I think they are called the Apochrypha, but when they decided which books should go in the authorised version based on the squillions of translations around these books werent in all of them so they missed them out. I think the King James has them...NWT doesn't.

Is Confession Actually A Bad Thing To Do?
by Englishman inwhen i make mistakes ( i do, i do!
) or do something really bad, the last thing i think about is confessing to it.. i apologise where appropriate, try to learn from the experience and generally file away the event so's to maybe profit by the experience.
sometimes i even feel remorse!.

Englishman - that is a really interesting comment of yours -
In fact, it can even negate useful remorse, that period of discomfort we get when we've done something bad.
I've always wondered why I feel the urge the confess whenever I do something wrong - an urge almost as strong as the urge to conceal and cover up. I always knew my motives weren't entirely pure, and now I know why.
Having said that my primary reason for confessing to my boyfriend is that I would hate to lie to him and him not to know who the real me is and that he should have the choice to continue as my b/f based on knowledge of all the facts.

I believe you Dustin - just post a recent one so we can judge for ourselves! ButI think men have an advantage - they always look better.
I am going to be 30 next week, I thought about altering my profile and making myself the age I feel - well you know there is a lot to be said for that! I doubt I will be able to believe myself to be a 30 year old even if it shouts at me every day from the board!
I wanted to start a thread on it and only just discovered we can only 2 per day! I'm not jijacking admiration of your glorious yet invisible body Dustin but if anyone drops by and can remember how being 30 and officially an adult felt - let me know.

Ug what an awful question! I just had a look at the thread to see what other people have and mostly everyone has a fairly optimistic opinion!
Dustin - you are 27 and male - there is very little wrong that could like that bad
What I have learnt by looking back at years of photos is that you always look better last year than last, your body is great and you just don't know it until a year passes and its not so great. try not to be self-critical.
As for me, (oh dear another kingdom melody entree) I like my eyelashes and pretty much despair of everything else!
(btw this is me today at my desk at work in my avatar pic, so feel free to criticise!)

Friends
by pleaseer2001 inok it has been a little bit since there was a fluffy post by p2..so here it goes!.
i have been thinking the last few months about family, friends and what role they take in my life.i have a good circle of people where i live but many do not understand my need to be who i am and to just live life and not give a hoot what anyone else feels the right or wrong way should be.
i live my life based on what i feel is right for myself and my kids...not what most would feel as the norm.

A friend to me is someone who knows my dreadful faults first hand without fully understanding the reasons and still embraces me. I have a really special friend called Cat who did that, I judged her for something without knowing the facts and was publicly mean to her and she forgave me and i absolutely adore the girl and her boyfriend.

Who do you miss the most?
by Crumpet inparticularly for those who are shunned for reasons of dfing and daing completely, who do you miss the most that no longer has anything to do with you?
and why?

Superb quote Dustin!
But isn't it impossible not to miss some? I, without wishing to show favourtism to any family member, probably miss my sister. But then you are right time heals - but takes ages. I cried for years, every time I had a moment to myself, which was often.i miss her because even though she was younger she was of a much sweeter and nobler disposition than me and was the greatest source of unconditional love and forgiveness, I really experienced as a witness. I miss her to bits, but I heard from this board she was at pioneer school recently. I hope she is happy and never missed me as much as I missed her. It crippled me for years.

six poinsettia plants on the grounds that his religion did not celebrate Christmas;
I had no idea some of God's creations, flowers, were actually pagan!
It seems Canada is going as "precious" as America. What are the pagan connections with poinsettias - anyone know?

what kind of "persecution" did you undergo as a JW?
by what_Truth? ini'm not talking about the serious kind that occurs when elders start stalking you or government authorities that throw you in jail for not violating your religion.
i'm talking about those harmless yet bizzare little incidents that cause the po's wife to start shaking in her boots and say 'ohmygoodness we are being....persecuted!!!
in my old kingdom hall a guy ran in during a watchtower study and yelled "worship satan" before running out.

I tried to think of any examples like that, but other than time some kids spat on me from their bedroom window while I waited for a householder to come to the door so I could do my presentation I couldnt think of anything.
But then a lightswitch went on and i thought of all the times I personally felt persecuted, and whaddya know all of those experiences were JW generated, not by worldly people.
I felt persecuted when I was forced to leave home on a job that paid me only £50 a week and had to live in an attic.
I felt persecuted everytime I was smacked for something, which was regularly
I felt persecuted when I was disfellowshipped, and even more when I was working towards reinstatement and moved home. When we had JW visitors I had to stay in my room for hours, even if I was desperate to use the loo, eat or drink. It was humiliating having to wait for one of my younger siblings come and check on me and then take me to the toilet so there was no chance my grandparents or aunts or uncles or cousins or old friends would have the embarassment of having to lay eyes on me in my parents house.
I felt persecuted when the elders had me marked and my parents removed me from school when I was 10 years old for a rude ryhme found in my lunch box that I didn;t even understand, but they said showed that I was going to get involved in sexual immorality. I was 10! My period didnt start for another 3 years!
I could whinge on and on, but you get the picture. All the times I remember feeling humiliated and persecuted was a result of JW action.

What made your whole congregation laugh during a meeting?????????

a sister was visiting our hall from another congregation and was sitting in the back of the hall.
she raised her hand to answer a question, but only had one finger in the air.

My first trip on the platform was as part of a demonstration in my Dad's talk on the ministry school about the importance of family study or some such nonsense. Anyway I was 5 and we had rehearsed this little scene to death. We were doing the Cain and Abel story out of the bible stories book.
So my Dad said to me "Nina, would you ever hit your little sister with a big stick like Cain did?"
I waited for him to hand over the mike feeling all smug and important with all those eyes on me and wide-eyed decided to ad lib and speak from the heart and said,
"No, daddy, I would only ever hit her with a little stick." I was mortified but pleased at the same time, as I must have done something right if the whole congregation was rolling around laughing. My poor Dad!
