  what else can I say?

  i got an email from a girl i know who is either teaching or helping teach kindergarten.

  she had questions about a 5 year old boy who is going to homeschool next year, and is a jw.

  she remembered that i am an ex-jw so emailed me to ask for any information that would help her get in the mind of this boy (who seemed to want to celebrate xmas).

  I don't really know much on the subject because although I was homeschooled, I was not raised a JW. I know how isolating homeschooling can be (or homeNOTschooling, as was my case) It must be really really lonely for the JW kids who are not only in a cult, but are kept away from having normal friendships by not even going to school with non-JW kids. That's double bad.

  Your email you wrote to the teacher was really good. I'm sure it helped her to understand better what's going on with the little JW boy. Poor kid.

  The need for "Fellowship"

  it seems to me that a recurring theme for exiting witnesses is not their questions of faith (most have researched mightily before coming here, or had their own crisis of conscience), but the lack of fellowship that will happen if they leave.

  it feels good to be part of a group, to feel wanted and needed.

  the problem arises when that fellowship is not based on you as a person, but by what image you present, or how much you "produce".

  That is a good idea

  I actually thought about working at a place like that...until I thought about the time I used to volunteer at one. I liked it alot, but those areas of the buildings where the very sick ones stay, just can't walk through there without crying for some reason. Maybe when I get my car I'll think about doing that again. It's a really great idea you have

  when you're talking to someone and instead of acknowledging you or whatever you're saying, they just stare.

  For some odd reason, eatting with anyone other than my family and very close friends. If I have to sit around a table with people I don't know all that well and eat a meal, I just about come out of my skin. I avoid it at all costs.

  I also get very very nervous when people give me things for some reason. And I can't stand awkward silences. Sometimes compliments make me nervous.. OK well actually alot of things make me uncomfortable

  My sad news

  as some of you on the board knew i was expecting a baby, i feel i should let you know that things have not worked out for us.. when i went for the 20 week ultrasound scan last thursday, severe problems were found with our baby's internal development.

  only one kidney was detected, and it was very enlarged and polycystic.

  there was no long term hope for the baby at all; if it survived to full term it could only live for hours at most.

  Do you know of any "baptized" JW's that committed suicide or attempted?

  i remember one of my childhood friends was found dead and the police said he committed suicide.

  i just could not believe it because my friend was a "devout" jw almost franatical about it.

  now years later since i have seen both sides of the coin i am beginning to wonder if my friend did indeed kill himself.

  Origen of Biblical Stories

  i have talk to several people about this topic and i was informed that several stories and character were "borrowed" from other cultures such as the perians and babilonians.

  i was informed that the biblical scholars inserted morals into these stories.

  i was given the examples of adam and eve, flood of gilgamesh=flood of noah, the devil/beelzebub of persian origen.

  I always wondered if alot of the stories were meant to be taken as metaphors. Like what redhotchilipepper brought up about Adam and Eve. I think that's one of the things that makes it so hard for me to understand the Bible..and plus everyone talked so different back then. and PLUS it has been translated from one language to others,..

  I almost cannot believe what I just read about this...just when I think people can't get worse. OH MY GOD....It's heartbreaking. Brought me to tears. I always thought that everyone had some good in them. MAYBE NOT. I can't even think of a word that describes this.

  i have been wondering, maybe one of the moderators knows,.

  how does someone start a thread and block certain posters (like ones they'd rather not participate) from responding to a particular thread?.

  or do we just leave ourselves open to any and every post and comment on a sensitive issue once it is started?.

  I would suggest just posting whatever you want to, on whatever subjects, and sort of "screen" the posts in response to it, if that makes any sense. If someone who you think will upset you or whatever replies, just look at the nicknames and dont read their replies. That's all I can think of to help ya, sorry.
