  Absolutely, there’s no way AMIII went for age or health reasons. The JWs parroting that line know it’s not true themselves, on some level. It’s more like a party line than a plausible explanation.

  It feels like some people I’ve talked to about the US blowing up the Russian pipeline. Most people realise on some level, despite the blanket propaganda in our media, that the idea of Russia blowing up its own pipeline is pretty stupid, but you’re still a traitor for saying it out loud.

  “Firstborn of all creation” in Col 1.15 clearly means that Jesus is God’s first creation, just as surely as “firstborn from among the dead” in Col 1.18 means that Jesus was the first one permanently raised from the dead. The idea that the passage is not clear about Jesus being a creature just because it doesn’t add the word “other” is weak. Besides which, the passage is an allusion to Prov 8.22, which in the LXX, the Bible of the early church, clearly stated that Jehovah created wisdom as the beginning of his works, a passage that early Christian writers were unanimous (including Trinitarians) applied to Jesus. Plus there is Rev 3.14, Jesus is described as “the beginning of the creation of God”, and John 6.57, where Jesus says, “I live because of the Father”. It was in later centuries that Jesus’ status as the first creation of God was disputed and overturned at Nicaea in 325 AD.

  Is a piano inevitable?

  i was at a concert last night and the presence and stature of the piano struck me.

  and i thought: if the piano wasn't invented when it was, would it have been invented by someone else instead?

  or if there was a world the same as our, except with a different history, would it have pianos now too or would it be modern world, similar in many respects, only without pianos?

  i was reading an article about the pomp and circumstance around the first coronation in nearly a century.. made me think of the revelation book (the red one, not the bible) and the picture of the two headed beast with a sword and if i have some time today i will see if i can’t find it and age it a bit, it seems the sword is a bit dull and the two heads are now both octogenarians with severe dementia, kind of funny to see that instead of “swift judgment” we’ve come to internal decay.. what do you canadians, english, scots, irish and australians think about your new leadership?.

  what that means?.

  elders will need the courage to follow instructions "may relate to delivering a symbolic hailstone message...".. in another section "major world events may raise some from spiritual slumber".

  he was a jw in sweden who was challenged by a householder in the 1960s, who pointed out to him that secular history books don’t agree with watchtower that jerusalem was destroyed in 607 bce, but instead place the event 20 years later.

  the reason the date is important is because it is the starting date for jw chronology which leads to 1914 as the end of the gentile times, and the beginning of the last days, as jws understand it.

  I attended a Christadelphian lecture where the speaker claimed that Tyre wasn’t rebuilt because the central part of the current settlement still contains the old ruins. He used Google maps and it seemed to check out. What this means for Bible prophecy I don’t know.

  You know that old thread (linked a few pages back) where LE was arguing endlessly and monotonously (with usual scant knowledge of the facts) with other poster about “Anonymous” potentially leaking Watchtower’s data on abusers? (WitnessMyFury, and a few others had him well sussed back then.) It seemed, at the time, that he was arguing strongly for the data to be released to the public, despite the caution of others that the files probably include individuals who had been falsely accused, and should be handled by the authorities. But looking at it again, was he really arguing that “Anonymous” should hand the files over to him because he was in a position publicise it? Mmm.
