces from here and there. If you have only heard about Gramsci from those who use him as a kind of villain it’s no basis. It would be like learning about Darwin’s theory of natural selection from the blue Creation book. You only have the vaguest idea what it’s actually about and much is crucially distorted. I have read some the prison notebooks and it’s plainly not for nothing that Gramsci is held as an important thinker. In terms of Marxism where he fits in is that he showed that cultural superstructure impacts the material base, which some Marxists disputed. Whether you agree with programmatic Marxism or not, he made a good case for how the world actually works, which is useful to know whichever political perspective you have.

Phizzy they might prove as elusive as those “Marxist postmodernists” (a contradiction in terms) that Jordan Peterson and others seem fixated on.
