St George of England "my greatest worry is that I may just survive. Just imagine living forever with only JW's on earth. That's not paradise, that's hell on earth!" I actually told that to some elders after we had discussed all the very unloving things done to me and others by fellow jws. I told them I didn't want to live forever with them. Did not argue with me on that point.

Did the WT Policy on Lying Bother You When You Were a JW?
by Sea Breeze inhere's the wt standard for lying: "while malicious lying is definitely condemned in the bible, this does not mean that a person is under obligation to divulge truthful information to people who are not entitled to it" - insight pp.
244-245. vs. websters dictionary:.
lie, noun.

Scully, of course, the GB decides and tells the rest of the jws who is "entitled." The WTS uses the concept by not telling its members about child sexual abuse. Even with the letters to the congregation from the GB, don't have the same info as that sent to the elder body. That floored my husband when he became an elder, even asked why they were different. Told that some info was not meant for the rest of the congregation...

What is the Craziest Thing You Are Aware Of Someone Being Disfellowshipped For?
by Sea Breeze ini knew a lady who was disfellowshipped for 20 years for smoking.
she finally went back to the kh and since they couldn't find her paperwork, (all the former elders were dead) she was allowed back in without reinstatement.
no one even remembered her.

I wonder if this was what they used? But then I wonder if they would still do it the same now? Remember it is 3 elders from one BOE, and wonder if they put the facts in the report to headquarters?
WT 2006 9/15 p. 9 The decision of the elders investigating the case should be based on the Scriptures and the clearly established facts—an admission by the driver and/or the testimony of two or three reliable eyewitnesses. (Deuteronomy 17: 16; Matthew 18:15,16) If bloodguilt is established, a judicial committee should be formed. If the committee determines that the bloodguilty person is repentant, he will receive appropriate reproof from the Scriptures and will be restricted as regards privileges in the congregation

Is there a new rule regarding disfellowshipped people?
by HOTB indoes anyone have any information about a relaxing of the rules regarding family reaching out to disfellowshipped members?.
i've heard of an elder being openly in touch with a long time disfellowshipped family member.
apparently the term 'compassionate view' had been bandied about.. i can't find anything relating to this.. i'd be interested what the new rule is in when came into play.. hotb .

NotFormer, this is only a small sample. I knew jws from that era who still continued long after sharing these thoughts with newer jws who thought that person was "off their rocker." I had access to the copies of the Golden Age in my family's personal library, it was better than the "funny papers" as comics were once called. This was enlightening: Golden Age 1920 Jan 7 p.241
"Even in the case of the human family, if the father and mother are of different races the children are sometimes unfit for brain work. Wonderful are the fixed laws of God." -

by Halcon inon a trip to rome a few years ago i asked my friend (who is roman and jw) what the catholic faith thinks of jw.
he simply stated that jw is tolerated by the church but that really not much thought is given to them.

Edit to say that the WTS does NOT recognized baptisms of other religions.

HOTB, you might read over this link which a timeline about the past and now current changes to disfellowshipping. It came out in a August 2024 WT study article, which was studied at the Watchtower Study meeting. https://www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/disfellowship-shunning.php Here is how it starts out but the development of this change follows: "Removed not Disfellowshipped - Aug 2024 Change in terminology
Page 27 of the August 2024 Watchtower stated that the word disfellowshipped will no longer be used, and instead be referred to as “being removed from the congregation.”
This is simply a cosmetic change, as the reasons to remove an individual remain the same and continue to require shunning that person. (A minor change is a disfellowshipped/removed person may be greeted at meetings.) Information throughout this article discussing disfellowshipped individuals continues to apply to “removed” individuals.
For information regarding why this change occurred see footnote. (1) -

Halcon, but then the WTS does recognize the baptisms of other religions. Definitely 1956 and after, but most likely rebaptism was required after 1918, the WTS at time said that its members (all anointed because there was no great crowd identified then, all were anointed) were being taken to heaven in 1918. Is this confusing, and the has been forthcoming in explaining in their history. Only those baptized before 1918 did not have to be baptized again. While the exact details of Charles Taze Russell's personal baptismal practices before 1918 are not definitively documented, the organization later established that immersion before 1918, coupled with a shift away from a previous religious affiliation and affiliation with the Watch Tower, was considered valid.
But in 1956, is was stated definitely, people needed to be rebaptized by jws.
WT 1956 July 1 p. 406 pp.14 “Often the question is asked whether one baptized previously in a ceremony performed by some other religious group should again be baptized when coming to an accurate knowledge of the truth and making a dedication to Jehovah. Because of what has been already said, now there is compelling reason for also saying, Yes, one must be baptized again. Obviously, by any of such religious systems one was never in reality baptized “in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit,” because had he been so baptized he would have appreciated the authority and office of such true Higher Powers. And if previously dedicated to Jehovah, the individual would have separated himself from such God-dishonoring Babylonish systems even before letting them baptize him. So the act of being baptized is not the important thing, but, rather, that which the act symbolizes is the element of importance.”
My grandparents were baptized as Bible Students (what members of the WTS were known back then (changed to Jehovah's witnesses in 1931 by Rutherford) and had been Lutherans and had to cut off all ties with their church.

Following are a sampling of golden nuggets from this journal (Golden Age). Some are highly amusing; others unfortunately were seriously dangerous to health and invasion on follower's personal lives.
"The bobbed hair craze is sure to lead to baldness, sooner or later. The reason for this is that human hair is like a tube sealed at the free end. When the hair is cut, the oils which are the life of the hair become dissipated. The reason why men grow bald so quickly is that they have their hair cut so frequently and, in addition, wear tightly fitting hats, which cut off the circulation of the scalp. The reason why women, hitherto, have had such beautiful hair is that they have not cut it; and the twisting and folding of the hair has helped to retain the natural oil." Many women have turned against the fashion of bobbing the hair, and are letting their hair grow again." Golden Age 1924 Nov 19 p.100
"There is no food that is right food for the morning meal. At breakfast is no time to break a fast. Keep up the daily fast until the noon hour... Drink plenty of water two hours after each meal; drink none just before eating; and a small quantity if any at meal time. Good buttermilk is a health drink at meal times and in between. Do not take a bath until two hours after eating a meal, nor closer than one hour before eating. Drink a full glass of water both before and after the bath." Golden Age 1925 Sep 9 pp.784-785
"If any overzealous doctor condemns your tonsils go and commit suicide with a case-knife. It's cheaper and less painful." Golden Age 1926 Apr 7 p.438
"Sleep on the right side or flat on your back, with the head toward the north so as to get benefit of the earth's magnetic currents. Avoid serum inoculations as they pollute the blood stream with their filthy pus.... Stop chewing gum, as you need the saliva for your food." Golden Age 1929 Nov 12 p.107
"Medicine originated in demonology and spent its time until the last century and a half trying to exorcise demons. During the past half century it has tried to exorcise germs." Golden Age 1931 Aug 5 p.728
"The earlier in the forenoon you take the sun bath, the greater will be the beneficial effect, because you get more of the ultra-violet rays, which are healing." Golden Age 1933 Sep 13 p.777
