One of my fondest Seattle convention memories was when I was 19 and got the nerve to slip away from the "festivities" at lunch-time, so tired of being so good and so controlled all the time, and I spent a couple hours eating fish and chips, drinking beer, and watching tv in a pleasant restaurant. It still amazes me that the guilt factor never once kicked in and it was pitifully exhilarating.

Why no going out to lunch at convention??
by Pistoff ini asked the wife today, at the district, what the reasoning was for asking the rank and file to stay in for lunch, and not purchase the lunch elsewhere.
she stated that the reason was that some venues want the witnesses to purchase lunch from their concessions.
anyone else heard this??

Hi everybody! ^^
by Epsilon ini must say that i have been lurking around this place for a good long while.
to know that you are not alone in your quest to escape the watchtower is one of the best ways to actually do it.. right now i'm 18, but became an unbaptized publisher at 12. i blew those elders away with my skill at parroting back the wts doctrine, and for a while, i was faithful enough in service, which i didn't really enjoy, but i had to do it to live, right?
we went to meetings regularly, even thosugh i simply dreaded the boredom and the inevitable guilt i would feel.

Hi, Epsilon!
May I add my WELCOME, too?
Here are some sites you probably already know about but, if not, you might want to check them out:
www.rickross.com/groups/witness.html
and you can find a few WT and Awake articles at the Society's official website: www.watchtower.org/library/
Looking forward to hearing more from you!

I know how it is when you're dealing with difficult family issues-- ah, the games we play and the hoops we find ourselves jumping through for those we love who are still JWs and so rule-bound! But please don't feel like hardly anyone cares. We do! But as for myself, I'm dealing with issues, too, plus weird scheduling turnarounds due to insomnia over what's going on, and so only just got on-line to see what's going on with everybody else. What I am trying to say is "I CARE! HANG IN THERE and KEEP POSTING." You shall be the first recipient of my first attempt at sending an on-line hug...((((((jwbot))))))--Merry

letter from mom/letter to mom
by MerryMagdalene inif anybody feels up to wading through what follows and giving me any feedback on it, i would really appreciate it, but, if not, that's cool too.... letter from mom (9/29/04):.
my dear one,.
i guess you know no one on earth is as dear to me as you.

Thanks, NewSense! I love all these great suggestions! I'll be keeping alot of them in mind just in case my mother actually opens up to discussing in further detail any of the issues I am raising in my initial letter, but I don't want to give her too much all at once. I don't know if she'll write back and make any attempt to "set me straight" on any of this, but here's hoping for an ongoing dialogue!
Wish my mom well in your thoughts, everybody!

Thanks, Ezekiel3. Yes, my mom's letter was a bit hard to read and it did tug those strings you mentioned. I got all shakey and tearful. And I do worry about pushing the wrong buttons and making those protective walls slam securely in place, but I think maybe they're already there and there's no way around them anyway.
I am very much just trying to explain to my mother why I feel I have good reason for not allowing my daughter to be introduced to and taught JW religion, but it makes me sick to think all I might be doing is "twisting the knife" when that's the last thing I want to do. Do you think I went overboard? Should I cut a bunch more out and, if so, what should I leave in as an explanation of my decision?
I am so grateful for the feedback I am getting from those who have been through this or much of a similar nature.
Now I think I'd best make my way to a humorous thread where I can be cleansed by laughing til I cry...
