between 1995 and now, you never did an internet search of "jehovahs-witness" or "watchtower"?

I can sympathise with the question.

When I first got on the Internet in 1999 "Jehovah's witnesses" was the first thing I googled and I read absolutely everything I could find. At first I believed JWs had the truth and nothing I could read would contradict that.

I just assumed all JWs would do the same.

It's been a long strange process of realisation for me: that all (or most) of the JWs I knew, and who said they were interested in "the truth", and claimed to believe the facts were on their side... when it comes down to it, are either afraid or are not interested in challenging their beliefs.

Some of them seem to lack basic curiousoty about the belief system which has dominated their lives. I'll never understand that.

You suggest I should read about Nigerian English. Is that an oblique way of saying you believe the letter is genuine? Care to be more explicit, and give your reasons?

If WT are cutting back on mags will they also cut back on Bethelites?

i was thinking after hearing about the agm cutbacks to the mags and other website content surely they will end up dismissing more bethelites?

i would have thought in the old days, before the web, an artist or writer at bethel would have been a full time job making content for four 32 page mags a month.

now what are these guys going to do?.

Yes. Considering Knorr managed to run the entire WT publishing empire with around 5000 workers, whereas now there are still 19,000 (down from 26,000);I'd say yes, they have a long way to go with the personnel cuts.

How low can they go? With little or no literature to produce, down below 1000 worldwide, perhaps? Why not?

Again this is nothing to do with wifi's honesty. He may have been handed a fake unawares. He's yet to explain where it came from.

But the Nigerian one stands out in lots of ways.

It doesn't leave a two line gap after the date as other letters do for example. Compare:

So there are only 12 magazines left!

ok, so hot on the heels of the announcement at the agm, we have been told that there are probably only 12 magazines left!.

yes, there will be only 3 wt each year, and 3 awakes.... and that they will do this for two years, then reprint those issues.... so yes, the "abundance of spiritual food" is limited to 12 more magazines..... surely, this is proof of the end coming so soon!?!

As far as I'm concerned, the Watchtower and Awake! magazines, as I used to know them, ceased publication a number of years ago. I don't know what to call the bullet-point leaflets they have been handing out in recent years.

both sides presented their arguments and now the judges will write an opinion (30 to 90 days).

Very interesting. How much do they owe now? Is it likely they will ever pay, I wonder. Or produce the documents. Or, presumably, both!

I think it's a very bad idea to fake a letter like this. How can we know what's real in future? How can historians and journalists document authentic developments of the organisation? Very troubling, actually.

Compare the Nigerian letter with this genuine (I presume) letter from Ghana which includes the closing c: circuit overseers, and code 9/27/17-E, plus clear instructions on who the letter is to be shared with. The Nigerian letter lacks these features, in addition to the odd language noted above.

Plus, a small thing, but there's not enough space between the date and "TO ALL..." in the Nigerian letter.

Here is another genuine letter from Ghana to compare. Again notice the clear instructions on how the information is to be shared. Plus the format.

There was another letter on the forum recently that was fake. (Has anyone got a link to that?) The strange thing was it said nothing terribly outrageous either. I don't know what the motive was.

In this case the motive may be to slightly exaggerate Watchtower eagerness to ask for donations. But not exaggerate too much as to be unbelievable.

It did occur to me the style may be slightly different because it is from a local branch in Africa. But I think some of the layout and textual features are also inaccurate.

I think the letter is fake.
