I believe that most of the health problems in the Borg are psychosomatic. They need to have something that will pay off for the miserable lives they lead, and being healed from various ailments is one way to justify it.

When will people "stop" relying on "churches and religions" for happiness?
by booker-t init just breaks my heart when i read some of the posts on this websites and hear all of the horror stories about people and families suffering because of what the church or religion did to them.
not just jw's or mormons, but catholics, born-agains are also included in this group.
i bet you could find just as many disgruntle ex-catholics and ex-born-agains out in the world who have been severly hurt by their church.

Is your self-esteem so low that one negative comment about your use of drugs causes you to interject it into every conversation I am involved in?
Again, it's your double standard... Cannabis is a drug?... but drinking a cuba libra is ok?... Sorry but alchohol is a drug also...It is my personal opinion that pot smokers are losers.
I've known way more dis-functional alcholics than cannabis users...
So I am to assume that if a musician is a known "drug user"(Elvis, Willie Nelson, Ray Charles, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrixs, etc...) you cannot enjoy their music cause they are losers?
Canabis-illegal, one drink-legal. Keep on trying. Besides, the one drink I had at a movie was the first drink I had had in nearly 6 months ( I drank a beer while whatching the USC-Texas game at a local restaurant). Prior to that, one glass of wine while at dinner with my wife for her birthday in December. Prior to that? I can't remember. So quit trying to use me to justify your choices in life.I also know a number of former addicts that all state that marijuana was the gateway drug that led them to harder drugs. What's your point?
Yes, I think they are losers. That is my personal opinion. Now, I have said my piece on this matter, which has absolutely NOTHING to do with the thread at hand. If you wish to continue start a new thread, PM me, or leave it alone.
My discussion with you on this mater is now closed.

Insane religious banter!
by free2beme in"he will kill the wicked" ... "jesus is coming to bring down the unrighteous" ... "you shall know his wrath" .... "you will burn in hell!".
my father had a renter in one of his houses, who was a whacked out christian.
when she moved out, she wrote these kinds of things all over the walls and we had to repaint the entire house to get it cleaned up.

You mean like the ;person who condemns me for stocking translations of the Bible other than the Authorised King James (with the letter from the Reformers in the front or it's not a proper King James Bible!!).
I love showing King James only people the history of the Geneva Bible, and how that Bible was the official bible of the Puritans and English Reformers. I also point out that good King Jimmy liked his boys young.

OFG,You seem to be unable to let this go. Why are you obsessing over this one statement? Are you that starved for acceptance? Is your self-esteem so low that one negative comment about your use of drugs causes you to interject it into every conversation I am involved in?
Obviously I hit a nerve. It is my personal opinion that pot smokers are losers. If you can't deal with it then too bad for you. Here's an idea: Get over it already. Obviously you can't tolerate people that have a negative viewpoint of your choices.
So pot meet kettle.

Freetosee,
I fail to see why you are harping on me for being blunt and direct in my questions. If my style turns you off then you have a choice to either ignore the entire thread or my posts. I have simply responded in kind to many of the responses I have seen others post here. I don't recall you harping on the atheist/agnostic/skeptics for their harshness. If you have, then I will stand corrected upon production of the evidence.
I believe that your issue may be that you don't think it is right for a Christian to stand up and say enough is enough.

Don't think I'm against a person believing in Jesus and prayer, my wife does this and is a good person, but I have seen things happen that she believes was an answer to prayer, as an example her daughter had a growth in her breast and she prayed for her and when she went back to the doctor it was gone, but why doesn't it work now, she has another growth and it isn't going away? Why doesn't God listen now?
Ken,
First, let me say that I am trully sorry for this developement with your step-daughter(?). I don't know why God choses to heal at times and doesn't at other times.
I guess that if miracles were commonplace then they would cease to be miracles.

He also makes the tornadoes, hurricanes, volcanos, earthquakes etc fall on the righteous and unrighteous so we all get his anger as well as his grace, that is if he is doing anything here on earth.
Yes, and His grace is shown when millions of dollars from Christians and generally benevolant folks are funneled to the victims of those disasters. After the Southeast Asian trunamis on Boxing Day two years ago, I heard a Jewish Rabbi say that God's hand was more apparent in the relief efforts than in the disaster that precipitated those efforts.

How many christains here believe God is going to roast us unbelievers in a hell fire for eternity? I know many that do. That really turns me off to their God and worship.
I am probably in the minority (however, I am still within the orthodox framework) on this, but I do not believe that hell is a place of eternal torment through fire. The bible uses figurative language when it speaks of hell. It is describe as a place of eternal fire, but also utter darkness. Seems to me that this is a contradiction, if taken literally. Therefore, I look at terms like eternal fire & utter darkness as an analogy to communicate what total seperation from God might be like (since no one has been there and returned to tell about it).
Another way to explain hell might be that while on earth all humans are recipients of God's common grace, eg, he makes it rain on the righteous & unrighteuous, the sun rises & sets, etc. Hell is total removal from God's grace, total seperation from God. Basically, He is giving unregenerate humanity exactly what they want, an atheistic eternity. After all we would God want to populate heaven with people that have given Him the finger?
What is more, since heaven has degrees of reward, I think it follows that hell would have degrees punishment. I don't think a garden variety pagan will be punished the same as Hitler, Mao, Stalin, Pot, etc. So I really don't get your turn off.
Why would Jesus allow his followers to teach that?
Umm, I don't know? Maybe, because he taught it?
How can you tell a TRUE christain from a FALSE christain believer?
I don't know. Jesus reffered to this dilemma when he spoke about the wheat and the tares. He said the the wheat would not be know until the day of harvest. By implication a false and a true Christian could stand side by side until the final judgement. The issue at hand is not being able to tell a true Christian from a false one, but are you a true Christian or a false one. -

I think booker-t’s thread was not meant to start a Christian vs. non-Christian debate. I get the impression you are forcing this into a debate of that nature. I have read some Christian posters in the past complaining about atheists jumping in and starting heated debates, but this surly goes both ways. There is nothing wrong in debating this issue, many threads and posters do, so there is lots of opportunity to do so on other threads.
No, you are incorrect. Booker made some strong and blunt statements, and I simple responded in kind. Sadly, it appears that there are some posters that don't like that from Christians. I guess we should just know our place, cast our eyes downward, and never get into the fray. It was not my intention to start a row, and then leave it, and I certainly have not done that. I will defend my views, and I will do so directly and bluntly. If that offends people then so be it, but I am not going sit by and allow people to make logiacally inconsistent statements with point it aout and calling them to task for it.
You saying “Think before you answer!” reminds me more of a warning or threat than an encouragement. It is surly not the usual end-line I have been reading so far. Or is it an implication that I was not thoughtful in my posting. I can’t help but feel when reading your posting on this thread that you are overreacting to comments not completely in line with your thinking, that you are easily offended when it comes to your faith in Jesus. I don’t believe in Jesus or the bible, however if you find happiness in your faith I am happy for you and any xjw who finally experience “real” Christian life.
First, you have misquoted me. I did not use an exclamion point. I mdae a declarative. Therefore the rest of wht you wrote was you projecting your emotions on to what I wrote. I wanted you to think about what you were going to type.
Secondly you presume far too much. You are again incorrect in your assumption that I am easily offended in my Chrisitianty. I lurked for quite a while before I posted on this board. I have had numerous opportunities to make statements, but I chose not to. So I am not quite as "easily offended" as you "feel."
Whether or not you believe in Jesus or the Bible is between you and God. All I am here to do is talk about a common bond that we all have. That is being a JW. But what I don't think is right is the constant belittling and berate by the atheists, agnostics & skeptics on this board. The hypocrisy of such, especially when it comes to proselytizing their humanist gospel. So no I don't think that I am easlily offended. I think I have a pretty thick skin. After all I have been put through my paces in the real world. In the real world I have been called every vile term that you could possibly think of just because I have the audacity to preach what I believe, and to also live out what I believe. Either way it's all well and good, and it's getting late.
