"Confession" to God or to the Elders...
by JH in.
my parents are catholic, and they had a special meeting for "confession" last night.
this got me thinking about confession in the jw's.. it seems to me that jw's confess their sins to elders rather than to god..... try smoking or playing lotto, and then tell the elders that you done that and asked god for forgiveness.. i think that you'll have to ask the elders for forgiveness too...

What is the point of telling God something he already knows?

Is Confession Actually A Bad Thing To Do?
by Englishman inwhen i make mistakes ( i do, i do!
) or do something really bad, the last thing i think about is confessing to it.. i apologise where appropriate, try to learn from the experience and generally file away the event so's to maybe profit by the experience.
sometimes i even feel remorse!.

You didn't exactly misunderstand - you just mis-analysed where I was coming from a little bit, but you made me think and that is a good thing. I like thinking - I only started doing it when I was 29 so its a new thing for me and any provocation to do so is welcome! hehe!

No no, that's a witness conditioned response. It's like saying if you know what I'm really like you won't want me.
Englishman - I'm not going to say that there isn't an element of that there, but I haven't replaced the borg with my boyfriend - and he'd do his nut if he thought that.LOL. (I have replaced by father with him in part tho - I'll concede that much.)
The reason I dispute your analysis in my particular case is this: as a witness I had no desire to confess at all and my life was filled with lies and secrets and cover ups. So if there is any witness conditioning - it is in that I want to be exactly opposite to everything I had to be as a witness, ie I don't have to lie anymore and also because I get a kick out of being forgiven by my boyfriend because I come from the unforgiving JWs.
However I haven't had anything to confess to him for years (other than the favourite wine glass I broke last night - oops there goes my confessional instinct again!) I think I wanted to test him and our relationship a lot in the early days and that was definitely because I had/have serious trust issues, having been let down so hard by my family. (God that feels cool to say - let me say it again "LET DOWN BY MY FAMILY"! - not me letting my family down!)

For the women: Clothes shopping right before the memorial
by catchthis ini have noticed now and in the past that most, if not all sisters, go clothes shopping right before the memorial.
they make it out to be this huge deal.
almost to the point where if they do not get that new dress from nordstroms, they won't be able to be seen at the memorial.

Oh this brings back memories! We never had new dresses for memorials but definitely for assemblies. That was the best bit - sorting a dress for each day of the assembly and then you'd get there and some
bitchsister would be there from your own congregation wearing the same damn dress looking better in it than you and you'd know that not only were you going to have to spend the entire dayhiding in the toilets cursing heravoiding being the same side of the stadium as her, you were never going to be able to wear it at your own hall!dem were de days!

I'd like to announce that I will be leaving this board and returning to the witnesses. They never had a scripted presentation when I was there, in fact I even remember being counselled by an elders wife who was with me on field service for not varying my presentation to each householder. Now they have this new light and it is okay to regurgitate the same from one door to the next I can't wait to go door to door!

Since the slayings, Greist has become a Jehovah?s Witness. He is allowed to leave the hospital for three hours every week to attend services in West Norristown.
The man also is granted one 12-hour leave every three months, which he has used to go shopping at the King of Prussia Mall, and he often travels alone using public transportation to visit physicians located off the hospital property.
Greist holds a job at the hospital as manager of the facility?s cafeteria, and on Nov. 29, he married his third wife, Frances Greist, a New Zealand woman he met on the Internet through a Jehovah?s Witness Web site.
Assistant District Attorney Peter Hobart argued against any change to Greist?s commitment status.
Hobart called upon Dr. Barbara E. Ziv, a forensic psychiatrist, and psychologist Steven E. Samuel, to testify the man still posed a risk to the community.
"Richard Greist has talked in very concerning ways about all the women in his life," Ziv said. She concluded he has demonstrated a "high degree of misogyny and anti-female resentment."
Samuel examined Greist twice during January."He has not developed any insight into the basis of what happened in 1978," Samuel said. "I think he is bothered by intense emotional feelings, he is frightened by them in a way. He consciously covers over his problems to minimize his weaknesses."

Any idea which chat room?
And do you ever recover from the kind of mental illness that would drive you to gouge your little girl's eye out or to rip your unborn child from your wife's womb killing her and the baby?
Staggering!

It was surreal. Your impressions of the "Monthly Awake!" service meeting?
by ezekiel3 inat our service meeting the conductor of "more emphasis on the bible!
" (the march kingdom ministry article discussing the monthly awake!
) routinely asked the questions, comments were read from the paragraph and there was a rediculous emphasis on the scriptures cited, even to the point that wt references were given that had nothing to do with the subject.

"do not circulate or download these [unauthorized kingdom song] recordings from the Internet," made the whole service meeting a bit surreal.
Can Anyone tell me what that is all about? What recordings? Where can I get them? Why are they forbidding it?
