I never read the forum at all. Did anyone ever write anything on the site that was worth keeping? Those who ran the site apparently didn't think so.

Aid to Bible Understanding - can you help summarise any useful sections?
by Fernando inrandall watters presents the fascinating backstory of the "aid book", and the brouhaha surrounding it, in this article:.
"the watchtower bible and tract society: the critical years 1975-1997".
so far it seems the project to research and write the "aid to bible understanding" revealed serious doctrinal and institutional flaws that the gb wanted to preserve nonetheless.. it seems what ray franz and his team were learning, and were largely blocked from presenting:.

It's also interesting to note what they left out of the Aid/Insight books. In particular they left out many of the speculative interpretations of Daniel and Revelation and the type/anti-type interpretations. A tacit admission even then, that most of this stuff would likely be scrapped at some point, so was better left out of their version of a Bible Encyclopedia if it was to have any longevity.
Come to think on it, and without checking, I don't think there are entries for "this generation" or the UN as the "scarlet-coloured beast" either. They probably knew they'd have to revise the first, and didn't want to promote the latter in such a formal statement of doctrine.
Also absent is any discussion of disfellowshipping or congregation discipline, which they claim is completely Bible based. If it's Bible based then why not discussed using Bible terms in a Bible dictionary?
I should have checked before making these points but I think they're correct.

I think the major thing that arose from the Aid book research was the replacement of the congregation overseer with the new elder arrangement in the congregations, and the replacement of the presidency with the governing body as the centre of power in the organisation as a whole.

Good question, worth investigating. There were various kinds of statistics in different forms in the Yearbook right back to the first one in 1927 I think. -

How long does it take to get a response from the branch office?
by Homer notsimpson indoes any one have any experience with writing to the branch office?
i know they're busy, but while reading through the shepherd textbook, it says to write to them quite a few times.
so if a body of elders write to the branch office, whats the usual wait time for a response?

Depends what you're asking:
How can I donate my life savings to the worldwide work? Instantaneous
have you noticed that the 1914 chronology doesn't work for this or that reason? Somewhere between six months and never.

also, i am supposed to believe much money has been spent on rto's.

When was the last Dutch revised version? Some languages apparently incorporated some of the NWT 2013 revisions before the new English version came out. -

SCOTLAND: Livingston Kingdom Hall
by darkspilver ini think this deserves it's own thread, so as not to get mixed-up tl;dr - go to the bar charts at the end...picking up on jambon1's comments:.
the one in the op - livingston, was a merge to the newly built assembly hall in the same area.
i think three congs share that building now.. nice wee scoop up of the cash from the sale of livingston and whitburn.

I've been to that assembly hall, it's been there a few years now. Very basic, quite small, like an oversized KH, in the middle of nowhere.
It means congregations in Scotland no longer use public town halls for assemblies, which they had done for over a century. At least town halls had character, and were located in the centre of towns. Just one more "simplification" that makes the JW existence even more bland and unappealing.
