Work In Progress
by MerryMagdalene ini just stumbled over upon an article in the 1 august 2001 watchtower magazine that was just too good to pass up.
i want to use it as the basis for opening up a discussion with my jw mother on the importance of questioning what you believe as well as the right and responsibility each of us has to do so (even jws).
this magazine appears to be giving "permission" as well as strong encouragement to do just this.

exhausted
by MerryMagdalene inthen, not having mailed it yet, i received a letter from my mom, also very loving, encouraging me to return, but telling me she will no longer have contact with me personally.
if i want to drop my daughter (who is only 3) off at her house for unsupervised visits and write letters in my daughter's name to keep her updated, that will be fine.
and she would also like me to bring my girl to the kh.

Why can't I...
by MerryMagdalene in...stop thinking just long enough to read a wtbts publication cover to cover?
ever since i was a kid, it would take me forever to get through a study article or book chapter.
red flags bearing/baring doubts, suspicions, and lots of extra questions were always popping up ( i guess my jw-installed pop-up blocker was non-functional).

Bible Doctrines or Commands of Men
by MerryMagdalene ini was thinking of creating a research resource list based on this bit from the "religion" section of the wts book reasoning from the scriptures:are all religions acceptable to god?
mark 7:6,7: "he [jesus] said to them [the jewish pharisees and scribes]: 'isaiah aptly prophesied about you hypocrites, as it is written, "this people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are removed from me.
it is in vain that they keep worshiping me, because they teach as doctrines commands of men.

Watch Tower Bible & Tract Society: Do They Practice What They Preach?
by MerryMagdalene inin a word--no!
consider the following perversion of justice and threat to civil liberties:.
the watch tower bible & tract society of canada brought suit against the owner/operator of the popular research website quotes.watchtower.ca, seeking to shut down the site, take the domain name for themselves, force the destructions of the files, and pocket $100,000 damages in addition to legal fees, claiming intent to embarrass and to divert traffic from the official watchtower website.

He Said WHAT?!?
by MerryMagdalene inin millions now living will never die, rutherford, 2nd president of the wtbts, had this to say in regard to clergy and religion:
appeal to the clergyit is not my thought to hold up the clergy to ridicule, but rather would i appeal to them that they fulfil their duty and obligation to the people in this hour of distress.
i would remind them that the commission given to all followers of jesus is not to convert the world and bring them into some organized system.

You Too Can Be A Writer for the WTBTS
by MerryMagdalene inbrothers (sisters need not apply), the writing department is looking for a few good, albeit undereducated, writers of excellent theocratic standing to contribute to our monthly publications.
no need to come to bethel.
just keep working half time to support the society, preaching double time to bring in new members, and, in your spare time, you can write for us.

American Radio Commission inquiry & the Russellites
by MerryMagdalene indoes anyone know anything about the american radio commission inquiry mentioned in this article?one thing is certain.
despite its vast income, the society devotes none of its resources to any public works of charity.
challenged at the american radio commission's inquiry, secretary goux, of the russellites, admitted that their new york property alone was worth over a million dollars, and that he could not say how much the general holdings of the corporation were worth.

"Don't Believe Everything You Think"
by MerryMagdalene ini recently saw the above on a bumpersticker and it seemed to express very succinctly something i have been experiencing in seeking out new info for farkel's berta & bonnie thread... i find myself stumbling across intriguing bits and pieces of decades old information and i get to thinking "wouldn't it be amazing if this person was connected in such and such a way with that person?
" and "if this is true then it might mean that..." and on and on.
i get very caught up in investigating and theorizing and, suddenly, the amazing tapestry i have been weaving in my head comes unravelled when one more bit of information comes to light and disproves the whole thing.

What happened?
by MerryMagdalene indon't know if this is the right area to post this or not, but.... does anyone know what happened in 1944 that caused the society to make the following "refinements" to their legal "arrangement," described in the march 15, 1990 watchtower as follows:.
for years, the visible governing body came to be identified with the seven-member board of directors of this corporation....the society's seven directors were faithful christians.
but their role in a legal corporation might have suggested that they owed their positions on the governing body to their being elected by legal members of the watchtower society.
