22 fascinating maps that show how Americans speak English differently across the US
by blondie inhttp://www.msn.com/en-us/lifestyle/smart-living/22-fascinating-maps-that-show-how-americans-speak-english-differently-across-the-us/ss-bbwqtug?li=bbnb7kz&ocid=iehp .
everyone knows americans don't agree on pronunciations.. that's great, because regional accents and dialects are a major part of why american english is so interesting.. josh katz, a former ph.d. student of statistics at north carolina state university, published a group of awesome visualizations of professor bert vaux and scott golder's linguistic survey, which looked at differences in american dialects (via detsl on /r/linguistics).. his results were first published on the abstract, the nc state university research blog.
the complete set of katz's maps, updated with the results from more than 350,000 new survey responses, are compiled in the new book "speaking american," publishing october 25 from houghton mifflin harcourt.. katz gave business insider permission to publish some of the coolest maps from his collection..

Ha, and I like how Florida calls New York "the city" on map 21. I guess I learned something about America from Seinfeld after all...

Very interesting! I'm very interested in this. It's a shame Leolaia isn't around to discuss it.
I find it a little difficult to distinguish because I'm colour blind.
But is there a particularly striking concentration of soda(?) in Missouri on map 12.
And you get rotaries instead of roundabouts, but only in Maine?

New Song Book - interesting change of lyrics
by Tallon ini found this image on cedars latest article and believe it was originally posted on reddit.
.
you know how the org is always pleading poverty and continuously asking for donations; well how is this for a subtle way of changing lyrics in order to get the publishers to think continually on giving!.

What they don't tell you what was left out of the Bible.
by Crazyguy inin the newest bible the gb took out the scriptures found in the last chapter of mark verses 9 on.
they say these scriptures were added later.
what they don't tell you in in the oldest bible the septuagint the assention of christ to heaven was also not in the book of luke nor mathew!

It's true the ascension of Jesus is not in the Septuagint. But neither is any of the rest of the NT, the Septuagint being a Greek translation of the Old Testament.
But what I think what you're getting at: it's true that Mark is the earliest gospel and if the shortest version is original it doesn't show Jesus going to heaven or even being resurrected.

What is the biggest hypocrisy you have seen as a witness?
by HereIgo ini have far too many to name, but ill start with obscene music, gambling and cussing like a sailor.
all the while preaching to "worldly people" about their impending death at armageddon.
thoughts?.

Agree with OrphanCrow the blood hypocrisy is truly shocking.
Talking the mountains of blood it requires to produce blood products like factor 8 but not contributing a drop of blood themselves.
There are other analogous hypocrisies: such as refusing to be involved in politics but insisting on their rights and privileges in liberal democracies.
They complain about mankind "ruining the earth" but engage in no activism to save the planet, instead waiting on Jehovah, while printing their tons of literature, with inevitable environmental consequences.
Until very recently they had the cheek to point the finger at the Catholic Church over abuse scandals.
They encourage outsiders to examine their religions with an open mind, but forbid their own members from doing the same.
It's not difficult to think of hypocrisy with JWs. It's hard to know when to stop!

Anionted mom says Jehovah may ask her to kill all her family!!
by Witness 007 inyes my holy anionted mom who has cancer is concerned that the loving god jehovah may ask her in heaven to destroy here non believer family including her 5 year old grandchild during armagedon....how messed up are these crazy people!!?

We might call it insane and unhinged, but isn't it actually simply the consequence of taking JW teachings deadly seriously?
I remember other threads where people have described feeling, as JWs, that their non-JW families would be better off dead, because at least then they'd get a resurrection.

Steve Hassan. Can some one verify if this is true.

Excellent work bohm, checking the background, and confirms what I suspected was the situation.
Hassan is qualified, his charges are clear up front, and people are not pressured. On top of all that his charges are apparently not atypical. I don't see much ground for complaint here.
You could have also mentioned that the accusations of plagiarism are unfounded as anyone who has read his books knows. He may not use academic footnotes, but his text is full of references and acknowledgement of the work of Lifton and others. He at no point pretends to have developed these ideas himself.
I would argue there are problems applying some of his recommendations to JWs because JWs are somewhat different and less extreme than some of the other groups he deals with. Plus his focus is helping families remove loved ones from cults, whereas, more typically, unhappy JWs are trapped in the religion precisely because of their families. These are more criticisms of the applicability of Hassan's work to JWs than criticisms of his work in itself.

The allegations of dual relationships and use of hypnosis/NLP are what concerns me most out of all those listed in the article. Those are dealbreakers.
Hassan knew the founders of NLP in the early 1980s but has been speaking out against it for decades. So those accusations seem particularly mischievous.
Apart from anything else, personally I find Hassan's constant uptalk very tiring to listen to.
